LA Times: Maggette-for-Artest Deal Close
Jason Reid of the Los Angeles Times reports that a Corey Maggette for Ron Artest swap is imminent:
At this point, there's no way a deal could go down and either player could compete by Friday, so I wouldn't imagine there are any restrictions time-wise. Actually, it might be efficient for everyone involved if the swap happened Friday, so Maggette could just join the Kings on their return trip from Staples. Either way, it's not like Los Angeles is that far from Sacramento.
My fingers are tightly crossed - I have tickets for Saturday's Warriors game, and I'd love to see Maggette's Sactown debut.
In any case, it looks like this is going to happen. The LA Times does not just repeatedly print rumors for the hell of it.

Putting on my reality hat, I can't help but feel that this has happened amazingly fast. Two weeks ago, we may have been frustrated with Ron-Ron's shooting percentage and me-first play, but not called for his ouster. But when "stuff" rolls downhill, it accumulates in mass and speed!

You don't want that timebomb on your roster when the fuse is burning fast.

Im glad were looking to get rid of him soon so that we can get something decent in return.

Does anyone know whether multiple players might be involved as was previously rumored?

Re: LA Times: Maggette-for-Artest Deal Close
We need to solidfy our back-up small forward position, our back up point guard position, and our back-up center position.
If Bibby refuses to sit he needs to be traded. The only thing wrong with him this year is that he's clearly injured and it's slowing him down. He looked great in some of the preseason games and now you can tell he's struggling because of the bumps he took in both Utah games. He needs to sit and get healthy; whether it costs a bunch of games or not.
If he refuses to do so, tell him he has two options: 1) Be traded or 2) He can opt out after this year. Mike wants to help this team win but right now he CLEARLY is a liability out on the court.
The bottom line is we have options. I believe the Kings can fully turn this thing around with the right moves. I would prefer to keep Bibby (unless we're landing a superstar) because when he's on, he's on and he's clutch. But he needs to get healthy before that can happen.
Tell him to sit a few games and let Salmons hold down the fort. I honestly believe John can be our starting point guard and do a better job than Bibby can for us right now. John can play defense (he has done a great job guarding the other points this year, and limiting them to an extent) and can clearly create. He's a versatile player and honestly, in my opinion, we got a steal in free agency.
Bibby needs to sit for awhile whether it costs us games or not. We all want the Kings to win, but we also want Mike to be here for the long term if he's going to be part of our core.
Get Corey, get Mike healthy, get a good pick in the draft next year from the Clippers and use ours as well to strengthen our weaknesses. There isn't a reason that once our team develops some chemistry again and we get our problems on offense sorted out that we can't be a good to great team again in no time.
