Game -5/82 vs Utah, Open Game Thread

With the exception of the Lakers, the Kings and the Jazz have had more memorable postseason matchups than any other Sacramento opponent in recent memory. With that said, this is hardly the postseason. It's preseason, kids.

And while the Kings work out their kinks, we at STR are doing the same. What? Did you expect a game thread at tipoff?

Utah 31, Kings 25 after 1 quarter. Consider this an Open 3/4 Game Thread.

Your early Kings leaders:

Martin 8 points on 3-6 shooting
Salmons 6 points on 3-3 shooting, with an assist.

The Kings have been outboarded 14-7, and out-assisted 9-5. Those should change if we want to close the gap.

Re: Game -5/82 vs Utah, Open Game Thread
Greene has got to get the nod at back-up PG.  The guy is an outstanding defender.  Can't say much about his "O" at this point.  But if he can handle the ball competently and play the kind of monster defense I've seen him play in the pre-seaon, I'll be happy.  He looks big and strong enough to guard the 1 and the 2.

He reminds me of a young Randy Brown. I like him a lot.

Re: Game -5/82 vs Utah, Open Game Thread
I definitely agree.  Green shows he has command of the floor when running the point.  The guy made some excellent passes and showed he can make things happen.  Douby struggles at PG although he can shoot better and score.  It's funny I always see Reggie correcting Douby and shaking his head after he screws up.  I don't know if Douby can ever be successfully molded into a good PG.

Kings are on a tear in Q2.

They finish the half UP on the Jazz, by a 53-48 margin. They sensed the open game thread!

Martin has 13, Miller 10, and Salmons 9 to pace the Kings.

5 points, 4 boards, 3 turnovers, 2 steals, 1 assist.

I guess that's symmetrical.

Re: Game -5/82 vs Utah, Open Game Thread
His numbers didn't tell the story; his energy was excellent and contagious.  And his defense was very good.

I gotta tell you, though, he has to do something about his turnovers. And, he has at least one a game that is just bad that I just look at the TV with a dumbfounded look on my face going "WHAT JUST HAPPENED?"

Preseason... my favorite time of the year. Don't have to go bumming when the team loses or wins. \

But still can't wait for the intensity to pick up once the regular season comes.

No 3rd quarter fade this year. I refuse to accept it.

Kings holding a 13-12 margin in the 3rd, 66-60 overall.

I'm watching the lakers-sonics game on TNT. Listening to Doug Collins is extremely un-inviting.

Kings up 88-74.

I want to point out the Kings are up 63-43 since we opened this thread. Coincidence? I think not.

If somebody (other than Mike Bibby) could teach Orien Greene how to shoot we'd have one helluva ballplayer.

Bibby's shot is looking ug-lee.

Re: Game -5/82 vs Utah, Open Game Thread
I think Bibby is giving his all on defense and doesn't quite have his legs on the offensive end just yet. As long as he hits the big shots in the fourth when the game is on the line, I am ok with him.
