point guards

With Bibby out, and all this talk about needing a pass first/traditional point/offense initiating/distributor, what about Jared Jordan. He was released from the Knicks after having a couple of good games in their camp. I think he led the NCAA in assists the last two years. He's been tabbed as a defensive liability, but the Kings are used to that! Being a rookie, he may not be the full-time, permanent solution for the point this year but if he's available, inexpensive, and can backup (Douby?Garcia?Greene?please not Salmons!) why not give him a chance in this league. Maybe he'll develop into a NBA assist leader.

The Kings need a stat leader on this team! Artest is amazing with his 2.1 steals. But rebounds - 6.5(by Artest..small foward!), assists - 4.7(Bibby), and worst of all blocks - 0.6(Miller). Pathetic!

Re: point guards
Please allow a follow up.
I'm not sure how the rookie contracts and salaries work so maybe someone will comment on what it would even take to pick up a waived rookie.

Also, I know some will argue that the Kings need a GP, Boykins, Lue, Francis, etc...but I think any veteran who the Kings could get may be a retread for a reason. They may not be much worse than Bibby with his limitations, but unless Petrie swings a miracle(a young point who figures into our future) in a trade or FA signing, I'd rather see Bibby's minutes go to the young guys who need experience. Having a young assist specialist ready and willing to learn and grow could turn out to be a find.

Jared Jordan
Jared was the Clippers second round pick.  The Clippers traded him to the Knicks who then cut him. He was one of the top point guards at the Vegas Summer League, and led the league in assist to turnover ratio.  He is a classic, pass first point guard.

The knock is that he is not athletic enough and will be a defensive liability.  Of course that's exactly what they said about Steve Nash.

I think Jared would be a great longer term investment.  He's not going to make a big difference for the 10 weeks that Bibby is out.

Re: Jared Jordan
Why did the Clippers cut him is my question?

Also I don't think the Kings need Jordan either. They're better off evaluating what they have at this point and moving forward.

Re: point guards
That's stupid. You want the Kings to literally scrape the bottom of the barrel of our salary cap and pay ANOTHER project PG to be on the roster. Guess what? We already have Orien Greene, Mustafa Shakur and likely Quincy Douby in that grouping. We have no shot at playoffs or be anywhere near .500, but at least be entertaining. EARL BOYKINS is the temporary solution. Little fella can score, can create, and is lightning quick. The Kings are missing in all three categories.

Re: point guards
You may be right. Another project PG may not be the answer. I think that idea was just a reaction to the news of losing Bibby, even for only 8-10 wks.

But follow me here. I thought since Bibby has been 'declining' the last couple years and his name has been in as many trade rumors as anyone, the Kings would be looking to fill his spot with young talent. I thought they had a chance in the draft and should've selected Acie Law. It was good to read in the Sac Bee that they considered Aaron Brooks with a second draft pick if they got one (a relatively high one), but I thought if they didn't pick Acie and took a big man (Hawes, whose knees are now questionable on top of Bibby's now questionable thumb) maybe they could get a second round pick and get a young prospect PG. Jared Jordan? I know many consider Douby to be our young PG but i think he's to much of a project for a starting floor general. Orien Green, come on. I think he's played great but no one was throwing his name around to be Bibby's full-time successor. I just thought this Jordan kid could've come in, played behind Bibby or whoever, and developed into a good starting traditional/pass first PG. Maybe not, but like ClipperSteve said, no one thought Steve Nash - a slower, not as atheletic, defensive liability, PASS FIRST PG would make it in the league. Where was he picked in the draft I wonder? But you never know. I just think the uncanny ability and desire to make effective passes is something every team could use. I want a double digit assist/rebounder for the Kings! Now that Bibby's out for a while it just brought back the feeling of urgency to replace him with a young, promising POINT GUARD.

If we get Earl Boykins and he can score, create, and out quick opponents for a 8/10 months or a year I'm all for that. I'm just anxious for our future PG & PF to get in there and start the glorious uprising.

By the way, it seems foolish to think (like some comments I've seen) that if the Kings suck enough, they'll just get say..Derrick Rose next year. What are the chances? Even if we did, would he start immeadiately, or be 'brought along slowly' AAARGH!@#$ behind ???Bibby.
