Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Ailene Voisin

Ailene Voisin is the worst sports writer I have ever come across. I was talking with Mike Bibby the other day and I told him about something she quoted him on in the paper and he said that everyone on the team as well as the organization tries to avoid her because she always twists everyone's words and quotes them as saying things that they've never even said. Bibby said she is even known to make up interviews based on information that she heard from someone else. Wow. So I have stopped reading her articles. They are garbage.

Star-divide

I couldn't reply to anymore of the posts so I had to extend the original diary. Here is what Bibby and other players have said about Voisin: They said that what happens is that she will overhear conversations between a player and another reporter or Petrie and another reporter or between a player and another player and then she will report them as if she had been interviewing them. And I'm sure that the other reporters are aware of this. The players obviously are. They said they all avoid her as much as possible. So, I'm just reporting what they tell me/my father. I'm not here to say why she does it. I have no idea.

Re: Ailene Voisin
Before someone questions the legitimacy of your experience. When were you back home from Utah to talk with Mike? How did you have the opportunity to speak with him?

Re: Ailene Voisin
It's funny how shocked we get when Aileen pens a decent column. She's got plenty of company at that birdcage liner of a paper though - Marty Mac isn't much better.  Only Amick is worth a damn out of that group.

Re: Ailene Voisin
Thanks for asking cdoggy1. I've been home in California for a few days now and had the chance to talk to Bibby because he needed to see my dad about him making Bibby a wrist protector because he wants to come back earlier than expected. So he came to our shop to talk to him which is when I asked him about the article.

Re: Ailene Voisin
First rate information OB, we do a lot of speculation on this site, it's unusual to have such interesting tidbits come directly from a Kings player to a member.

Re: Ailene Voisin
Interesting.  You think Mike Bibby speaks unguardedly, or truthfully, to random folks/fans?

Again, interesting.

-Not an Aileen fan either, but suspicious of the validity/honesty of this conversation.  Not on your part, OB.

But I'll continue to read her articles and weigh them against the equally crap Kings PR articles posted on the Kings blog.

Doesn't anyone else find the newly accessible and smiley Mike Bibby kind of creepy after his years of inaccesible Mike Bibby kind of disturbing?

Not a shot at his ability as a player but, after years of no access, seeing this dude play smiley in interviews and new commercials disturbs me.   My guess is the Maloofs' are newly dictatorial re: community involvment.

Re: Ailene Voisin
For the record, I don't care if Bibby, Miller, or Petrie talk to the media, as long as they are winning games.

I just find it kind of weird that they've all picked this year to start talking.

Re: Ailene Voisin
KK, I'm a bit confused about what you have to say.

Interesting.  You think Mike Bibby speaks unguardedly, or truthfully, to random folks/fans?

Well apparently OB does, because he recorded this as first hand interaction. You can call him a liar if you like. But if he had said... "My friend talked to Mike Bibby and said..." Then your response would be a perfect fit. But your asking a person who supposedly talked with Mike Bibby personally whether or not Mike Bibby actually said something he should believe. Why shouldn't he believe what Bibby says to him personally? If you don't want to believe that this conversation ever took place to begin with then say so. Please don't hide behind some contentious comment. You pretend like you don't believe Mike Bibby didn't mean what he said. And there isn't much reason to believe that his comments would be sarcastic in nature. He is the Black Larry David. Generally Larry David gets himself in trouble a lot. But he means what he says. And unless you have proof that Mike Bibby randomly engages random people with anti-voisin conversations, then it's reasonable to believe that A.) OB is not a random person. B.) that Voisin's many critics extend to the King's players.
Furthermore, if your suspicious of the validity/honesty of this conversation, then how are you not questioning OB's part? Like I said earlier, don't be a pussy. Say what you've got to say. You can't question the validity of the conversation being reported from ONLY ONE PERSON, without directly questioning the person reporting it.
If it's a matter of credibility you need, then maybe you need to remember that TZ posted Mike Bibby's summer camp announcement from OB on behalf of Mike Bibby. Or that I have personally seen pictures of Mike Bibby at his house in Loomis.
I can personally tell you that I knew that Ron Artest's Jersey number would be 93 in excess of 5 days before the trade of Jan. 25th because of OB. If you doubt him or I thats cool... just don't act like something in his story doesn't add up. We understand your being a skeptic, but you should understand that the way you question it is vaginal in nature.

Re: Ailene Voisin
Wow cdoggy1, you really took it to KK. And I agree with every word of it. If anyone would like to know, I had a lovely night last night. We had to deliver some emergency jerseys to the Kings, so my father and I went to the game. We were supplied with VIP passes as always, and had fun roaming the undergrounds of the arena before, during, and after the game. We chatted with Bibby again a little bit. I swear the diamonds in his ears are at least 3 carats. And again, if anyone would like to know, I asked him about his hand and he said its feeling good and that he still plans to come back a little earlier than expected. On another note, the Voisin article in question discusses how Petrie said his target time is the summer of '09 or even '10. Has Petrie ever been known to be the kind of guy who waits?! Have the Maloofs?! That to me discredits the entire Voisin interview by itself.

Re: Ailene Voisin
You certainly got your hackles up over what seemed to be a pretty innocuous remark. This is the internet after all, where the bullshit to truthtelling ratio is about 5 zillion to one.

Most likely, KK didn't know about or didn't participate in OB's original diary. If it were me, I'd be suspicious as well.

Nothing really to get worked up about IMO.

Re: Ailene Voisin
I believe that argument extends to pretty much anything regarding the Kings, outside of what moves Petrie COULD make.

Re: Ailene Voisin
You have every reason to question this info. My hackles aren't up, I just won't tolerate someone faking their position on this info. Take it at face value (a rumor) or take it as potential information.
Lets say that sactownroyalty finds a member that has consistent inside info to the Kings players similar to what we saw regarding Spencer Hawes as of a month ago. Should we embrace this person's pontential knowledge? I say yes, I know that Mr. OB is personally connected with the Kings, just don't hate because your not the one presenting the info. Each and every one of these players are real people. They also talk to real people. On top of that, OB is the most aggressively outgoing person I know. At a Kings game he once told Jeff Garcia (of the 49ers) to step it up because he was on his fantasy team, and told Terrell Owens to take easy (because he was on my team), needless to say, both players weren't sitting together.

Re: Ailene Voisin
I don't disagree...my point is that maybe KK doesn't know these things.  OB is not exactly a regular - he/she pops in on a very occasional basis.

And you lit into KK pretty hard over it.

If I hadn't read OB's previous entries, I probably would have thought the same thing KK did, that's all.

Re: Ailene Voisin
Otis ,given that "most" of us don't take her articles seriously to begin with, arguing over whether Mike Bibby seems sorta moot. (Btw your statement is why I never said anything, that and I've ranted about her before.)

Re: Ailene Voisin
Thanks, Otis.  You pretty much read my mind.

My intent wasn't to incite either CD or OB and I wasn't questioning OB's truthfulness (as noted in my original reply).  So, my apologies to whomever was offended by my post.  I have not seen OB's original diary so I will go do some searching around.  I have (as of five minutes ago) read his profile blurb so I have a little better understanding of where he's coming from.

Once again, my apologies to OB and CD.

Re: Ailene Voisin
let's take this a different direction:

Why is Voisin untruthfull?

I really don't see what's in it for her if access to the organisation is denied to her because of hyberbolic ramblings. That seems kinda...stupid.

& I have to say something to cdoggy about the "vagina" comment....I take it you're a dude, cool & all that...but I get disconcerted as a chick to have "whussiness" automatically equated with having a vagina.Soem of us are pretty tough dudes. Even if we're pretty.

Re: Ailene Voisin
to KK: I was never mad at you.

to everyone else on StR: I will do my best to post more often, and make myself and my opinions better known, to therefore enhance my visibility and credibility. I assure you that as I have stated in my profile I and my family have a close relationship with the Kings organization. And if I say something that's "inside information", you can take is as fact, because I will only write it if I or my father was a personal witness to the situation.

to Rhondda: Why would Voisin have motive to be untruthful? She's a writer. And she wants more coverage and readers.

by Original Ballboy on Nov 27, 2007 12:32 PM PST reply actions

Re: Ailene Voisin
Voisin is not untruthful. She is just (in my opinion) not a very good or informative writer. That puts her in the majority at The Bee. Sam Amick is in the minority, perhaps a group of one.

Well...you tell me.
It seems if she's written things that are untrue; she should be called on the carpet. I did read you right in that she misquoted Mike Bibby right?& that she's twisted/redacted/altered quotes about the organisation to her own convenience, right?if that's true, she probably has an axe to grind. & i doubt that the axe is labeled either 'truth' or 'in Petie we trust'. Not that I read the Bee all that much anymore, so I don't really care, personally.

Here's another thought...
Maybe Ailene is uninformed about her opinions abought the Kings because the organisation & it's players keep her at arm's length. It seems that Sam Amick gets more access in the locker room, that kinda says the trust threshold is higher for him than with Voisin....just a hypothesis.

Who reads Sacramento Magazine anyway?! And regardless of that, I don't even care. I doubt they know she isn't credible, and that she passes off conversations she overhears as personal interviews that she had. I didn't even know until Bibby told me a couple weeks ago.
