Short but sweet

I keep thinking about it and thinking about it and I really haven't gotten anywhere so I submit my question to the Royalty? Why would the Kings want Ben Gordon? I realize he can, at times, be a phenomenal player but we already have a 2 gaurd. If the three team deal between the Lakers and Bulls was really close to being done, what was GP thinking? It couldn't have been as close to a done deal as the media says, right? If so I am still astounded, even if it is not a reality at this point. GP couldn't have wanted that deal could he?? Could he???

Re: Short but sweet
The Gordon deal was based on Ric Bucher comments. I don't think there was any validity to this rumor. I think Bucher got scooped and made up the players in the trade to cover his ass. The Lakers would never take on Ben Wallace's contract and Artest for Kobe. It's going to cost the Bulls young talent, probably 3 young players but after the Bulls failed to lock up Deng or Gordon they made this whole trade a little shaky.

I wouldn't doubt that his trade is revisited in the next week or so especially when Ron -Ron is off suspension. I hope the Kings are involved but they better get a young power forward in the deal and some cap space. Petrie isn't an idiot so let's see how this all plays out.

We are slipping into the NBA abyss.

Re: Short but sweet
There were a couple of things about that rumor(s) that did not add up.One version had the Lakers getting B. Wallace and Artest. If you were the Lakers would you accept that for Kobe? The other version had them getting Artest and Hinrich? Would you accept that for Kobe? One version had us getting B. Wallace and B. Gordon? Would we really take on Wallace's contract? The other version had us getting P.J. Brown and B. Gordon, in which case the Bulls would put themselves in luxury tax land by signing Brown, and Brown would come out of his present retirement to play for the likes ofthe present Kings. To top it off, it has been noted that Gordon is looking for bigger money than Kevin Martin. If there was any validity to this trade at all it had to be with the idea that Gordon would be shipped later for true needs, as he is really more of a two guard than a point guard (think of a Mike Bibby that never passes). These trades only made sense for the Bulls and Kobe Bryant, and they made sense to only Ric Bucher. They died down pretty quickly, too. Perhaps because everyone considered the source. ESPN, you worldwide leader for unsubstantiated gossip.

Re: Short but sweet
The Lakers are really hosed on this deal, and I wouldn't be surprised if they end up either keeping Kobe (probably unlikely) or having  to take a weak group in return (more likely).

The two problems are Kobe's opt-out and no-trade clause. Teams acquiring Kobe are playing russian roulette on keeping him, and if the Lakers do find decent trade value for Kobe (which includes Deng in the Chicago deal), Kobe's going to probably exercise his no-trade.

Paxson does not want to give up three or four good young players and have Kobe opt out at the end of next season. And Kobe currently will not approve anything with Deng included.

Kobe is a big enough jackass to shut his trap and play with LA until he opts out, and go to Chicago anyways. Thing is, his desire to find the greener pastures will probably override his jackassedness.

My guess is this deal gets resurrected, probably closer to the deadline - Lakers get Artest and two of Chicago's young talent (Thomas and Hinrich?). The Kings get Gordon & PJ Brown. Chicago ends up with Kobe-bean and ends up the favorites in the East. And Bucher gets to run Kobe's errands in a new city!  Win-win-win-win!!

Re: Short but sweet
Chicago won't be an option when Kobe can opt out. With the contracts of Hinrich, Noccioni and Wallace, the deals that Deng and Gordon are going to sign and then having to pay Thomas, there is no way the Bulls can be players in free-agency unless they do a sign in trade in which case they should just do now and get it over with.

Re: Short but sweet
Like jj, I don't buy Bucher knew what players precisely were involved. Hinrich makes sense for Sacramento but not L.A., Wallace doesn't make sense anywhere but alongside Kobe, even Artest makes little sense in L.A. without Kobe. Someone mentioned Bibby's name, but I think there's no way he gets traded in his current condition.

Re: Short but sweet
A shame we can't deal Bibby for Hinrich straight up (a trade the Bulls might pull the trigger on if this was early 2006 rather than early 2007).  As a big Roy Williams-era Jayhawks fan, I got a lot of <3 for Hinrich.

Re: Short but sweet
The irony of Wallace playing alongside Artest is enough for me to know these rumors are a complete, f-ing, joke.

Re: Short but sweet
