Inside-ish info from Bibby's Mix 'N' Bowl last night

various pieces of info:

Webber was there (he was MC-ing the charity auction) and gave my dad a gift card to his restaurant.

Miller, Garcia, and Beno weren't there. But everyone else was.

Kenny Thomas bowled a 196, the top score of the players. Artest was not good and he told everyone he was not going to be good.

It seemed like Hawes didn't really have any friends on the time. He was a little awkward. The highlight being when he was introduced to a girl who works for my dad named Kara, who is 19. They had a really awkward hug, during which her head entered his armpit a little bit. Awesome.

Hawes was similarly solo on media day. Justin and Darryl aren't much older, come on dudes! Let the lotto pick join the club!

Or he could be a 19 year old kid, who has lived in the NW his entire (short) life, living in a new city and whose only connections are to the Kings.  When has he had time to make a lot of friends aside from those in the Kings organization. Frankly, I am amazed at the ill-will displayed toward this guy at this site. Be interesting if the sentiment continues when he's puttting up 20/10/5 in a couple of years.

In every interview this kid has he is engaging, thoughtful, funny, and interesting. Frankly, he's atypical of the average NBA player, who often speaks in cliches - when not mangling the English language - and has little knowledge of the larger world surrounding him.

Very few athletes have awareness outside their world. Hawes just speaks English well enough to perhaps fool some.

I don't know, I think most folks here have come around on him. I have.

oh and one more thing: My dad asked Webber if he was gonna play for the Kings this year. He said "I really want to but I don't know if its gonna happen. We'll see." He said he's staying in shape and is ready to come back and play.

Not to be a complete prick (oh well I'm guess im screwed on that one) but Webber won't help this team with what it needs most: Physical play and rebounding.

Not to be a complete prick (I know im screwed on that one, and from here on out I will not use the word prick it may be offensive to some guys), but yes you are completely absolutely right pookey, I thought Weber's weaknesses went without saying.

oh and I agree with you TZ. Last time I went to a game I felt a little bad for him. It seems as though he wants to be in the mix with the guys, but that he is still perhaps emerging from his awkward stage. I dont know. At least he is making way more money than I am.

Hey, when I was 19, I was way awkward in social environments. Wait, I'm 26 and I'm way awkward in social environments! There might be no hope. (For Hawes.)

Re: Inside-ish info from Bibby's Mix 'N' Bowl
That's weird cuz the last last two games I went to, it seemed like he and Brad had really started to bond.  I'm probably wrong.

Heh, he's a rook so nobody's really going to act strongly in his favor, right?  Either way, I really thought Brad took him under his wing. Maybe I'm just full of crap.  I AM usually wrong.

But, I don't have your access. So, you really think Spencer is totally alienated from his teamates?  Or did I misread your post?   Did I mention that my hypotheses are usually wrong?  : )

God bless you, Corliss. You always played as though you knew how expensive my tickets were. -section214
