Artest Might Return Sunday
According to Sam Amick in The Bee, Ron Artest was at the Kings practice facility in the wee hours of Friday morning, and he could be back with the team as soon as Sunday against Denver.
Geoff Petrie was noncommittal in his stance. Amick seems to have other sources who say Sunday is a real possibility, or possibly Petrie is saying that to him without wanting to be quoted.
I'm not opposed to Ron coming back if that's what his teammates and the coaching staff want. But it would've smarter to keep his return under wraps until the upcoming road trip. Why risk a huge backlash at home for a national game?
If Ron practices with the team today or it's otherwise released that he'll play Sunday, expect The Bee's columnists and Sacramento's TV stations to spontaneously combust tomorrow morning.

Re: Artest Might Return Sunday
The Bee has not been overly supportive of the Kings anyway. Many of the reporters and columnists have written stories which have been detrimental to the Kings' image.
I frequently read the "comments" section (http://www.sacbee.com/sports/)following Bee stories and it appears that an overwhelming majority of the messages are in opposition to anything and everything relating to the Kings. This is not a new trend--something which has been going on for at least a year.
I suspect that Artest has pursued legal advice regarding his right to return to work. Kings' officials may not have a voice in the matter. I think Ron's reinstatement is imminent.

Re: Artest Might Return Sunday
Lets quickly examine what a police report is. Very simply it is a report filed by someone who wasn't there, based on the information given to them by the person filing the complaint, who, hopefully, was there. The police are not supposed to come to any conclusions, that is what the courts are for. The police have a responsibility to ensure that the incident does not escalate.
"Just the facts, ma'am", sounds way cooler than, "let us hear your side of the story".
Domestic violence is one of the most over used, and misused charges. Which is sad, because there is no penalty for a woman who alleges violence just for the sake of custody or financial gain. Not only that, it detracts from the seriousness of violent crime, and people who really do abuse and injure others.
I have heard the 911 call, she rolled off complaints like she was reading a menu. He's stealing my car, No, I cant use that, Ok I am a victim of violence, oh yeah, he hit me. I am bleeding but I don't want medical attention.
The kicker for me was when she laughed. It wasn't a big guffaw, but it was a laugh. If you are abused, to the point where you call 911, you can't tell me that it is a laughing matter. I won't call her names, but I do not find her story believable.
We have a responsibility as a society to point out B.S when we see it, and not allow abuse of the system to take place. I am more than willing to treat Ron as if this never happened, because as far as I know, and can tell, it didn't happen the way it has been reported.

Re: Artest Might Return Sunday
If I'm not mistaken Ron's wife will have to testify against him for any of the charges to stick anyway
I think you may be mistaken. There are numerous instances where there has been prosecution of men for DV, without the cooperation of the "victim". The reason for this is the intimidation factor. Some women fear (and rightly so) that if they testify against someone, they will be in danger when all is said and done.
So in order to ensure the safety of the "victim" the DA has the option of pursuing the charges based on the police report. This will probably result in anger management classes, a fine, and a misdemeanor criminal conviction as the typical plea is no contest (which is based on latin nolo contende, which really means that you are not contesting the charges, which is actually looked upon by the courts as an admission of sorts). It is just a chickenshit way of having someone admit to a crime that he/she may have been a party to for the sake of saving time and hassle. The reputation is that the courts are more lenient to a no contest plea, than a guilty. Quick, tidy, court gets its money, criminal gets punished, attorneys get paid, yadda yadda yadda.
In Rons case, (I think) he is going to spend a lot of money in order for justice to prevail (no charges, complaint dropped). Fortunately for Ron, he has the money.
