The Best Game of Kevin Martin's Career

Kevin Martin: 1-8 FG, 1-4 3P, 17-20 FT, 20 pts

The guy made one basket and scored 20 points.

One basket. 20 points.

His shot has been off the last week, and he's still keeping the Kings in this thing.

He's figuring out his game. His shot will come back. When it does, prepare for doom.

Dwyane who?!

Re: The Best Game of Kevin Martin's Career
Nice game from K-Mart. By drawing those fouls, K-Mart was able to limit Orlando's running game because it forced the clock to stop.

Remember Orlando scored 52 points in the first half. K-Mart drew most of his fouls in the 2nd half like the rest of the team.

There's a reason why teams like Phoenix don't like to foul because it slows the game down.

Re: The Best Game of Kevin Martin's Career
Salmons had a more efficient game.  He scored 13 points on 8 shot attempts.  Kmart scored 20 on 18 shot attempts.

Re: The Best Game of Kevin Martin's Career
Salmons was good, too. The reason KMart's game was so nice to say was because his offense wasn't there at all, and he still scored 20.

Re: The Best Game of Kevin Martin's Career
getting to the line 20 times & hitting 17 is no small accomplishment...only a handful of players in this league could A do get there that many times & even fewer B could hit that many consistently..thats what makes it so special.

Otherwise you are correct salmons was more efficient.

Re: The Best Game of Kevin Martin's Career
ESPN would agree with you.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailyleaders

According to ESPN's rating:

Ron Artest scored a 32.2, with an efficiency rating of -0.1
John Salmons scored a 25.2, with an efficiency rating of 8.2
Kevin Martin scored a 23.9, with an efficiency rating of -7.5
Mike Bibby scored a 23.0, with an efficiency rating of -4.2
Brad Miller scored a 20.2, with an efficiency rating of -1.4
Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored a 15.0, with an efficiency rating of -2.4
Corliss Williamson scored a 13.7, with an efficiency rating of 0.5
Francisco Garcia scored a 7.4, with an efficiency rating of -1.0

EFF = Efficiency of expected output. This gameday's ESPN rating total compared to the player's season-to-date average.

ESPN rating = PTS + REB + 1.4*AST + STL + 1.4*BLK -.7*TO + FGM + .5*TGM -.8(FGA-FGM) + .25*FTM - .8*(FTA-FTM)

Re: The Best Game of Kevin Martin's Career
Louis im all for the sabermetrics stats. But i have seen very few sabermetrics for hoop that work. Basketball is not entirely a game you can define in numbers. There is no bill james (as much as john hollinger might try to be 1 day...& i dont blame him for trying its hard work) of basketball & probably never will be. Baseball has a plethera of numbers to examine & analyze....basketball not so much. Makes hollinger work that much more interesting to me anyway & james' amazing that noone else in the 70 years before him even tried to.

I wasnt assuming you agreed/disagreed louis. I know better than to assume your opinion from somebody elses. I apologize if thats what you actually thought i was saying.

Re: The Best Game of Kevin Martin's Career
Also louis i think it shows how good kevin is that a low shooting % takes his per so far down. I'm impressed that hollinger has come up with a per thats effective in rating average performance. I dont think no amount of numbers though can weigh human factors.

Re: The Best Game of Kevin Martin's Career
But with the shots not falling and the Magic clogging the lanes with no intention of letting Martin through, he still finished with 20 points and put himself in rare company in the process. Martin hit 17 of 20 free throws, becoming just the second player in NBA history to score at least 20 points while hitting just one field goal. Hall of Famer Nate Archibald did it Jan. 16, 1980, scoring 22 points after going 1 of 9 from the field and hitting 20 of 22 free throws

Kinda ironic it was tiny who did it even if it wasnt for KC.
