Roy Hibbert

Is expected to return to school.  Can we please trade for the celtics pick and get Yi or something? Chad Ford's mock draft has us taking Julian Wright, a nice, versatile player who I like a lot, but do we seriously need another swingman? I'll take a chinese dirk any day over having our 4 most useful players at the 2 and 3.
I trust Petrie, but I just don't know how much he can do in that ten spot.  Maybe offer Bibby, the #10 and possibly Garcia/Douby for Theo Ratliff and the 5? I don't know what other options we have...

Re: Roy Hibbert

So true, so very true. And that's not a bad thing either...

Actually, last year
I forget which one, but either nbadraft.net or draftexpress.com had Douby as the Kings' pick with their first mock.  It may have changed over the course of time, but I think they eventually nailed it.

Re: Actually, last year
DraftExpress. Then Alexander Johnson was there for a while, and Sergio Rodriguez and Saer Sene. I think their final mock had Johnson, and Chad Ford had Johnson there until the final hours, when he slid Douby in.

Re: Roy Hibbert
Garcia was mostly projected as a 16-21 pick, I think.  But other than that you're absolutely right.

Re: Roy Hibbert
petrie is great when it comes to the draft.  look at who he has drafted over the years, and not in any particular order:

corliss williamson, solid career

peja, all star (then we found out he was a sissy) and now he can't stay healthy.  but was good for a 5-7 year span

anthony johnson, solid backup point guard

hedo, solid career and a guy i would not mind coming back to play here

gerald wallace, career last year and continues to improve

darius songaila, solid player and when healthy can produce

kevin martin, career year, this year will  be the telling year for him.  has he dedicated himself to continue to get better and become that all-star, consistent player.

garcia, solid player.  this is also a crucial off season for him.  later in the year he showed he belongs and can play.  will he take the next step?  not necessarily as an all-star, but consistent play.

the point here is petrie can draft.  his other moves may be suspect.  the fact that he pulled off two outstanding trades (first to get webber, the second to get rid of him, by get rid of him, i mean his contract, lets face it, his time was up here) gives him some room in my book.  last year was abnormal for him, since the maloofs thought they were mark cuban or jerry jones and thought they knew basketball (what's with the water in dallas?).

Re: Roy Hibbert
Kozimor predicted douby would be our pick like 2 weeks before the draft if i remember right.  Anyone know offhand if Ronnie is still under contract for next season or is he just a FA, because I really want to see him on our roster next year

Re: Roy Hibbert
I think Price is a free agent, and so is Justin Williams.

Re: Roy Hibbert
Williams will be on the summer league, from what I've heard.

I think Geoff likes him a lot, and Muss was indifferent to his presence.

Re: Roy Hibbert
That's kinda crazy too. Do you have the same feeling as I that Ronnie Price won't be on the roster next year?

PS Sorry about earlier (dumb commenting)

Re: Roy Hibbert
i think the kings are making a mistake if they let ronnie go.  i'm not saying he is going to be a great point guard, but he could be good.  but he will be a good backup and that's one of the things this team needs.  if they let him go, it is going to be the same thing like the last 5-6 years, letting the bench players, who could play key roles, go.

It's never good when you lose "energy" guys like Ronnie.

Re: Roy Hibbert
Finding quality bench players is easy. It's the quality franchise players Geoff needs to set his focus on right now. He finds quality bench players in his sleep. Always has.

Re: Roy Hibbert
i beg to differ on that point.  yeah in the late 90s and into the early 2000s he replaced bench guys like he was changing underwear.  but in the last couple of years, the bench has been very inconsistent, and you could even go so far as to argue it was also a weak spot on the team.  back in the day when jb, and bobby and hedo and that crew came off the bench, there were many who said the kings bench could be the starting five on another team.  now, i don't think so.

Re: Roy Hibbert
That's true, but our starting five also couldn't be most teams starting five right now either.  As far as Price goes, I think we should have at least one player who can dunk on carlos boozer.  God, that was beautiful.

Re: Roy Hibbert
Dude, I don't want to start flame but that's just totally off.

Don't compare the early dynamic years of this decade to a retooling/rebuilding year(s) and expect the analogy to work. That's really where im going with this. Are you honestly going to tell me Hedo Turkoglu is better than John Salmons to the point because of the kings had a better record when Hedo played here? I mean cmon man let's get serious here. 1 problem is the team doesn't have that franchise player. Another is that you dont have a damn good helluva goofy knockoff handbag sellin C around either. Let's not compare teams winning 50 games at 1 point to a team in the down year. It's really kinda pointless in a way. Yes the kings had better bench players in yesteryear. But they had alot better starters too. That makes your bench better also.

Re: Roy Hibbert
ok we started talking about ronnie price, and then, if memory serves me correct, you said that petrie was good at filling role players for the bench (i am paraphrasing).  that is what i took from what you said.  i disagreed saying that early on yes, he was good.  lately he has not been so great at filling those needs.  part of it may be coaches not using the players ability and fitting it into the system, but the quality of players themselves that petrie has signed for the bench, yes has gone down.

as for hedo v. salmons, as much as i like salmons, hedo is a far superior player.  hedo is taller, just as quick and has more offensive skills.  he has a better jump shot and will take the ball to the rim just as hard as salmons.  don't get me wrong, i like salmons.  i would rather have hedo.  john plays much better defense, but this team isn't stopping anyone anyway so why not have more of an offensive minded player.

Re: Roy Hibbert
Your point is valid. I didn't qualify it enough. And you did mention that as well so apparently my comment's ran poor. For that I apologize.

My point about Ronnie is that he has served his purpose (I hate saying that and I hope realistically he stays in the league). Doesn't mean though he should remain on the team because he's a good backup. That's really all my point was. I think the kings can get backup's to fill that spot very easily. Over the course of time from the early part of this decade until about oh 2005 it stopped. Well with all due respect I don't think it was all about Geoff last year. I really want to know who's idea it was to sign Maurice Taylor. If it was geoff's he deserve's a dorkstamp for a day on his forehead.

Ok as far as Hedo what offensive skills are you referring to? The 3 ball of his that rarely goes in? The excellent ball handling that means you have to have 4 other scorers on the court with him at all times? I like hedo too and I think it's a virtual draw between Salmons/Turkoglu's skills. Salmons though is slighty more athletic and can be used multiple ways that I'm not sure unless you have the right players around Hedo you can do the same thing. This is a semantic debate I'm more than willing to have. But that's all this really is. And ultimately both are role players who bring different things to the table. Are you honestly sure that Hedo is better in Orlando than Salmons was here in Sac? Because in all honestly, nba, I hope that is your implication.

nah, no need to debate.  i give the equality between the two players.

Hmmmmmm semantic debates never win they just suspend. Either way its 6 or 1/2 dozen in the other.

Re: Roy Hibbert
Justin Williams, Ronnie Price, Vitaly Potapenko, Jason Hart and Corliss Williamson are all coming off the cap. The total of all 6 guys? 10 million. No cap relief coming folks.

Re: Roy Hibbert
Forgot about Maurice Taylor too. Of course since he & hart got waived that's probably a strong indication he won't be back.

This is just funny to me
This crazy
site has Kevin Durant
than Greg Oden. I don't know much but if Durant is less athletic than Oden maybe he isn't that freak of nature everyone says he is. Just a hunch i'm thinking.
