G-Dub is free...Rectify the mistake!

Whaddya think:

Artest,Bibby, 2nd rounder
           for
Gerald Wallace, #8 pick.

This sounds like the no-brainer of the Sacramento century. I dunno about cap issues, but if you CAN get it done GP, it should be done already. You effed it up a while ago, letting him go, and this is your chance top rectify it.

Poll
Was it stupid to let Wallace go in the first place?
Hell yeah, boy. He's a stud at forward.

Don't want G-Dub back. Never wanted him to stay really so I'm glad he's going to get his chance wherever he lands. I voted for "oh yea him? no."

Re: G-Dub is free...Rectify the mistake!
Statline:

18.7, 7.2, 1.5, 1.4, averaging 36 minutes a game.
50 % from the floor.
72 appearances, 71 starts.

He'll be even better next year. He has the athleticism desired, fills artest's spot, plus gets rid of him AND Bibby.
He's in a smaller marjket than ours, and everybody has that knock on him that you all suggest(injuries). I think he'd come cheaper than most people we would grab trading up like most people want. If you can get this line up:

Price/Douby
Martin
GW
Wright
Williams

You have the kind of ball you wanna watch.

Alternately, you can take wallace and package them to Boston or Atlanta for a move up the board, or trade Wallace and a pick for the same sorta deal. I'm not BASKETBALL genius but, this is still the no-brainer for me.

Re: G-Dub is free...Rectify the mistake!
No doubt he can play. But it's not a no brainer. I don't think it's wise to pursue him because fans, who are fantasy players (im not accusing you of anything), have watched his gaudier stat lines. Gaudy stat lines are nice but they hardly prove anything. If the kings traded Artest they'd still have Price Douby Martin Salmons and Garcia. Wallace would cut into one of those guys time. Frankly with the Kings need elsewhere, combined with the high cost of G-Dub, it makes little sense to spend alot of money on a SF. Particularily when you don't have a need and  more importantly it is an easier position to fill deeper in drafts.

Re: G-Dub is free...Rectify the mistake!
pookey, i agree with you.  besides the kings have two similar players already in martin and garcia.  not to mention salmons.  one good year on a bad, albeit improving, team an all-star he does not make.  i does have potential, but again the main reason is the team has three similar players already (salmons his g-dub without the jumpshot and i'm still not sold on wallace's jumpshot as a consistent weapon).  besides this team needs a leader and an identity.  wallace won't give either.

Re: G-Dub is free...Rectify the mistake!
Yup pretty much on the leadership part too. I think fans see his stats and remember his high flying act. It doesn't mean that being an athletic flyer means that much in the NBA without any serious skills. Why do you think Kevin Durant is being considered for the #1 pick?

Re: G-Dub is free...Rectify the mistake!
Cap issues notwithstanding (plus it would have to be a future 2nd rounder as we don't have one this year), you're trading one guy for the #8 pick and the other guy for Wallace.  If he doesn't want an arm and a leg of a contract, sure, why not?  It is interesting though how Wallace has been called underrated so much he's now probably overrated.  He still can't shoot a lick from the outside and he has a lot of trouble staying healthy.  And he's probably going to command a long term contract, which makes me nervous when you consider his health issues.  He will probably be too expensive to make this a good deal.

Re: G-Dub is free...Rectify the mistake!
The Big problem is that you'd have to wait for a s&t for G-Dub on July 15th. Which means that you would have to agree to it in principle by thursday. What do you think the likelihood of that is section? From where I stand it's small. Plus the b's are cheap and draft picks are the best form of cheap value in the NBA.

Re: G-Dub is free...Rectify the mistake!
I think that there is virtually no chance that it comes together by Thursday, and I think the bigger stumbling block is that his new contract is going to be to big and to long.

Re: G-Dub is free...Rectify the mistake!
The preliminary contract numbers for Wallace look to be about $10 million a year for five or six years.  Kinda pricey.

Re: G-Dub is free...Rectify the mistake!
agreed.  we already have too many overpaid, underproductive players on our team.  besides i don't think he is the best fit.

Re: G-Dub is free...Rectify the mistake!
Did any of you see GWs games last year? he was DAMN good...and if you think garcia/salmons losing time to him is a bad thing, check your head. Either one of those guys is not and is never going to be as good GW. I like garcia, but not at the expense of a proven, athletic scorer from the 3 spot. Salmons? WGAF about Salmons? He reminds me of KT with a lil more game.

Yeah, pulling off a trade for him is a pipe dream, but I smoke blunts so I'm just trying to put ANOTHER dream in the air...

if there's a bobcats version of this place go there n' ask around see what they think. I think if he's got the right coaching he'll destroy, barring injury.

More to the point, GW's just another dude we shouldn't have let go:

Matt Barnes
Eddie House
Mo Evans
Bonzi Wells(I know, I know!)

Re: G-Dub is free...Rectify the mistake!
Wallace could be a tremendous player but six years, $60 million is about what he'll command and that's just too much.
As far as the other four guys mentioned - nice players.  Collectively they still don't get us to the playoffs last year.  Barnes, Evans and Wells all would play behind Artest and Martin, so there minutes would have been limited.  I'm not sure that Eddie House is Eddie House anymore.  It's like the Jim Jackson thing.  Nice player, but how do you match a three year, $21 million contract when he's going to play behind Peja?  Those guys are all journeymen, and we've already got a roster chock full of 'em.

Re: G-Dub is free...Rectify the mistake!
I think ppl assume sometimes assume that G-Dub's stats would translate well here in Sac. I just don't think that would be the case. The price tag is too high, he gets hurt to much, Petrie doesn't like him and prefers Kevin Martin anyway. I just think the price is wrong.....BITCH!

Re: G-Dub is free...Rectify the mistake!
matt barnes is the only "maybe" i would have kept from this list.  and even he could go bonzi wells and have a good playoff series, get a fat GUARANTEED contract and then disappear.  eddie house followed up with one good year in phoenix and since then i haven't heard much from him.  mo is a nice role player but even hasn't exactly lit it up anywhere.  last year was his best year and he only avg. 8.4 pts/game in 22 mins/game.  bonzi, well you even kind of admit it, should have signed a fat contract here, then had to settle for houston, got injured and never really helped out.

to his credit, petrie has been pretty good at judging talent when it comes to bench/contribution-type players.  he has known when to keep them and when to let them go.  another good example of this is bobby jackson.  as much as we all love how he plays the game, he just can't stay healthy and is at the end of his career.

it makes you really appreciate the "Bench Mob" days when the second five was just as good as the starting five on most teams in the league.  that's how special those teams were and now it is time to realize we have to start over.
