Speaking of Preseason...

What's the greatest televised Sacramento-era Kings preseason moment? Your nominees:

Gerald Wallace on Boki Nachbar, 2003-04

Brian Skinner rejects Shawn Marion, 2005-06

Poll on the right. I sense I know the winner. (And thanks to rbiegler for tracking down the Gerald clip.)

UPDATE: Damn! I cannot believe I forgot this also happened in preseason...

Re: Speaking on Preseason...
I am probably wrong, but I thought DC gave Fox that beat down in a pre-season game. ????

Hey, I was actually right for once!

Ok, I change my vote to the Fox ass-kicking.

Re: Speaking on Preseason...
Change mine too.  There's little better in life than Rick Fox taking a beatdown.

Re: Speaking on Preseason...
Well, if these two are my choices, I've got to go with the block.  I just think it's a tougher play to make.  Any decent athlete over 6'2 can dunk and do it fairly easily (if his hands are big enough.)  However, the timing and precision to block a dunk like that one is pretty f*cking amazing. I forgot what a fine athlete Skinner was. (He also had really good foot speed.) Too bad he had like zero range on his shot and really very little basketball skill.

I prefer to call him "Snack Bar", it reminds me of going to my little league games.

Re: Speaking of Preseason...
I'm taking the Fox beat down, although it's fun to watch Skinner snuff Marion.  On one of the replay angles you can see a guy on the end of the Phoenix bench getting up to celebrate the impending monster dunk. Take a seat, pal.

Re: Speaking of Preseason...
the only thing about the skinner dunk is you can still hear jerry reynolds.  what a life that guy leads.  he is the george costanza of the kings, the assistant to the traveling secretary.

Re: Speaking of Preseason...
That left hand chin music was the pure physical manifestation of Kings vs. Lakers circa 2000-2003 and hence the royal flush of preason moments but for pure on the court basketball action I think Kusian nailed it with the Skinner block.  The Matrix is about as filthy as they come slashing down the paint as far as pure speed and fury in smashing the ball on someone's head.  I have never seen someone mail his shit back that clean at the highest point.  Probably the hardest play to make in the game.
Damn you Robert Horry!!!

Re: Speaking of Preseason...
I can't seem to go back and change my vote after the update (had vote #1 btw) but imho DC laying the smackdown on Fox wins hands down.

Re: Speaking of Preseason...
nothing is better than beating the shit out of a Laker. Especially if that guy is Rick Fox.

I recall one more amazing play - Peja's full court behind the back pass to (probably) BJax for the layup. One of the "I can't believe what I just saw" plays.

Rick Fox & Doug Christie
Doug Christie was on the ground and than got up and what the hell was Rick Fox doing? it looked like he was trying to explain to the ref what happened or whatever? WTF? anyways..there both great role players.

Re: Speaking of Preseason...
Doug Christie's ass-whuppin' of Rick Fox...forever.

Few people remember that off the court, after Fox tracked Christie to the hallway, Doug landed three punches in a row to Fox's face that MELTED him. If you can find the footage, you can see each shot making Fox slide down the wall, and not looking very conscious from the first salvo.

Bonus: Fox's wife Vanessa Williams was watching.

Super Bonus: Fox was divorced and out of the league within two years of that humiliation.

Re: Speaking of Preseason...
DC's upper cut to Hollywood.  I talked to the Kings head of security when the Kings played a preseason game here in Eugene Oregon vs. the Blazers a few years ago and he said things were getting pretty busy in the tunnel.  I did like the way he pushed (albiet just a little bit) shaq back ....I miss the rivalry.
