Another Artest-Knicks Rumor

From Chris Sheridan's column on stars possibly on the move:

[Ron Artest]'d be wearing a Knicks uniform by now if Isiah Thomas had been willing to trade Nate Robinson and Renaldo Balkman ...

Balkman's my second favorite Knick, a Gerald Wallace clone (though with fewer offensive instincts, if you can believe it). And Nate Robinson's basically Quincy Douby - six inches + hops + crystal meth, someone I don't think will ever be a legitimate NBA starter.

If the deal would assure Douby's future role as a shooting guard and facilitate an attempt to go big on a +Beno free agent point guard (cough, Jose Calderon, cough)... then we just might have a deal.

Not for me
I do not like this trade at all.  Nor do I like Nate Robinson in any way.  I am down to trade Artest to the Knicks, but I want David Lee and [insert big expiring contract here] in return.  The last thing this team needs is another athletic swingman.  I am so willing to part with Artest because we have Salmons and Garcia to back him up.
Wait....Why is everybody clapping? Everyone around me is clapping.... I guess I should be clapping too... GO LAKERS!!! I hate living in So Cal

The thing that interests me most
Is not the whole Nate Robinson/Renaldo Balkman thing. It's that supposedly the Heat are trying to get under the luxury tax, while taking on longer contracts for expiring contracts, and all the nonsense that comes in between. Chris Sheridan is tremendously versed at contradicting himself.

What a joke,
How about a plausible trade rumor jack-ass. Please trade us the 11 and 12 man on the worse team in the NBA for an all NBA defender. Maybe the Knicks can extend Marbury for 5 more years and the Kings will throw in Martin and Bibby.

Artest just got a nice break and should be fresh for a stretch run. Petrie will do right by us on this one.

We are slipping into the NBA abyss.

Yeah
But that "Ben Wallace for Zach Randolph" tidbit, while not true and will never happen, sure is tasty.
Kendrick Perkins, aka the expiring contract of notoriety, is going to go where, exactly? The wolves will want youth/talent/picks for the right of the expiring contract - isn't the point of amassing cap space so that you can get those three items? Naaah, he's staying put till the end of the season.
If this were a perfect world, we'd get Balkman and Lee for Artest, and Bibby will turn into cap space and draft picks, which will result in Calderon and a beastly center who undeservedly falls low into the draft.

Rumors
I think Petrie's probably the most closed-mouthed GM in the league. Did anyone see the Webber trade coming? Christie? Peja's trade got press before the trigger was pulled, but only because Peja himself leaked it by calling Grant Napear.(At least, according to Napear.)

Sheridan is like the National Enquirer of the sports world. Rumor, innuendo, and very little of substance.

I'd like him better if he came out with a story about alien abductions. Maybe a sure-fire way to lose 30 pounds overnight. Three headed baby, anyone?

Don't make me come in there!

Well...
I say let's take Sheridan's article and run with it...

Kings-Suns-Cavs deal.  Bibby to Cleveland, the cheaper and -1 year Hughes contract and the 1 year Newble contract to the Suns, and the Suns send Stoudemire to us.

Maybe in the off-season trade Kenny Thomas for the Special Olympics track and field bronze medalist and we're ready to make a run for the championship.

Yeah, I know, no way would the Special Olympics make that trade...

Douby<Robinson
I like Nate Robinson. His athleticism can definitely change a game. He plays hard as hell but his size is a sticking point but I think he can be a nice change of pace guy for a team. I like Nate Robinson.

I don't care
What ever we have to do to get Jose Calderon is fine by me. Trade Artest AND Bibby if they have to. Just keep Martin, Salmons, Udrih, Miller and Garcia. Anyone else can go and I don't care who we get back. If we can make a run for Jose. Problem is, can we be the highest bidder next season no matter what. That I don't know.
He can shoot, and he looks great in a suit. Hey, everybody - It's REGGIE TIME!

Trade Brad
C'mon. If ur going to trade Mike Bibby and Ron Artest, you may as well trade Brad Miller as well. He ain't a spring chicken no more and he isn't going to get much better. Brad's got value right now.

I would do a Kwame Brown and some sort of an asset (#1 pick) for Brad Miller deal right now. Get expiring contract, continue building with an asset and then let Spencer develop.

Hold on to those horses there.
Call me insane but I wouldn't take Kwame Brown if they gave up Kobe along with him. If you think Mikki Moore has bad hands or that you dislike Kenny Thomas then wait till you get a load of Brown. That's exactly what he is a big load of Brown.

Change your perseption
Would it help if you thought of it as trading for "Kwame Brown's Expiring Contract" (KBEC for short) instead of trading for "Kwame Brown"?

Not only would the Kings save $1.5M this year (plus over $11M & $12M the next two years, respectively), but they would also get a piece back as proposed above.

This would push up the rebuild, giving the Kings some cap space to play with next year (Calderon seems to be the hot name today), in addition to whatever piece we got with KBEC.

If that doesn't help, I don't know what else to tell you.

In the meantime, I'll change my SPELLCHECK
I can't believe I misspelled "perception".

Truth be told...
I'm still waiting to see what everyone else appears to that makes Garcia untouchable.  I see him much like what Gerald Wallace was to us, someone who CAN be a force, but probably can't be here.

Garcia...
seems to be K-Mart Lite. A pretty good back-up to the original, and a decent ball handler. His development seems to be about 1-1 1/2 years behind his buddy Kevin, but he's a great hustle player.

My $.02, for what it's worth...

Yeah, but...
He's still making the same stupid turnovers as day one
