Coexist???
Well, I finally have been able to see what I've been waiting the better part of the year for. I always thought/argued/believed that Bibby and Beno could effectively coexist on the Kings. Last night made it evidently clear the both of them could not only coexist, but that they can both play significant minutes.
In the win last night, Bibby played 30 minutes, while Beno got his 25...They combined to shoot 11-20, good for 28pts. With our traditional lack of scoring at the 4 during the PW days (Post-Webber), the Kings have had to rely on the 2 and 3 positions to make up for the PPG left on the table from the 4 position on a nightly basis. (Brad Millers ppg isnt consistantly high, and JWilliams shoots like a fat middle school aged girl, so our 5's dont help to fill the PPG void on a nightly basis left by the 4 spot). If we can get Bibby and Beno nightly minutes, the PG position will take some pressure off the wings to have to carry the scoring load every night. There is no doubt in my mind, that this scoring from the 1 spot will allow the Kings to play a much more consistant style of ball, and make a nice little run in the 2nd half of the season.
This reason is why I have been vocal arguing against the trade of Bibby for trash like Gooden, ect(Which everyone on this site seems to be so infatuated with!).The Kings (F-that, every team in the league w/o a Superstar) simply needs scoring at the PG position. People on here often complain about our need for a "true" PG (Whatever the hell that means???). As if to say that Bibby isnt a true PG, which is complete bullsh*t! A "True" PG does whatever his team needs to succeed, often orchestrating the action, whether that means getting points OR assist. Like I stated above, we have NOTHING offensively at the 4 (havnt for years), so Bibby and Beno NEED to be able to put up buckets. Both players' style of play I admire as "true" PG's, although their games do contrast in many ways! The Kings need to keep Bibby (salary aside) and hope that Beno doesnt demand too much $$$ at the seasons end. I'm looking forward to having the both of them playing significant minutes nightly, while adapting to whatever the team needs on a game to game basis!

Bibby isn't a pure PG

And,,,,
If its a PG who only drives and kicks, and defers from shooting, then I'm glad we don't have that type of PG...
We have absolutely NO 4!!!!!! Which is a scoring position. We need a PG who can put up buckets to compensate for the lack of scoring at the 4 (and often 5) positions

With all due respect there's no point
Okay here's the problem. You keep him and you get what? Cap Room? Yippee. You won't have any. You keep him and you probably pay lux tax for 09 if you want to have 10 players on your team. The other part of this, and it's a big part I do add, is why does Bibby matter that much? If he was an all star I could see keeping him. But you have to have incredibly tinted glasses to:
- Justify that he was EVER an all star
- that he isn't overpaid to begin with

I..
As far as being overpaid. Maybe I am wearing tinted glasses on this one. I agree that he seems overpaid right now (largely due to his 1st sub-par season last year) and the relatively solid play of Beno thus far. But over the years, I perosnally believe that Bibby has pretty much lived up to his contract. He gave the Kings an upper-tier PG (the hardest position to find (I'd listen to an argument as 5's being harder)) for the last 5-7 years or so. I think that warrents the large sum of cash! But, Beno's find was another solid one by GP! You'd be lucky to find another cheap PG as effective as Beno in the League. And next year, Beno could very well be considered "over-paid" as well, depending on how shrewd his agent is...
And I very well understand the difference between an assist and crating opportunities for other players, Sir! Ive said for a while that the assist number is "fools gold" for any Kings PG. The style of offence that we play does not allow for any PG to truely boost his assist totals. (whether that is Bibby or Beno!) The reason for this is because our 5 (who has been good this year..(And greatly overpaid!))is afraid of the paint and our 4 is also horrible in the post. Therefore, Beno and Bibby don't get assist totals on ally-oops/dunks nor low post buckets like Nash, Paul ect get from their Bigs!
I however, do disagree with you about Bibby notcreating shots well. He may not do this "as well" as Beno does Sir, but Bibby is more than capable of creating shots for others. (The assist to Moore last night where he got it through traffic was truely masterful). Namely, check out the way he and Miller work the pick and roll! He is one of the most effective players oin the leafue at this, as he was for Webb and Divac. Thats just one example of his creative abilities. I could go on and on but it seems people have already made up their minds on Bibby (after one sub-par year)!

Is Bibby part of the future?
by otis29 on Jan 19, 2008 8:16 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
ummmm
By saying "Is Bibby part of the future?", are you already giving up on this current team as being capable of doing anything? If that is the case, then "Is Miller part of the Future?"..ummmm NO! What about Salmons, Garica, Martin, Artest??? Not ALL of them are parts of the furture, too much of a log-jam! So you should include those statements in your "Is Bibby part of the future?" assesment!
I on the otherhand, havnt quite given up on this team yet. I think that 1-3, we are on par with the elite teams in the league! I think the future of this team all depends on what we do with the 4-5 positions!!!

No
So Bibby and Miller both need to go IMO. And unfortunately, it looks like Artest needs to go as well.
The only reason I asked about Bibby and none of the rest of the squad is because, well, that was the subject of conversation in the comment section of this diary.

You said it.
Bibby will not sign here for 6-7 million which is what he's worth, maximium. Someone out there will overpay him, just not the Kings. I like Bibby probably better than most on the Royalty but at his price he is not in the future plans of this team. It really is a moot point to argue otherwise. He's gone so everyone might as well accept it. GP should get what he can get for Bibby and Artest. To quote my favorite show, "One move... right off!!!"
