Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

"I hate Vegas," said [Donté] Greene, who played one season at Syracuse before he was drafted in June. "I don't know (why), I just really don't like big cities. I've never been to Miami. My first time to New York was my senior year in high school. That's why I love Sacramento. A few years from now, I'm going to buy me a house (in Sacramento) and just live out there. I ain't going nowhere. I love Sacramento."

Donté Greene becomes the first NBA player to convince fans he actually prefers Sacramento to L.A. or New York.

That's a great quote

I’m just interested in what he thinks of the Evil Cowtown come July. If he keeps saying that than the kid has my vote for life.

ha, not even close

I’m from the Virgin Islands going to school in Jers.

Since your next question will be “Then why the hell are you a Kings fan” – I started payin attention to the game right when the Kings were clicking. Got on the bandwagon and never fell off.

Jerzey and NYC are a possibility too

Although attending the Knicks is a very pricey proposition.

No I was just curious IW. We’re all fans here. It is a bit surprising you didn’t become intrigued with hoop because of Timmy D, or maybe to a lesser extent, Raja Bell.

They got me into ball

Playing and paying attention, but I really got into the Kings for some reason. I liked the style, liked the Unis, liked the home crowd. Whatever, it’s all good. I still root for the Suns and the Spurs.

Hmmm...

I’ll look into it. Probably take my little bro. Should be a good one, though how easy is it to get tickets? I get tickets to the Kings/Nets game for free b/c I have a friend with season tickets and no one wants them, so I’m definitely willing to splurge for decent seats. Plus, Philly should be wild this year.

I think at this point a more appropriate question is

Why the hell are any of us Kings fans? It’s pretty safe to say that anyone who is active on this website right now cannot ever have their legitimacy as a fan challenged in the future. Also, I really need to see a game (ie, get a new computer or move out from behind the great firewall) because it is hard for me to imagine Shawes being a lock down defender.

by Travis Mays Hayes on Oct 13, 2008 7:45 PM PDT up reply actions

hey man, seeing is believin

Not saying its a revolution, but I did in fact see Andrew Bynum get the ball in the high post, and got bounced back in his attempt to back his way down low. Then, when switching on the pick-and-roll, Hawes drew the foul on the guard. I was impressed. I know, I know, it’s all little things… but those are important little things.

Defense is about intelligence, desire, and tenacity. He might not be able to be the king of weak-side blocks, but he certainly has the ability to be a good defender.

Two things

1. I’m sure Donte will learn to like Vegas when he’s old enough to do the things professional athletes do in Vegas.
2. Vegas ain’t for everybody. Gambling is the only thing I can think of where you pay money and get nothing in return. I like Vegas for about 2-3 days per year (mostly for the food and shows) and then I’m done with it. But I am a certifiable weirdo, so there’s that.

I hate Vegas

But it’s mostly because I get to spend way too many trade shows there. Well that and the whole Mormon thing. Not so many things to do in vegas when you don’t drink, gamble, or fool around with anyone other than Mrs. SavageBeast. But as far as the big town little town debate, LPA and I moved from San Jose to a little burb called Spanish Fork, UT, for exactly that reason. Although, if opportunities present themselves in the next few years, we could end up back in the Roseville/Auburn/Loomis area. We’d kill to get season tickets to Kings games again.

I like Big Cities

I hate large Suburban area’s. I don’t understand why Roseville is so popular. It’s traffic is probably worse than Sacramento’s is all things considered.

I live in an area any time it rains, and you think people in Seattle would be used to it by now, is when everything slows down because people slow to an absolute crawl in a light rain where it’s not necessary. (It rarely rains hard enough here for that to be necessary.)

I don’t do Vegas cuz I don’t gamble, and shopping is boring. I also live in a city where there is plenty of opportunities for that are also available. I wouldn’t go there for the strip clubs because I find those boring, and I haven’t got the chance to hit all the bars in Seattle yet. Since Seattle has plenty of places to shoot pool, and to watch the KIngs I’m pretty much set. Vegas is for high rollers like Bill Simmons, not cheap fat pricks like me.

It didn't used to be.

Back in the day, Douglas Blvd was fields on each side. But now the traffic is nasty. I wouldn’t move back until traffic was not an issue since I would be writing at home. But I love the lake and the weather. And we have lots of family nearby.

Hey!

I’m from Loomis. You wouldn’t happen to be related to Jeff Savage, with whom I went to high school, would you SavageBeast? I thought there might be something there when I saw that report on your book from Utah, but I thought it a little too big of a leap to assume that you were related to Jeff just because you lived in UT and had the last name Savage. I just realized how weird this is going to come off as if you aren’t related to him…

your band was kick ass. There was a jazz version of the Foothill band back in the late ’70’s that used to play Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis tunes at the basketball games. Pretty cool.

i love the suburbs near a big city

that’s the way to go. for the most part, i like both the smaller towns and the bigger cities

but i will say one thing, i’ve never been to Vegas and I have no desire to go. I can’t stand gambling. it’s such a waste. my wife loves it and any time she wants to do it we set a certain amount of money for both of us to spend. i prefer to play a few rounds of blackjack and then keep the rest to buy something nice for myself later.

i know there’s more to Vegas than just gambling, such as food and shows, but at the same time the place seems too gawdy for me. i’d love to try some of the world class restaurants but they are expensive, plus i can cook some damn fine food myself. as far as shows, i have never and will never want to see Bette Midler, Celine Dion, or Michael Jackson. Cirque De Solei might be cool on ’shrooms ala Knocked Up, though
