Would you do this trade?

I would

IT saves us 9 mil next season. Would put us over the tax this season, unless you assume that Reef will get the medical exemption. If that happens we’d be ok this season. We lose Miller but get scoring help for Kevin in the form of Marion. I don’t see it changing our win total this season much. So, I’d do it just for the salary savings next season. Also Marion could be a nice trade piece as we near the deadline.

I'm with it

I don’t see anything wrong with it — losing Miller hurts the offense, getting Darko hurts the offense … but the team might actually have some interior defense and rebounding in the short term and free up enough cash to make a play one year early.

O

Offense would come from Beno,Kmart,Salmons,MARION,Garcia&Jackson.

by hudson101 on Oct 22, 2008 7:43 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

But

The offense would still be worse. Miller shoots and passes better than Marion, and Brad screens are otherworldly.

You know -

that’s not bad. I don’t know that it sexes anyone up, but Memphis reduces payroll, Miami still clears space 2010, and the Kings clear space for ’09. Hello, Carlos Boozer!

Normally

I wouldn’t object to any trade that gets us a starting PF. But, to trade for Marion just so we can release him for cap space with nothing in return. Hoping to aquire some unname super star that may be available seems too daring to me. And, then end up with Hawes, Darko, JT & Thomas as our bigs, is really scarey.

I’d much rather see a deal that’s going after someone we can sign to a long contract and plan to build around. I guess I’m just a little gun shy after we’ve be burnt by some of the other gambles we’ve taken.

Marion

If we play good w/ this combo,he might sign next yr at about 10 mil/yr for 5yrs!

by hudson101 on Oct 23, 2008 7:49 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I think most of you...

Are missing the point of this trade. Your ability to ironically own a Darko Kings jersey in perpetuity.

by rbiegler on Oct 23, 2008 7:52 AM PDT reply actions   1 recs

Point of the trade

Is to reduce cap space next yr & 2010 w/ Darko & Thomas & Salmons(player option wont be picked up if Garcia in starting lineup)=23mil off that yr.Is the point.I added up contracts for next yr w/ this lineup and came up w/ 53mil.If that`s right that should be 15 mil under cap next yr depending on SAR contract!

by hudson101 on Oct 23, 2008 8:31 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

The above is what...

those in the business call a “joke.” I didn’t actually assume your intention with mention of the above trade had anything to do with sartorial proclivities, particularly not those related to jersey wearing. Besides everyone knows the best ironically owned Kings jersey is Ostertag anyway.

It may be time to bust out the Commentary Ombudsman after his extended, and still ongoing, hiatus.

Salmons contract

I beieive is an ETO and not a team option in 2010. Although, if he continues to play like he has, he will probably opt out since he’ll be making less than MLE money.

Also, are you confusing the Luxury Tax with the Salary Cap. The Salary cap in 09 should be approx. $61M. So, your base salary of $53M only gives you $8M of cap space not $15M.

CAP

You`re right I confused the #`s.Still we`ll hold Marion`s rights and be able to resign him.If you give Salmons to MIA also that would be 14mil next yr.

by hudson101 on Oct 23, 2008 10:17 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Excellent Point

But you are now one expiring contract away (Thomas or Darko going into next year) from clearing viable cap space.

If you take away the Sacramento and Memphis Point of View...

Then you are looking at a Miami team giving up Shawn Marion, an all star who is still in his prime, for Brad “puff puff pass” Miller. Miami is doing a phenomenal job rebuilding a team that imploded after winning the Championship. They have D-Wade (a top 5 player in the NBA when he’s healthy), Michael Beasley (The Number 2 pick in the draft) and Marion (Who could either bring a spectacular presence or amazing trade value). I find it extremely hard for Miami to pull off this trade even though they are lacking presence at the center position. Kings would say yes, Memphis would say yes, but Riles and Miami would probably say no because even with Miller they would still not be considered a Championship contender.

by the3rdK-Mart on Oct 23, 2008 9:00 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

MIA

On hoopshype in the MIA section they`re begging for Brad,so they could finally have a center & move Beasley & Haslem in the lineup.Plus they have alot of players signed & adding more players to the deal would just clutter things up for them.Although,if we added Salmons to MIA he could play PG for them & they would be happy. It works in ESPN trade machine also.

tried to put in link for another trade sorry

miller&salmons to MIA for Marion & M.Moore & S. Williams to CHI for D.Gooden

by hudson101 on Oct 23, 2008 12:19 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Nope

Chicago likes Gooden and he’s an expiring contract – no upside for the Bulls on that one.

SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!

by section214 on Oct 23, 2008 12:44 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

TRUE

But if we paid 2mil on Moore,he could provide a shooting bigman vet presence that will be easy for CHI to bench to clear time for NOAH & TYRUS.We`d still be 19 mil under cap if we paid 2mil!
I add up 42mil for next yrs payroll after that trade.

by hudson101 on Oct 23, 2008 1:12 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Run the idea over to Blog-A-Bull

I’ll betcha a nickel it will be less than well received.

And don’t get me wrong – I’m not knocking you for the effort. But if the Bulls want to unload Gooden, they can probably do better than Moore and Williams. Point is, they don’t want to get rid of him right now, and they will probably be close enough to a playoff spot that they won’t dump at the deadline.

ONLY MIA

What about Miller&Salmons&Draft pick don`t really care which one(we have 4)for Marion.Try Moore at 5.Replace him w/ Hawes, cut him next yr at 2mil.SIGN S. HILL watch him move up the depth chart .19 mil off CAP next yr!

by hudson101 on Oct 23, 2008 3:39 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Three for one

Basicly, your suggesting we trade our 2nd & 3rd best players for a starting PF, who we would then dump for cap space one yr earlier. And, you have no guarantee that you could resign Marion. OK.

So, now what are you going to do with the 19mil?

Still Dreaming

Its hard to answer your ? not knowing who`s gonna be avalible ESPN has an article of potental 09 FA.Boozer could opt out.D.Lee & A.Bynum are restricted FA`s I covet, but still that all depends on our draft. If a top pick lands in our lap it changes everything. All I know is I like to be 19 mil under the cap and young not 11mil over the cap and old.We could stay young save our money until 2010 also?

by hudson101 on Oct 23, 2008 10:05 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I hear you

I guess I’m just not a big gambler. I prefer to pick the guy you want first and try to make a deal with his team, before I give away our base.

If Utah were going to let Boozer get away without anything in return, they’d be idiots. So, why not just work a deal with them. I think it’s highly likely that most of the 09 FA’s will resign with their own team based on past history. Then we’ll end up with all this cap space and no where to go.

Cap space can be very valuable

Look at what Seattle did with cap space. They took on Kurt Thomas and 2 #1s from Phoenix for cap space and then traded Kurt to the Spurs for expirings and another #1. Another example is what the Clips did this off season. They got Camby basically for free. If we build the cap space a player will come.

Seattle didn't have cap space

They had a trade exception which they used to acquire Kurt Thomas and the picks. But everything else is true.

Thanks

I thought that might have been the case, but didn’t look it up(stupid lazy Kfan). They got the exception from the Lewis sign and trade right(Kfan being lazy again)?

Love that line

Cute

we build the cap space a player will come.

Not against cap space. Just saying if there’s a FA you want to get and you think he’s own time won’t or can’t resign him, why go through all this third party trade hassle. Just go to his team and work out a sign & trade. Then everybody wins and there’s no gamble involved.

MARION

He`s an allstar waiting to be paired w/ a young star like KMART.together they could take the Kings to great things in the future W/ some help & luck (ie:PORTLAND).So tell me Why Marion won`t resign, you yourself said most FA`s resign.

by hudson101 on Oct 24, 2008 3:37 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm stumped

I thought your original plan was to trade for Marion so when his contract ended we would have 19 mil cap space to sign a FA.

What about Miller&Salmons&Draft pick don`t really care which one(we have 4)for Marion.Try Moore at 5.Replace him w/ Hawes, cut him next yr at 2mil.SIGN S. HILL watch him move up the depth chart .19 mil off CAP next yr!

If that was the case, then we would have no money left to resign Marion.

My thought was if you want Marion for a long term, then just work out a deal with Miami and don’t worry about cap space.

Just looking at both scenerios

I would hope to sign him to 10 or 11 /yr for 5 yrs or we be looking elsewhere. We either have a happy resigned star or 19 mil under.A problem I`d love to have.
