The Good
* Kevin Martin is ready on offense. Brad Miller is ready on the board and passing. Beno Udrih is ready. John Salmons is ready. Spencer Hawes is ready. Mikki Moore is ready.
The Bad
* Bobby Brown is not ready. If Bobby Jackson is ready, I'm afraid. Francisco Garcia would be ready if he weren't in pain. Jason Thompson is ready for everything except for scoring the ball even close to efficiently.
The Ugly
* It might be a long time before Donté Greene is ready.

Jason Thompson...
Is he, potentially of course, Rasheed Wallace with more speed and less asshole?
by rbiegler on Oct 24, 2008 11:24 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Don't think so
Rasheed is primarily a jump shooter who takes a lot of threes, and perimeter player. I see Thompson playing more around the basket. He hasn’t played long enough for me to get a feel for what he can do. I’m thinking Thompson is more like an athletic Brian Grant or maybe a Kurt Thomas.

I think JT is
Jason Thompson, let him play his game and hope in 15 years people are saying that rookie plays like Jason Thompson :-)

I agree with Carl...
JT is not a Rasheed Wallace type player. I see Brian Grant- especially a young Brian Grant but with a bigger upside. During Grant’s first season with the Kings he showed not only similar ability but a similar mindset that I see in JT. I see a lot of the same excitement /over excitement in JT that Grant displayed as a rookie- I blame the smaller school/less exposure thing mixed with wanting to prove themselves. I hope JT is somewhere between Grant and Karl Malone which health should help to determine but worse case scenario I see a taller Jason Maxiell.

Kenny Thomas
has proved he is the worst player on this team…what happened to this guy?
by Ultrakingsfan on Oct 24, 2008 11:45 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Man, Kenny's rebounding
Is absolutely horrendous. Why else is he out there? And how the hell did Shelden slip behind Kenny when he rebounds at triple the rate?

Actually, going by these numbers,
I think he proved that he just edges out Martin for the most efficient player on the team. 1.42 points per shot? Unbelievable! 66.7% FG%? Otherworldly!
sigh
Don’t you miss the days when you could post something like this and hope that Isiah Thomas would stumble across it while surfing the web?

for the SPCA to take him.

Back court too ready to shot 3's
The PG’s need to put the ball on the court and get a couple of steps inside the 3pt line. Right now their just wasting a possession when they put up a 3.

Maybe you have noticed
According to the Doug Steele’s page that TZ links, Kevin Martin has had the best scoring performance of the pre/season (34 points, Eric Gordon being the second with 33 against the Kings) and Spencer Hawes has had the best rebounding performance of the pre-season (against Houston, ties dith few other players).

Well
1.Donte will be stuck at the end of the bench more than likely. He’s a project that’s for sure.
2. Um, Shelden fell behind Kenny Thomas on the depth chart, how exactly?
by Genesis336 on Oct 24, 2008 2:47 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Seriously!
Thomas averaged double digit minutes and only took 6 shots the entire pre-season.
He is supposed to be a rebounding machine, but the numbers just aren’t there.
And the team’’s offense and defense were decidedly worse when he was on the court.
Can we, maybe, trade him for a couple of AM/PM hotdots and a warm, flat, diet pepsi?

This just the obligatory...
Give everyone a chance kind of thing in the preseason. I doubt Shelden nor Kenny will see much PT especially Kenny when the regular season tips off.

Sure
But I still resent paying him almost $9M and I’d rather have the team spend that on nachos for the fans, or maybe sufficient fabric so the dancers can have costumes that leave something to the imagination rather than a talentless and untradeable bench warmer.
IMO, nobody, and I mean NOBODY should ever come off the bench behind Kenny Thomas.

Greene/ Brown
What are the are the thoughts on either of the two going down to the d-league for stints? I realize the d league hasnt been used before but greene needs to see the court to improve his D. Brown I am not so sure on because I would rather keep 3 points available given health at that postion over the last few years
by Hilton on Oct 24, 2008 3:22 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
No, I don't think so
Depth isn’t great at either position. Depending on Douby, Greene could actually get spot duty if Garcia is out the full two weeks we expect. Right now, Brown is getting minutes over Jackson. Not sure that continues, but …

Move Moore out
to his real position of backup. Reggie needs to introduce the Ivory Towers to the league. 14/10/60FG% per 36 mins for Hawes? That’s crazy.
by CloudyEyes on Oct 24, 2008 3:29 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
No backup center
The problem is that if you start Hawes at Power Forward, you’ve got no backup center. Hawes doesn’t have the athleticism to compete against Power Forwards on defense and Hawes and Miller are too similar to play together for long stretches. Center is also Spencer’s best position. I can see stints where you have Hawes playing with Miller, but not 30 minutes per night.

Spencer really helped
his stats out last night with an awesome perfomance. K9’s salary is no worse then the 6/7 million the dubs have been carrying on their payroll for the last 2 years for Foyle. It is what it is and what it is is the business of basketball which is rarely pretty.
I can’t figure who JT reminds me of yet but I’m sure more impressed with him than the unknown kid we drafted resulting in a drunken meltdown here. I think we got a player who is going to help this team get better sooner rather then later.

I think he is referring to draft night when we picked an unknown kid, which resulted in a drunken meltdown on the board. I could be wrong, though.

Rewarding effort
Based on Amick’s report of Theus’ anger at practice over the lack of concentration, I’m guessing Kenny is seeing pt because he works hard at practice. If I’m right, then Theus is being true to his work that “players determine their own PT”. OR, maybe I’m just blowing smoke.

In general, whatever the reason, Kenny playing over Shelden makes little sense.

Or anything for that matter
Shelden Williams > Kenny Thomas in all area’s of life.
Better college, famous girlfriend, higher draft pick, More original first name, almost as generic but not quite last name, Shelden is from OKC, and Kenny might be from Alberquerque. Shelden.Williams > Kenny Thomas
