Just got back from the game

Things I liked:

1. Beno and the kids (Hawes, JT, BB) keeping us in the game despite missing Speed and B-52 having a way-off night

2. The Arco crowd. There was a buzz tonight that wasn’t present for Memphis and Minnesota, and a little noise in the 4th.

3. JT starting at the 3. I was wrong on that one, I thought we’d be better off with Quincy or Bobby J at the 2. Interesting that QD saw NO time with both Cisco and Speedracer out.

Things I didn’t care for:

1. The band. “Haylie and the” something or others. I was perfectly content to sit through halftime until their lead singer started screeching. It was like 1am karaoke but without the benefit of a four-beer buzz. So I got up and got a $5 soda. Note to Magoofs: improve the live music or drop it altogether. Better yet, drop it altogether.

2. The number of Piston fans in the crowd. A consistent plague in the era of 5,000 empty seats. But the Pistons? Seriously? You don’t want to root for the home team so you chose…the Pistons? The team that brought thuggery into vogue in the 1990s and nearly destroyed the NBA, from which the Eastern Conference has yet to recover. The team that made Rick Mahorn a star. How much do you have to hate the game to root for that team?

3. The officiating team of Rookie Ref, Violet Palmer, and Ifailedthe Wunderlich. I hope we don’t have to see them again.

Pistons

I actually don’t mind this era’s Pistons (I loathed the 90s Pistons). They come in, and other than excessive whining, they are pro’s. They share the ball, play defense, and out-execute you. Its pretty rare that they lose a game, you have to go beat them, if that makes sense.

I guess part of the reason I like them also, is I think they are probably the template if we ever are going to win it all, without getting fabulously lucky on a superstar. They are built as 8 or so really good basketball players that get being a team and playing to each other’s strengths. I have a lot of respect for them.

2 reasons we lost

1) Not that important: Brad Miller’s shooting,

2) Important: Too many fouls. Detroit had 30/36 FT, we had 10/17.
