NBA fines Theus $25,000 for comments about officiating
"Ridiculous".... apparently that’s all you need to say in order to be fined a total of $50,000. If you read the comments on that link you will see that the majority of people side with Theus and question why NBA referees are above public scrutiny.

Lame
Theus’ comments were tame. Honestly, I had no problem with the officiating on Tuesday. In L.A. Wednesday, I thought the officiating was simply awful — extremely inconsistent. The refs called every minor handcheck on the perimeter both ways but let Kaman and Camby knock Beno’s head off in the lane.
But still, Theus shouldn’t be losing $25,000 for something as mild as that.
Wow
25k for saying the officiating was “ridiculous”. Talk about an overreaction.
After last year’s traveshamockery of bad officiating, plus allegations of gambling and fixed series, Stern has evidently decided to go Draconian on anyone who says anything sideways about the refs.
As good as Stern was as a Commish ten years ago, I fear he is just that bad now. Maybe he sees Bud Selig as a role model.
Kevin Pritchard has Chuck Norris tied up in the trunk of his car.
too harsh
I think ur being too harsh on David Stern. I agree that some of his handling of the ref drama was overall bad, and that whole situation with the Sonics - Complete WTF. But he’s been fantastic at the business side of the NBA (90% of his job). The NBA has gained so much popularity worldwide. He’s doing an almost perfect job at promoting the NBA to europe and China, and progressively introducing basketball as the sport of choice in East Asia and India. I mean, donating money to build basketball courts in villages….brilliant!
Bring Chris Bosh to California!!!
Fair points
And yes, comparing him to Bud Selig is overly harsh. But his handling of the referee fiasco is a huge issue. When NBA conspiracy theories on the officiating begin to be seen as mainstream thought, I think you have a problem…and one that goes directly to the integrity of your product on the floor.
Problem is, Stern still treats it as conspiracy theory, and only appears to give lip service to fixing the problem that is the horrid officiating in the NBA right now. It’s a disservice to his paying customers to be as dismissive of the problem as he has been, IMO.
Kevin Pritchard has Chuck Norris tied up in the trunk of his car.
I think it started largely out
of the Jake O’Donnell/Clyde Drexler conflict myself. Stern chose the single worst way to handle that then, and the NBA is paying for it now.

Exactly my thinking as well
Add to that it was the Kings, the center of the recent controversy, that was denigrating the refs. Reggie was guaranteed to get fined just because of the team he’s coaching.
NBA Officiating
I thought the officiating in the Detroit game was absolutely inconsistent, piss-poor, terrible, horrific, biased, worthless and idiotic. Is that enough adjectives? I could come up with more.
The NBA’s officiating in general is far and away the worst of the major professional sports. The NBA’s absolute lack of transparency and utter lack of seriousness in addressing an issue that’s been ongoing for over 20 years is a constant stain on the league. I watch NBA basketball in spite of the nauseatingly incompetent, and often willingly biased officiating.
Levying RIDICULOUS fines does not make the officiating better and does not help the image of the league in any way. David Stern and his minions can kiss my ass.

I am used to bad officiating.
Please though can we have some consistency on the calls. As long you consistently call shitty fouls the players will adjust, no need to ruin the flow of a game.
There now I've met the 75 word count. -pookeyguru
That's pretty much my issue mo
They ruin the flow of games. Or, like the case about 3 1/2 years ago (2005) in that terrible call vs Dallas right before Webber was traded, one bad call changed the entire complexion of the game because of WHEN it was called.

Better be careful Carl
I hear Stern is drafting legislation that will allow him to fine fans for derogatory remarks about the refs. It’s all a part of creating a new revenue stream for the NBA. ;-)
Oh please, oh please, oh please
I would love nothing more than for David Stern to attack his own customers about the league’s obvious officiating inadequacies. That might actually force them to fix them problem.

heh... you sure about that?
Stern: “Alright pookey, you pay this fine, we forget the whole thing.”
PG: “Eff you, sternum.”
Stern: “Heh, real original. Okay, fine. If that’s how you feel. But, you realize you can never see Kevin Martin again, right?”
PG: “…”
Stern: “Pookey?”
PG: “Where do I sign?”
It’s like losing half your money in the divorce to keep custody of the kids. Rough, but worth it. The NBA’s got a monopoly on our souls… they can do whatever they want.

Wonder what kind of fines I'd get for the mean spirited things that I say?
Theus should just send the NBA a check for $100,000 with a note attached saying “FUCK YOU!”

this is why i was
formerly “NBA officials are on the take”. now i have to be Cynema because all of my blog sites are linked and NFL and MLB sites could care less about the NBA. but god forbid you say the officiating sucks in the NBA. you never hear about an official getting fined, or disciplined. david stern is a master at marketing the NBA but he sucks when it comes to the officials. the NBA is fixed, why do you think they don’t actually pull the ping-pong balls in public.

I assume they don't pull the ping-pong balls in public
Because it’s a tedious endeavour.
Kevin Pritchard has Chuck Norris tied up in the trunk of his car.
Yeah, grabbing those ping-pong balls is like rebounding
and we all know what a terrible rebounder Stern is.
Yeah Cynema I agree with Otis
I’m not really sure how pulling the ping pong balls publicly or privately makes a difference. People still think the draft is rigged.
