I voted no
Which in no way means that I want Theus fired. It just means that through 92 regular season games, the assist/turnover ratio for Theus’ team is absolutely abysmal. If that is a function of his personnel, then he needs to adapt his system(?) to his players. If it is a function of his system(?), then he needs to change it (or create it, whatever the case may be).
Turnovers on any given night are a player’s problem. Consistent trouble over 92 nights is a coach’s problem. That said, I would rather see Theus fix the problem then get the heave-ho.

I agree
I also voted no, for the reasons you stated and the defensive and offensive problems.
As for firing, I say just let him play out this season, barring a complete team meltdown or something and go from there. He’ll have served his purpose as a bridge coach(keeping things positive while we rebuild). We’ll be in a good position(a team full of promising youth and 2 1st round draft picks) to go after the quality HC that can orchestrate our run at a title.

No
Just because of his down-the-stretch personnel decisions in the past couple of games. Why is he suddenly in love with Quincy Douby?

Quincy can shoot!
He just hasn’t been given the chance. He hasn’t had the opportunity to play enough to get into a groove and build his confidence. He hits a game winner and suddenly his confidence skyrockets. However, after missing two I think Theus needs to look elsewhere in crunch time.

He can shoot
And he’s a good on-ball defender. But since he hasn’t been able to play all season, he doesn’t belong on the floor down the stretch in a close game.
Trying to build one player’s confidence at the expense of two games is just plain stupid.

who would you suggest?
We have no other true shooters not limping around in suits right now.
Not a single other active player is instinctively a ‘shooter’, which both of those situation called for.

BB
Brown is our best 3pt shooter right now, and he was 3 for 5 for the game. Hawes is our second best 3pt shooter and our best defender, and he sat on the bench.

Agree about Hawes being the 2nd best 3 pt shooter
I think Salmons, and Brown, are the 2 best defenders on this team right now.

I haven't see enough Of BobbyB
for long enough to know whether his 3 pt shooting is reliable, Reggie probably feels the same.
Salmons is clearly our best defender by a long shot.
Hawes has been blocking shots but tends to clear the basket so he can get a CHANCE to block. I’d rather have him hold his position more, just a bit of the best part of MM game.
Still not sure about BBs defense, a lot of rookie mistakes.

I think Hawes being active and athletic up to a point
is somewhat covering up the fact that Spencer is not a quality low post defender which this team really needs badly. That will come with Spencer I think though. He just needs time to grow. Of all the players on this roster, Spencer is one of the few I’m not worried about in any fashion (outside of his knee trouble).

I would suggest
Hawes. Or Brown. Or BJax.
Hawes for defense, rebounding and post play, Brown for shooting and ball handling, BJax for shooting, ball handling, and flat out experience.
There were plenty of other options available.

My question exactly
I know it sounds childish and bazaar, but could it be that Theus is reacting to Joe’s comment of not burying the rookies on the bench. They insisted he play Douby last year and this year Joe calls him out again. Maybe, Theus just said to hell with it. If you want me to play the rookies, here they are.

Also voted No
But I also don’t want to see him fired. Losing close games consistently, or letting a safe lead slide to make it a close game, is the coach’s fault when it happens this often.

I voted yes
Because I took a “No” vote to mean that Theus should be fired. A team playing this many young guys is not going to win a lot of games. And it’s going to get worse over the next week.
There are areas where improvement can be expected. The team DOES have the capability of turning the ball over less and CAN do a better job defending the three point line. I reserve the right to change my position when the team is either 4-12 or 5-11 in the next week.

He should be phased out after the season.

It's okay...for now.
For this incarnation of the Kings, Theus is a good “first wife (coach).” He gets a bad team to overachieve, relates well to the players, and has given the kids opportunities to learn and prove themselves.
While nothing would make me happier than to see a cohesive system emerge, I suspect that when this team begins to display the talent many of us believe it is capable of he’ll be out the door. Which, if he has still failed to that point to put his stamp on the team is appropriate. However, I think firing him during this season would be a poor choice. Right now we need stability more than anything else.

First wife(coach)
yeah, that’s it exactly.

I'm not approving.
First I want to credit Theus as he has, as we have all noted, been able to get our Kings team to overachieve during his tenure here. We were decimated by injuries last year, long stretches with out Martin, Artest, Miller, and Bibby, four out of our starting 5(and arguably the problem last year was also that we didn’t have a 4, we had lobster, underdeveloped SHawes, and the kennel). But watching the games I felt better about our team for some reason than I do lately, and I think this was because the veterans had better spacing.
What I mean by this is that our spacing on the floor is atrocious. IT’S ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. And this is on a coach. How many times, this year, already have we seen Beno run into traffic just as another player, trying to help the situation mind you, comes closer to him instead of backing away, which then brings his defensive player to trouble Beno further. Except Beno isn’t the only one who’s done this as ball handler, it’s been Martin early, Salmons when he holds onto the ball too long, even Miller occasionally.
The other argument is that we’re playing a lot of rookies and this is not really Theus’ fault, he’s doing the best he can with the best players. And already this year we’ve been without B-Rad for 5, Speed-Mart for four(?), and Cisco for the season so far. That’s significant injuries, or time away, from three of our first 6, arguably. But that said we need to beat a Suns team without Nash, home-town Barnes, & Barbosa(in other words NO POINT GUARD). We absolutely need to be beating a struggling Spurs team without Parker & Ginobilli(again NO FUCKING POINT GUARD). And if Reggie can’t impose his will on those teams with a group of guys he should have wrestled into his “high c-screen elbow turnover” system, I begin to doubt the rest of the year.
But I’d agree too that we need stability for the rest of the year, regardless of if we become a lottery team or a potential playoff dream. For the rest of the season we’re better with him than without him. Here’s hoping he can teach the personnel where they’re actually supposed to be on the hard wood.
If yr not happy with the results, lower yr expectations.

I LOL'd
Listening to the Rise Guys this morning, most fans seemed very concerned with Joe Maloof going public with what they felt should have been a private conversation.
I didn’t LOL because I disagree necessarily, but I have a hard time feeling bad for Theus, considering his usage of the local media in a very similar fashion last season.

That's a fair argument Otis about what goes around comes around
As far as why II voted yes for 3 reasons:
A) I don’t throw under a coach under the bus after 10 games, with or without a complete team
B) Ron Artest throws a monkey wrench into any team’s discipline
C) Reggie doesn’t have a playoff team yet

I can't approve
of this team losing at Minnesota, or dropping two at home to depleted Phoenix and San Antonio teams. I can’t approve of the job that Reggie is doing right now. That does not mean that I think that he should be fired. But it does mean that he needs to do better if he is to be around next year.
There was another poll question that asked about Reggie’s firing. This one asks whether or not we appove of the job that he is doing. I don’t approve.

The thing is
When you hire a lesser name coach, you have to live with certain things. I don’t think Phil Jackson would be questioned if this team was performing the same way under him. Would it perform the same way? Who knows. But Phil would be given latitude to do what he wanted for how many years he wanted to do it. The Maloofs want Phil Jackson. But they aren’t smart enough to remember how Phil got his start. or why he got it.

Certainly true
But word is Reggie really sold himself hard to get this position. I’d be interested to have sat in on those interviews. Reggie is a confident cat, I’m sure he convinced management he would have a short learning curve.

Or he convinced the Maloofs of that
That’s the only reason I think that Petrie had something to do with Joe’s interview on Friday is somewhat plausible. It doesn’t feel that way, but I can’t rule that out. When I know it’s true, it will make me wonder why the Maloof’s didn’t listen to Petrie’s gut and hire Shaw on instead.

Petrie should write a book
After he retires. The voyeuristic side of me would love to hear about the ins and outs of the last ten years inside of Kings management.
And we would have stuff to talk about for three or four offseasons. :)

not the Mel Brooks version. That version would be Phil Jackson.
