Graphing the Late Game Turnovers
All these fourth quarter turnovers got me in the mood to diagram the last four games. Go check it out, if you like car wrecks and expired milk.

Interesting points
I thought it was interesting how you showed the progression of total possessions by showing where the turnovers actually occurred during the course of the game. I’ve never seen that before. You truly are the true blue triple threat. (Ballhype,StR,Fanhouse)

Well written but...
Besides the Detroit game… I didnt see much evidence of Ziller’s thesis – that the Kings lack focus in the fourth quarter. A better point should be that they lack focus in every quarter – which is what he said, but he confused it with that “closing out” argument.
tighten it up.

Phoenix game?
11 in the 4th and OT.
The S.A. game was the only one of the four where the team’s turnovers were worse earlier in the game. But two of the ones in the fourth were really late, and crushing.

You're much nicer than I am
Or far more tolerant at the very least.

Re: Pheonix Game
Seems to me – and Im just using your charts for reference – that the entire game was rife with turnovers, with very little difference between the halves. Maybe its me, but your charts don’t really convey much difference.

Turnovers are the players fault
almost all the time. The exceptions are on called plays badly set up.
Shooters don’t turn the ball over much, dribblers do. Too many guys on this roster who are dribblers trying to create thier own shot – rather than shooters.

I'd love to see an analysis of how the turnovers occurred
Were they on passes? On lost dribbles? Blocks? Violations?
And compare that to teams who rarely turn it over.

Seems to me
Without doing a study, it looks to me that most of the turnovers have been on bad passes. Beno gets a lot by throwing where he thinks a guy will be and isn’t. The young guys get them by throwing to Gavin in the front row. Salmons is the exception and tends to get them by dribbling into crowds. And Mikki gets them by putting lotion on his hands during timeouts.

I take exception to the MIkki comment
He gets them every time he screws his hands on.

Whenever I see Mikki drop a pass
I think of the kid from “Little Giants” who can never catch a pass, staring at his hands and saying: “Why do you do this to me, fellas? I cut your nails, wash you, put gloves on you when you’re cold…”
Maybe we should start throwing toilet paper for him to ease him into the concept of catching and eventually work him up to basketballs. Or we could just slather his hands in stick-um. Either one works for me.

I concede
Section214 has outfunnied me at least 5 to 1 here. You know how the Kings are going to play New Orleans on the road tomorrow? Picture me as the Kings and Section214 as New Orleans. I’ll be lucky not to lose by 20.

Not indepth analysis
But, I can tell you that 41% of the turnovers before tonights game were charged to Beno, Salmon, & Hawes. Now, I haven’t charted them but my gut feeling is that the majority came from dribble penetration into the paint and trying to pass in the painted area. Of course, we’ve seen some weak passes get picked off , and Beno getting stripped off the dribble for a breakaway. But, I’d guess that trying to force the play inside the painted area, is were the majority happen.
