Kind Words for Thompson
"Several rookies have been impressive (Mayo, Rose, Beasley, Gasol), but the one I have been most impressed with is Jason Thompson. When the Kings took Thompson with the 12th pick, I was ready to engrave his name on the 2008 Draft Bust Award right then and there. But Thompson has been solid and, at times, spectacular. He is averaging 11.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in 25.6 minutes, and has shown the ability to swing between both forward positions. He may not turn out to be a star like Rose or Beasley, but the Kings may have found themselves a starting forward for the next decade." - Chris Mannix

I find it interesting
That everyone else simply talked about Rose.

The only thing I disagree with is the point about being a star
Or more accurately that he won’t be one like Beasley will be. Beasley has plenty of flaws in his game, and may never improve upon them.
On the other hand Thompson has only been put in difficult situations that few rookies thrive in. And he’s thrived. That’s why I think he’ll be a very important player for the Kings in the next decade.

One step at a time
I’m content to have people start to regard his pick as a very good pick after 11 games as opposed to “the 2008 Draft Bust Award.” At this rate he’ll be the steal of the draft by the all-star break.

the question this brings to mind is...
…if you are good enough to be a team to slot you as the starting PF for a decade, but you are not a star, who does that make you?
The next Buck Williams? The next Horace Grant? The next Rasheed Wallace? Anyone?

Sheed was a star
A very viable star at that. The problem with Sheed is that he NEVER cares about his own stats or glory seemingly.

I can live with JT being a Buck Williams clone (even though I don't think he is)
as far as production. Williams was good for a very long time.

national writers love rookies
Just being included in that shortlist of future stars does Thompson a huge compliment. If Thompson averages 12 and 7 with decent defense he is a good investment, if he improves steadily from there for the next few years, he is an all-star.
I think an apt comparison could be David West, who was a good, somewhat (and still is somewhat)nationally unheralded player out of Xavier, but steadily improved his first few years and was named an all-star last year.

That is a nice comparison
Solid mid-range shooter, rebounder, and can swing between 3 and 4, although JT probably leans more to the 4.

I'd like to see both he and Hawes
do a better job holding thier position down low rather than stepping aside and trying to block shots.
Blocks are nice on the stat line but. . . .
