Thoughts on Rotation: Who Should Play?

Now, even though this is after a pretty big win (both for my psyche and the teams,) just remember my emotions are entirely in check. I thought this would be a proper time to discuss the rotation for the rest of the year.

My theory:

Jason needs to start. Sorry Mikki, but these two point, one rebound games are less than inspiring. Sure Mikki, maybe you get Shelden minutes. Keep him at 15-20 a game because at times, you just need a veteran in there. It is also nice to have his hustle and energy. But Jason has double what Mikki has. And frankly, I don't cringe when he goes in the post.

Greene needs minutes as well. I don't know where they come from, but maybe use him as THE primary John Salmons backup, and Cisco as the primary Kevin backup as well as him spelling Beno here and there.

So, here we go.

C- Miller, 25-30 on any given night. Hawes, 25-30 on any given night. Mikki maybe gets a few minutes here when we go small. NO SHELDEN.
PF- Thompson, 25-30 oagn, Hawes 5-10 alongside Miller, again, Mikki 5-10. NO KT and NO SHELDEN. Maybe Donte against the Warriors. but HEY
SF- Salmons, 30-40 minutes oagn, Donte gets 10-20 depending on how he plays, Cisco, 5-10 alongside Kevin
SG- Kevin, 35 at least depending on his defense, so 35-40, which leaves Cisco at about 10-15 here.
PG- Beno, 30-40 oagn, again either Brown or Jackson 10-15, and Cisco alongside Kevin and Salmons or Kevin and Donte for about 5-10.

I know the minutes don't mathematically work out correctly, which is why I arranged this so loosely.

Thoughts? BTW this plan gives Cisco about 25 minutes a game minimum, so I think that is just about right.

Hopefully cut a little from Beno

when Brown shows he is good enough to play 15.

Good rotation

I like JT over MM, eventhough the obvious experience factor. I think JT doesn’t hurt the team as much as MM doesn’t help the team enough. JT’s the obvious talent and production winner in that match up. I hope that makes sense…

This is likely BM’s last year as a starter for the Kings, so Hawes would likely see an increase over the year. It appears Hawes is more than capable as a 4 at times…

Kings could be very athletic when Martin/Salmons/Green are on the floor. I like Cisco as the 1st guard off the bench. Green is very intriguing and worthy of extended looks like last night. B Brown gets enough time now, as Beno’s clearly the better player now. Brown could be good fairly soon, though. I like his future.

You have to keep BMiller above 30 minutes

for a number of reasons: stability, offensive distribution, Bball IQ, tradability if you want to do that next year.

Mikki must go fairly soon (sorry Mikki!) to clear out some minutes. Sheldon/Greene can pick up the scraps left at PF, or even Kenny (sigh).

PG: Beno 30, BobbyJ 9, BobbyB 9
SG: KM 35. Cisco 10, BobbyJ 3
SF: Salmons 35, Cisco 10, Greene 3
PF: JT 30, Hawes 10, Greene 8
C: Miller 32, Hawes 16

with Donte’ getting a few more minutes here and there as possible.
That’s still going 10 deep, hard as that can be, but I don’t know where you find more minutes for Donte’ or BobbyB(?)

Oh, how the mighty (thin) MM has fallen

No minutes for the Mighty Mikki. Better that way, anyway.

I agree about Mikki

I think they can start Shock alongside Miller, bring Hawes and Williams in to replace them. Williams is undersized but is a tough rebounder and defender and will compliment Hawes well. They dont play Shelden enough.

I think we are deep enough to play 2 squads nearly separate, and finish the game with whoever is playing best. No set minutes, although I think Miller’s should be limited more than Hawes.

C: Miller, Hawes
PF: Thompson, Williams
SF: Salmons, Greene
SG: Martin, Garcia
PG: Udrih, Brown

Jackson, Douby, Moore are to be used sparingly or in case of injury. Thomas provides a few extra fouls against big teams.

I've been thinking about that 'two teams'

and I know some teams try to do it.

But its hard – and some of the 2nd teamer should get more minutes than others…..
and what about BobbyJ?

I know its the coach’s job to divide minutes but Reggie is still pretty green.
Its a tough formula already – and Petrie would be doing Reggie a big favor by subtracting Mikki from it.

Match ups

The NBA is a game of match ups. Greene got the start because Peja isn’t a player that can create his shot off of the dribble. Therefore, Greene had a good chance to stay with him on defense. Plus the Kings we’re desperate for a spot up shooter who could hit the 3.

Even with Martin & Garcia not expected back till late next week, I don’t expect Greene to be the new starter at the 3. Although as badly as we got burned by Hill & Finley with JT at the 3, Theus may give up and play Greene at the 3 over JT.

With the Blazers next, I like Salmons at the 2 defending Roy, so Greene could get his second start. Also, look to see Shelden get some time when Miller gets into foul trouble. Shelden has looked good against the real bigs like Oden and Priszilla. And, I like the match up of Hawse or JT on Aldridge. If we can cantain Roy and Aldridge, we can beat the Blazers who are 3-5 on the road..

BoJax is great for 10-15 minutes

but not every game. He is useful when we have inuries, which is nearly constant, it seems. But w/ everyone healthy Jackson is still extra, unless you need help some of the premier point or 2 guards defensively for a few minutes.

Hey, after that laker game, maybe BBrown should start and Beno can think about it on the bench.
