Should the Kings inquire about Marbury?
Expiring contract who could help for this year? I don't know enough about Beno but I am not impressed so far Marbury would help this year but I don't think he is a long term answer. So while it would add a few wins this year, I think the Knicks can keep him.
I don't think the Knicks will play Marbury this year and may release him, I don't know how much it would cost a team to pick him up. Is there a capologist here?

For the love of God no. Starbury would not help at all. Plus we don’t need him showing Spence what a “Truck Party” is.

Do Want
The Beno contract was a huge mistake.
At least we would get some entertainment with Marbury.

No deal to be had
I think that the Knicks would waive Marbury and eat the $20+ million that he is due this year, as opposed to trading for (say) Miller and K9(woof!), which would give them more luxury tax problems next year.

Beno had two bad games and one OK game
and everyone is ready to declare his signing as a big mistake. Can we just give these guys some time to work things out? The pessimism is a little too much lately. We don’t have that great of team and this year is all about building for the future and playing hard. At least wait until they get home from a horrible starting road trip to pass some judgement. Why are some people panicking after 3 games?
Personally, all I want to see if some progress from our young guys, and a lot of effort from the team. What if our record gets bad? We were not suppose to do much this year. Let’s enjoy the positives and let’s support this team, win or lose

Don't we need a win
before we can use the phrase “win or lose?”
Just kidding. The wins don’t mean near as much to me as the development of our youth.

I knew you were a brilliant guy
But that last line? Just not fair sir! You should only get so much brilliance in a day.

I agree with Eduardo
Hence I won’t say anymore. (You really don’t want to see my rant on Starbury. You really, really, don’t want to see it.)

Beno
You’re all correct. And all wrong. I, on the other hand, offer no solutions whatsoever.
Marbury’s got talent, and we could get him for nothing, the Knicks would end up paying him off. But still, who the hell would want him around the youngsters?
And the Kings overpaid for Beno, simple as that. He’s a good player, but he’s not a starting NBA point guard. I think he’s going to have decent numbers by virtue of one-pass assists to Martin, and easy mid-range jumpers that he’ll hit when Kevin passes out of double teams. I could get six dimes a night on this team, if coach had just put me in back in the ’82…

If this team is going to run, Beno isn’t your starter, simple as that. They could have had him for a third less, or just lost him, and that wouldn’t have been the end of the world.
“You there! Can you dribble a basketball 50 feet and then pass it to Kevin Martin, and not completely embarass yourself on defense? Here’s 80 grand, have a nice season.”
Man, I’d be all over that.

I'll settle for that.
I’m astounded anyone thought I had a premise. I was all over the place.

More specifically, then
I disagree with the premise that someone for 80K could walk onto a NBA team, and that’s a, and this is b, which is that Beno is overpaid because he’s a backup and can’t get into the running game. 3 games isn’t going to prove either of those statements.
So i guess, that’s the premise. Unless it was all a joke, and I do not pass go or collect 200$.

Yep
And Kevin had two poor games and one good game. Should we be looking at alternatives at the 2?
Funny, whoever the dumbass is that does the KHTK talk show on 1140 on Sunday afternoons is pretty much calling Kevin a bust as a “franchise” player after 3 games. Good to see the talent on the weekends is as of high quality as workweek drive time.
Kevin Pritchard has Chuck Norris tied up in the trunk of his car.

And you aren't a strong supporter of the belief that Kevin is the end all be all to the Kings problesm
I’m a huge Kevin fan, and believe what he’s achieved has been tremendous. But I’m not sure he can ever become something better than the 2nd best player on a 50 win team, and that’s a bit a ways away. Still, throwing the guy off the bus after 3 games in far less than ideal circumstances isn’t very intelligent. Which is exactly what you get when you call into KHTK.

franchise players don't get paid 10 mill a year
Kevin Martin is not a franchise player. Kevin Martin is a phenomenal shooting guard, one whom I would replace with only a few guys in the League, and those being utterly obvious.

Marbury ftw!
Beno was a bad signing, but also the only available PG at the time as far as I know. If Marbury could accept a cheap 2 year deal, it would be a great addition.

I prefer a young player like Shaun Livingston or a draft
by Matenja on Nov 3, 2008 6:38 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
That's really the gist of it
The Kings are going to draft high, and barring an Oden-type talent, we’re going to pull a pretty decent PG next summer. I’m not expecting Chris Paul, but there is a player out there who will relegate Beno to backup status.

RR or Jennings are well
these players are our dreams guys. we need young and talent people, not players like Marbury.
well, you can vote your three best player of the last week of the kings in http://matenja.blogspot.com/2008/11/king-of-week-i.html

marbury?
hell, why don’t we get steve francis too. why don’t we just bring back the blazers of the 90s and really start a great team. why would we even ask this question? is marbury really going to win a championship FOR the kings? play the young guys, see who fits and who doesn’t, suck for another year or two, accumulate good draft picks and set yourself up for a long prosperous future. we get two first rounders next year so let’s use them. also, let’s give beno a break. we knew what we had when we signed him, he will be fine. is a “B” point guard, which is ok with me. this team has larger problems, like:
1. Martin says he is going to be the leader, but hasn’t proven that he is.
2. Mikki Moore, as nice of a role player as he is, hurts us against the starting 4 on the other team, so when Miller gets back, either start Miller/Thompson at the #4 and Miller/Hawes at the #5.
3. Theus. Plain and simple, this team doesn’t play defense and that is the coach. Remember Adelman “I teach defense but the team doesn’t listen”? This is what is happening again. We don’t have individual defensive stoppers so the team defense will be very important. that is a coaching issue. what defensive schemes to run, who is guarding who, when to switch, etc.
let’s focus on some of these and worry less about bringing in overrated, overpaid talent.

I would be willing to read Pook's rant even if I didn't understand it
but in my view it would be a mistake of epic proportions like hoping that Duane Causewell was ever going to turn into a good player. Actually, it would be worse. I do not regret the Artest trade at all, but we need a strong leader on this team and while I’m willing to admit maybe I’m just not seeing it I don’t think we have that player yet. I don’t think it takes anything away from Kevin’s game to say he’s not our franchise player. He should be a multi year allstar but he’s not a franchise player.

After watching the Kings live last night
they need to do something at the pg spot. Beno would be a good back up but he is not going to take the team anywhere. He is a turnover machine, does not find the open man and plays no defense
by Beagle12 on Nov 4, 2008 4:31 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
That's an over-reaction I think
The whole team didn’t do much last night outside of Shock & Hawes and Martin.
