Yet another reason to tune that crappile of a station out

The Rise Guys weren’t perfect, and neither was FP, but shit, what do you want? 1140, Mike Remy or not, and I hadn’t realized he was let go last February, clearly doesn’t understand the problems it has with the market.

Interesting

FP wasn’t great exactly, but he did add a bit of spark to that program. It wasn’t enough to get me to listen much, other than during commercial breaks on KNBR (that’s a station that knows how to do a morning show).

Desperate acts as desperate does don't it Otis?

Funniest part of the story

Is what TZ quoted above. FP is a level above most egomaniacs…he’s defiantly tied to his own opinion, evidence bedamned.

That made him entertaining and sometimes unlistenable.

I love your quotables btw

Yeah, the funniest part of that statement is FP’s self serving statement. But I’m ignoring it based on the larger argument that 1140 is a flawed terrible sports station.

A case of two things being equally true, yes?

Thank

god for ESPN 1320 …. I love Koz and Carmichael Dave, but the rest of the station is crap now. Give me Colin Cowherd over the Rise Guys every day of the week, thank you.

Colin Cowherd sucks too

Much of talk radio is crap. In my opinion anyway.

Yeah he can suck sometimes ...

but he’s way better than the Rise Guys. The one guy I like who I think is a little underrated as a radio host is Eric Kuselias. But yeah, I agree, most of talk radio is crap now a days.

Anything is better than Peaches :-)

I like Koz's showgrams sometimes

But I would never bother to go out of my way to listen to him.

they

need an hour a day about how bad Peaches sucks ….. I’d listen to that.

YES

I agree completely.

Would dropping Peaches from Sportsline and replacing him with Jason Ross make you listen more?

I always find Sportsline more enjoyable with the Ross/Lamb combo for some reason. Maybe it’s the lowered levels of douchebaggery the show has when Peaches is on the road.

Good Gravy

Cowherd is awful. I listen to him from 7:28 to 7:35 when he does his “Spanning the Globe” segment, but otherwise he’s unbearable.

I like The Rise Guys

I always felt that FP was the weakest link, but that was just a personal opinion.

Granted, there are segments and bits of their show that don’t work, but not all of my posts are gems, either. They do provide a regular forum for Amick and Reynolds, who always seem to bring their best game to the show. Kreidler is a regular visitor, and lest we forget this whole Joe Maloof thing eminated from The Rise Guys show.

And I can take an hour stright of The Rise Guys. Cowherd wears out his welcome with me after about 20 minutes. Again, that’s just personal preference.

Adieu, FP.

So why then was FP fired?

Was it simply the economy? People are being laid off where I work almost daily. They’re dropping like flies. I may be next.

Or is this directly related to the Joe Maloof interview? Did FP say something that jeopardized the station’s relationship with the Kings?

by KingsFan on Nov 22, 2008 2:04 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Oh well...

I only really listen to the Mike Omeara show and Carmichael Dave show.

I hadn’t heard about Remy’s firing. Isn’t he Phantom anyways?

No Phantom is Whitey's brother

I think his first name is Mark or something like that.

I think we're all ignoring the bigger storyline here

The Rise Guys obviously knew FP’s days were numbered so they brought in TZ to audition for his spot a few weeks ago.

One would only hope. If for only TZ’s sake.

Never been

that big of the Rise Guys. Don’t hate em though. I rarely listen to the radio in the early morning anyways. I’m a much bigger fan of KNBR. The Razor and Mr. T > Grant’s BS. The only shows I listen to on KHTK is Koz’s showgram and Dave’s show. The station has always been the dumb hick uncle compared to KNBR.

See ya FP

I know FP can be an opinionated twit sometimes, but the show needs a third person. If it’s the economy, then KHTK won’t bring anyone in. Anyone taking bets on how long the Rise Guys will stay a duet?
As for Peaches, he isn’t all bad. Mostly, but not all.
Anyone remember who were they guys before FP? I seem to recall that the previous guy went back to the Bay Area. Who was before that?

by jacquetbg on Nov 22, 2008 2:39 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Justin Case

And it was more comedy than sports. I thought it was funny back then and haven’t listened much since.

Not the only game in town anymore

1140 used to be the only game in town but 680 has some really good sports and now the 1320 ESPN affiliate has a lot of good shows too. 1140 still has RANT Napier, but his act is getting old flaming callers for being naive. Ever since they brought that moron Lamb on the show, the quality has really diminished. I still listen occasionally to and from work, but nothing that would keep me listening once I left my car. When they start talking Nascar or WNBA, I just change the channel. More choices on Sirius/XM too, so the monopoly for sports talk has disappeared. Sure they carry the Kings games, but would you rather listen to a game or watch it. Gary Gerald is the best announcer on the station other than Rant, and Koz is a distant 3rd. Can’t see missing F.P. much, because he wasn’t very mature and had a very nasty streak that turned me off. Once the story broke about his steroid use, I was just about sick of his excuse making and defense of POS’s like Barry Bonds. Better to just go with Whitey and Phantom, not that they are anything special either. But at least they have me listening to them in the morning and it keeps my dial on the station till I get home….

I would love to hear FP's real take on the whole thing

Most of the post dissing FP on here sound like they come from you guys who never played in a sports league unless it said fantasy in front of it. Whitey and Phantom are good and I was disappointed when Kevin the Ratt left, and I wasn’t sure how they were going to replace him, and then they brought in FP and it seemed to make the show work. I turned on the radio after the holiday and heard JG Preston (I think that is who took his place) and he really makes talk radio unbareable. FP brought a strong opinion, scored some good guest spots, and his out burst were down right hilarious sometimes. I still listen, but it just isn’t as entertaining anymore. Oh well, GO KINGS!

by Dizm29 on Dec 3, 2008 7:48 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Mea no culpa...

I’m quite capable of making talk radio unbearable, but it wasn’t I who took F.P.’s place…
