Gambling is safer than my 401k

The +12 seems really high, I’ll take that. The over under is at 204.5; if the Kings have any chance of winning, they’ll need the over. If this game stays under that, we’ll have a tough time.

Here’s hoping we get a a ’Cisco siting tonight

We've got to love our guy.

It’s in the rules.

Section 13, Paragraph 8, line a of the NBA Rulebook: Blazer fans must love Greg Oden.

Although, Stern might be making it a rule that everyone has to love Greg Oden. Like the rule that says that e veryone has to love LeBron James. But at least James is living up to the hype. Still to early to tell about Oden. He’s still a rookie. :p

If they really loved Oden

They wouldn’t worship the perspiration on his jersey like they do. This christening of Oden as the messiah just fosters unrealistic expectations of dominance. And Oden isn’t ready to dominate yet.

I like Oden a lot. He’s genuinely a good person and very charismatic. I wish him all the success. I don’t, however, envy the amount of fan pressure on his shoulders. Blazer fans should respect his progress, even if it’s slow. I’ve seen some who were on the edge of suicide when Oden got injured or had a bad game, and were having fanboy orgasms every time he had a good game. That’s got to be unhealthy.

by Scirocco on Nov 24, 2008 6:53 PM PST up reply actions

He definitely has a lot of pressure from fans to do well.

Patience is the key. If you expect Oden to be a messiah-like figure now, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. In a few years, perhaps, but people in general have little patience. They’ll clamour to trade him if he has a few bad games. (sigh).

He's probably

somwhere in between.

Here is an interesting question for everyone; would you trade Kevin Martin for Oden (and an expiring contact to make the numbers work)? Its pretty much a question of who you think will be better in the big picture.

Wait....Why is everybody clapping? Everyone around me is clapping.... I guess I should be clapping too... GO LAKERS!!! I hate living in So Cal

by 27freethrows on Nov 24, 2008 6:45 PM PST up reply actions

From the Blazers side no.

Martin is awesome. But, Oden gives you the chance (notice I said the chance) at a dynasty or at least a ring. Martin could very well play a big role in championship, but there are more players able to do what he does than what Oden might be able to do.

The Blazers have a player that does essentially the same thing Martin does. I won’t argue which is better. But Roy combined with Oden, and LMA (who also needs some developing, just not as much as Oden) give you a better shot at a championship than Martin, Roy and LMA.

I’d love to see what Kings fans say.

As a Kings fan I would do it

Oden could be dominant in a few years. Martin at best is the second option next to a superstar.

But pairing Oden with Martin? Now THAT would be nasty!

It's all about health issues for me

Dominant center > all star SG any day. Unless the SG is MJ. But I don’t think I’d make the trade today, still too many questions about Oldone’s wheels.

Good Question

but I would take Martin. He is a known and improving quantity. At this point, Oden is neither (he hasn’t played enough show consistent improvement). It’s almost impossible to make a big picture prediction with Oden right now.

While my reasoning may not have any substantiated evidence, I am almost convinced that Oden is going to be an injury case for his entire career. I just can’t get myself to believe that a person who right leg is an inch longer than his left can consistently play in the NBA injury-free.

A possibility, yes...

But not near as likely. Honestly, I wish good health upon both of them (Oden just seems like a cool guy), but there is something about him that just screams “injury prone”. I hope I’m wrong.

Lotsa dudes have one leg longer

And none if his injuries are related to that… and none of his injuries related to each other.

I understand people being skeptical, but until now none of the injuries were anything but unluckiness, not a body betraying him (like what happens to Yao each year with his feet that can’t handle his weight).

If Greg Oden wasn’t GREG ODEN, no one would know one leg is a smidgeon longer. It won’t be a problem, since it is common and solved with a simple insert in his shoe.

I personally believe that if Oden didn’t have extra skin on his face (which gives the appearance of wrinkles) people wouldn’t worry he was so injury prone even before the micro.

Only time will tell of course.

I agree with everything you said. Oden’s injuries are not chronic, first was the wrist, then the knee, then the ankle. It’s probably just bad luck.

by Scirocco on Nov 24, 2008 7:06 PM PST up reply actions

Pardon...

What were his injuries thus far? The microfracture and ankle right? I’m not saying that those injuries were in any way caused by the difference in leg length, but how can you conclusively say that they were not?

My grandpa has that condition

He wears othotic shoes and runs marathons. He’s 83.

I’m worried about him as well, but not that pessimistic. It’s more the way he throws himself around, and doesn’t look to be in shape. That out of shapeness will lead to injuries.

As long as they like their role

And don’t want (or can’t) be the top dogg elsewhere, the Blazers can and will pay them more than anyone.

Remember, Paul Allen is the owner, the guy they invented the luxury tax for.

If the Blazers like the player and the player wants to be a Blazer, they’ll get paid and be happy.

Roy, LMA, Oden, Rudy are locks for the longterm. The rest will be on a case by case basis… but, the normal “how do we keep ’em” problem doesn’t relate to Portland because of their willingness to spend as much as they need to.

And the cap won't limit our ability to add another player

next year for somewhere around 20 mill (well up to that amount). I’m hoping a team realizes their star isn’t going to resign, decides for rebuilding, then trades us their star for cap relief and some youngsters. That said, they could also just trade LBJ to LA for Odom. EEEEEWWWWWW, we can all agree that the world would need to implode to restore justice if that happened.

Salmons. I really can’t see how any coach in the NBA would draw up a play to go like that. John just went Rambo, as usual, and there went the game. Oh well, Cisco’s coming back soon, right? And Martin? We just played a good team down to the wire without 2 of our best players. Certainly, this has to be encouraging on some level.
