You're right
Right now, in my opinion, he’s more of a contribution here than Beasley is in Miami. They’re still waiting for him to get 10 boards in a game.

Would much rather have JT than Beasley
So would you rather be Sacramento in the position to draft JT, and get heavily criticized, or MIami, for being even more criticized for that.

Well I don't live in Miami...
And getting JT where Sac got him was a steal, compared to getting drafted late 1st round. I choose Sac. They criticized us, even if the Warriors wanted him at #14.

I don't care
But I’m fully happy with JT, and am very glad we didn’t get Beasley. That is not an usual thing to say about a 12th & 2nd overall pick in the same draft.

Easy
With the few outlying FRANCHISE PLAYER exceptions (James, Howard, etc), you almost always want the late-round steal over the big name guy, if for nothing else than because they’re lower on the rookie scale. Aside from that, these are the types of players that have a chip on their shoulders (e.g. Arenas, even Paul at #4!).
For example, who do you want from the 2004 draft (after Howard)?
2. Emeka Okafor
3. Ben Gordon
4. Shaun Livingston
5. Devin Harris
6. Josh Childress
7. Luol Deng
9. Andre Iguodala
13. Sebastian Telfair
15. Al Jefferson (well….that’s kind of a steal at #15)
17. Josh Smith
19. Dorell Wright
20. Jameer Nelson
24. Delonte West
25. Tony Allen
26. Kevin Martin
27. Saša Vujačić
28. Beno Udrih
NOTE: That was actually a pretty deep draft; Varejão, Duhan, & Ariza were all 2nd round picks!

Who would I want after Dwight Howard?
Kevin Martin. LOL

Exactly
That was my point (although I wouldn’t blame anyone who said Jefferson).

Still want Martin
Not as big a fan of Al Jefferson as other people. Kevin Martin’s worst team was 33 wins. Jefferson has played on multiple teams WORSE than that. His best team was a 45 win campaign I believe. And that was before the C’s traded away Toine, and Paul Pierce was still in his “prime prime prime”. Jefferson was not a major force of that team, although he contributed. As opposed to Kevin’s contribution to the 43 win team which was greater. I’m biased, but so are Jefferson fans. I’d rather have Kevin. He really is getting a lot better. I’m not sure that’s the case with Jefferson.

That's OK
I think I’d still take Martin as well, but like I said, I wouldn’t begrudge Jefferson fans pushing Martin to 3rd.

Jefferson gets a ton more pub even now
than Martin usually gets. Martin’s lack of pub hurts him more than anything else I think in terms of visibility. Which is sad, but if the team starts winning, and he’s at the heart of it, and for this team to win games that will have to be true, then people will realize how much better Kevin Martin is than Al Jefferson.

Andres Nocioni went undrafted too
It was pretty deep. Josh Smith at 17 and Childress at 6? Only one’s playing with the Hawks right now.

What a great draft pick by us. Damn. But Dwight Howard here would be nice.

yep
2006 was a clear miss.
Don’t put up the guys drafted after Douby again – uhg!
2004? You could make an argument for some of the guys before KM – but it would just be an argument, not definative.

I don't really think it's a mess
Man, I gotta research the fanpost’s I wanna write on this stuff. Crap. Oh well.
I think what happened with Douby, to summarize quickly, is that he and Garcia didn’t fit together like the team had hoped. I’d really rather have Bobby Brown than Rajon Rondo to be honest.

Groovy
People didn’t readily agree with me to move Artest in March 2007 either. It happens. I march to the beat of American Pie. :)
