Prediction

I have a feeling in my gut that the Kings are actually going to pull out a win tonight. I hope I’m right and it’s not just the hot pocket talking.

Actually TZ

I really think it’s going to happen when Brad comes back but I’m not voting against our guys and if they win tonight away in Philly or if they win at home on Wednesday I’m going to be a happy Kings fan. The reason I think it’s going to take Brad to get us a win is that in spite of JT’s remarkable first 3 games (and Spencer too) and in spite of Speedracers 31 points on Saturday I think it’s going to take Miller to get this group playing like a team. Until Beno steps up and starts leading this team as opposed to just playing decent or unless Kevin’s leadership mojo gets fedexed to him by David Thorpe I believe we need some vetern leadership and until someone proves me wrong I still think we really need Brad.

Cuz we kick much ass at the Playaz Club
I got a hoe named Real de Real
She got a buddy named SP 12 now you know the deal
We getz freaky in the studio late night
That’s why the beats that you hear are comin real tight
Somethin to roll to somethin to stroll to
If you’s a playa in the game this will hold you
Mo money mo money for the bank roll
Stick to the script don’t slip in the nine-fo
A lot of fools put salt in the game
Till these women get the notion that they runnin the game huh
I run my own and I’m my own self person
No respect make the situation worse then
Fillmoe, H.P., and Sunnydale
There’s a playaz club everywhere you dwell
Lakeview, P.H., and Army Street
A different part of town a different kind of freak
I just wiggle my toes on a mink rug
And press play on the remote at the playaz club

My take on the game...

Shock and Hawes were great, but the rest of the team seemed a bit disfunctional. On offense, the Kings are turnover prone and on defense, there’s no communication.

It was also clearly evident the void that Artest left. How in the hell can a team shoot .769% from the 3 point line??? That’s insane. Brand and Dalembert didn’t have monster numbers down on the post, so it leads me to believe that the Kings have no perimeter defense.

The amount of turnovers makes me believe that there’s no real leadership on the Kings. It almost looks like everyone’s just running around, lost on offense. So, that problem clearly lies with our PG, Udrih. PGs facilitate the offense and set everything up. Udrih or Brown needs to step it up, big-time or else we’ll see a whole lot more of this.

and I think when brad returns it should be better. Something like 60% of the offense goes through him and we’ll see more leadership when he gets back. It wasn’t just the TO’s, philly scored on at least 75% of them, easy baskets. Beno has to play better and if not we need a pg who can.

I saw a bunch of guys out there playing their own game not much teamwork, you’re right about the communication. Kmartin is not playing well right now. Even when he scored 31 on Saturday the team wasn’t engaged around him. It’s a tough way to start the season but if we play like this at home it’s really going to be tough.

Thoughts
  • Mikki’s hands need to be removed and replaced with crab claws, like tomorrow
  • Bobby Jackson was finished in the pre-season
  • Kevin Martin can’t score the ball if he doesn’t get the ball
  • John Salmons is John Salmons
  • Spencer Hawes best move was the deke & drop step on Dalembert. Unfortunately it was the offensive highlight of the whole game for the Kings
  • I’m not sure what was worse: The Kings Offense or Defense
  • Jason Thompson is either going to be very very good or great—I’m just not sure which yet
  • Donte Greene’s stint on the inactive list was very disappointing
  • More Bobby Brown is needed
  • Reggie Theus’ best coaching move was to take Mikki Moore out of the game with 10 mins left in the 3rd
  • Spitfire Grill (2214 4th ave Seattle) is a cool place to catch a game
  • If you don’t get drunk on the Kings, then drink beer, cuz this team is too much for the eyes right now
  • I’m going to take my own advice and dream of Audrey Hepburn

Lots of splinters in his ass.

The back court is killing this team right now. Beno is a turnover machine, Martin is struggling in his new role, Salmons is killing the flow, Bobby Jackson is beyond done, and Douby is not an NBA player. I can’t wait for Garcia to come back and Bobby Brown to get his shot.

Hot dogs, get your hot dogs.

Well I disagree about the Doubster

But other than that, I agree with almost all of that. I think some of Martin’s struggles are his, but some of his struggles are bi-products of the other problems this team has at the moment.

My views

the good

now for the bad:

Reggie may be the nicest person in the world but he is not an NBA coach. end of story, period let him finish the year then hire a real coach.

Beno is bad, really bad.

The team runs an offense that is about at the 8th grade level

There is no, NO, NO concept of defense. I mean NO defense. They don’t stop the ball, they don’t deney anything they don’t get “in” to the ball handler. JUST NO defense.

Mikki Less does nothing.

The Kings never look to get out and run could be because of the lack of PG

The Very good

Jt actually shot 8-10 tonight his two 3pt attempts were at the end of quarters

Rider, Mt Laurel (JT’s High school) and the area did a wonderful job showing their love tonight there were only about 8k there and 2k were there for JT. It was great hearing the Jason Thompson chants.

Beno

actually made some nice buckets when the Kings still had a chance to make it a game. He just isn’t a point guard. He’s Salmons minus a few inches of height and facial hair.

by furious.d on Nov 3, 2008 9:52 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Which is why

he should be a solid all-purpose backup guard, not a starting PG. He’s Antonio Daniels.

by furious.d on Nov 3, 2008 10:01 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Antonio Daniels

Is athletic and can play defense. Beno is more like Mike Bibby than either of those two guys.

Shut up and Coach

by Carl on Nov 4, 2008 11:44 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Probably true

The only thing that I would say separates Beno from being a B- version of Bibby is that, once upon a time, Bibby had a type of handles that doesn’t seem to be a part of Beno’s game at all. Remember when Bibby would split a seemingly perfect doubleteam and drop the ball to Vlade for a layup? At his best, Bibby used his ballhandling to get teammates the kind of easy buckets that an elite PG creates, despite lacking great passing skills.

IMO

Thoughts on Tonight's Game

I missed the game…so I’d have to say it was a good night.

How about this

If we’re losing this badly at home we start a “RUBIO” chant. It’ll at least make us feel better.

We are not going to lose that bad at home

I refuse to believe that. Hope I’m not the only one

No he's elgible for 2009 draft

You have to turn 19 in the calender year of the draft is held, ie 2009 he has turn Read this so you can stop misquoting bad information. Then read DX’s take on his age, and the day Rubio was born.

Argh (correction)

You have to turn 19 in the calender year of the draft is held, ie he would have to be born in 1990 or later to be eligible.

That's odd...

Draft Express has him listed for the 2009 draft. They’re usually pretty on top of this type of stuff. What a huge oversight on their part.

I got the sarcasm vfettke

I’m just trying to nip this in the bud. Bill Simmons is saying that Rubio will come out in the 2010 ddraft too, but that will be Rubio’s choice, and not the rules dictating it.

(That was very funny btw vf.)

Totally...

Next year’s draft is going to be huge if this keeps up. Kings end up with a pick in the 1 to 5 range. They’d also have the Rockets’ pick (in the mid 20’s) and a second round pick in the 30 to 35 range.

…And after we pick up Rubio, it’ll be time to sign LeBron in the next offseason after that. :)

by CloudyEyes on Nov 4, 2008 12:01 AM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

PG – Rubio
SG – Martin
SF – LeBron
PF – JT
C – Hawes

Yeah yeah I know it’s way way too early to be talking about this stuff…but that lineup makes me drool…

There’s no way LeBron will come to Sacramento; he’ll sign in a large city with a big market. He’s getting the max no matter where he lands.

Bill Simmons

Published a rumor that LeBron gets a $50 million bonus for joining a New York or LA team. He isn’t coming to Sacramento.
