big money freeagent

Ok its no secret Geoff Pietrie is building for the future now. We should have an assload of cash for 2010. For sake of arguement lets say we dump off a few guys and have the option of picking somone up in 09.

Baisically im making this thread, which is my first by the way, to see who the Sactown Royalty bunch thinks would be the best fit for our team.

Lets be realistic, Lebron James is not coming to Sacramento. Neither is D-Wade. Those two guys just have to much marketabiltiy to come to a small market town like sacramento.

So of this list who do you like and why?

2009:

  • Carlos Boozer
  • Drew Gooden
  • Ben Gordon
  • Brandon Bass
  • Ron Artest (lol wow)
  • Lamar Odom
  • Shawn Marion
  • Hedo Turkogu
  • Jason Kidd
  • Allen Iverson
  • Mike Bibby
  • Gerald Green
  • Trevor Ariza

2010:

  • Joe Johnson
  • Dirk Nowitski
  • Josh Howard
  • T-Mac
  • Yao Ming
  • Marcus Camby
  • Micheal Redd
  • Richard Jefferson
  • Tyson Chandler
  • Peja Stojakovic
  • Steve Nash
  • Amare Stoudamire
  • Chris Bosh

Ok, now obviously if you take a guy in 09 then you wont have as much money in 2010. Im not gonan get all technical with the cap so lets just say you have enough for 1 big name player like amare and enough for a role player like ariza.

Lemme know what you think.

btw i got the list of free agents from espn so if its wrong take it up with them

too soon...

I think its too soon to know. If you think JT and/or Shawes are the answer, then you can go in another direction… we simply can’t answer that. 5 games in. I still think that a trade is a more likely method for getting our “star” much like Boston did getting Garnett and Allen. That is, one of your youngsters looks like a lock to be really good (like Jefferson did), we trade that player and cap filler (k9, miller, etc) to a team with an established star that is going nowhere and ready to rebuild (for sake of example, Carmelo); and see what you have. Maybe a draft pick for another high level talent which can be absorbed because of the cap room. Bottom-line, I think with cap space and tradeable assets, the shopping list is not limited to FA’s, but the whole league.

mello

would be exciting! i think thats a good point. if jt and hawes pan out then all we need is a SF or a PG.

To be honest

I still can see almost noone. I don’t think that guys such as Stoudemire or Bosh would come to Sacramento and I don’t think it makes sense to sign older players such as T-Mac or Nowitzki in 2010 to join them with our youngsters and potential draft picks. From 2010 I could imagine maybe Richard Jefferson (and perhaps Joe Johnson although with no idea where to fit him) if he would not be overpaid, anyway the trade might be a better option (with a team on decline that needs to get rid of expensive players, such as when J-Rich went to Charlotte).

by KingsFanfromCentralEurope on Nov 7, 2008 12:47 PM PST reply actions

We're probably

better off trading our expiring contracts (Miller, Thomas, Moore) sometime next season, for the player we want, to a team that is looking to enter the FA market. Get somebody who’s in the middle of their 2nd contract. Or you get a couple of young players and a bad contract.

In other words, when everyone else is gathering cap space, we use our cap space to take advantage of the other teams.

Bingo

This is the right answer.

by ForThree on Nov 7, 2008 1:19 PM PST up reply actions

Agreed

Kfan is exactly on point.

The only players on the above list that intrigue me:
Boozer (but he would cost too much, and would hurt the development of JT and Hawes)
Tyson Chandler (ditto Boozer on development issues, and I think he’ll stay in New Orleans)

Chris Bosh doesn't interest you?

I like some of these power guys but I think the Kings need is going to be at the small forward spot and this list isn’t exactly making my spidey senses tingle. Maybe I’m wrong and Greene becomes the 3 of the future but I think the Kings need a star and I don’t have that kind of hopes for Dante. I see a high pick spent on a point this coming off-season and the Houston pick being used on a shot blocker/rebounder to replace Williams/Moore bench minutes. I also agree with most of the posts that the trade deadline before the summer of 2010 is the way to improve although I hate Melo.

He interests me

It’s just that, I don’t consider him a true franchise player. There is only a handful of those every generation, and Bosh isn’t one of those guys. Is he a 10 time all-star? Yeah, he is. But is he a franchise player who changes the game for players he plays with? Nope.

by pookeyguru on Nov 7, 2008 5:35 PM PST up reply actions

Agreed

Bosh isn’t a true franchise player who just needs consistent players molded around him to win championships (Duncan, Shaq, Jordan, LeBron?) but neither were Webber, Bibby, Peja, Divac, etc. We don’t need to hit the jackpot on a player of the decade to contend for a championship. Hopefully by this time we will have developed a solid group of talent that can be put over the top by the right allstar. Otherwise we’re going to have to get extremely lucky in the draft, and we know how long that can take.

by furious.d on Nov 8, 2008 10:22 AM PST up reply actions

I'd love to have Bosh

But there is no chance whatsoever he comes here. I’m not saying don’t make the call, no reason not to hear the polite chuckle on the other end of the line, but good teams in big markets will be after Bosh, why would he come to Sacramento?

by ForThree on Nov 8, 2008 7:12 AM PST up reply actions

I love Bosh

I think he has a great game. But I was going based on the assumption that the “big-name” FAs are not coming to Sacramento. After LeBron, the talk all has Bosh as the 2nd big prize that year. Since it was unrealistic, I didn’t mention him.

Is your Amare concern

health oriented? Because I too wonder how these microfracture surgeries are going to play out down the road.

Otherwise, I sure like Amare’s true shooting percentage. Amare and Kevin together? Efficient.

Only 25

I think he’ll still get even better. My concerns are that his knees may be 35. You also have to always wonder about the “Nash effect,” too. We don’t exactly have a PG like that.

A couple of months ago 2010 was all about getting a big. Today it would be getting a PG. In two years it’s anyone’s guess.

I thought about posting something on Posting & Toasting/Pounding the Rock

But the truth is, Section, is that I was going to a trade proposal including Kenny Thomas, and a couple Spurs players, to New York for Zach Randolph going to the Spurs. ( I know know, but if you’re the Maloof’s, saving money on a dead weight has to take priority.) The point is that you couldn’t do that because San Antonio doesn’t have cap room to absorb the extra salary, which is pretty bad. Randolph and the Spurs would be an excellent fit.

I was thinking the Kings could find a role player, and use a trade exception from the type of trade I described above (albeit a legal trade) that could see the Kings build from their success. Truthfully though, I would be just as happy to see the Kings to stand pat, and play Donte Green and Jason Thompson in the starting lineup vs Detroit.

as much as I think the Kings need a pg this season

I think they will use what hould be a high lottery pick next year for their future pg, then you have a young team that will take a year or two to gel and hopefully be a championship contender. The big name free agents may not be needed come 2010 if everything pans out

29

In the summer of 2010, Joe Johnson will be 29. He’ll be seeking the largest contract of his career, because you don’t get your big payday when you’re 33. I don’t think he’ll be worth the cost, and, oh yeah, we’ve got the SG position taken care of.

The more I watch our yougsters develop

the more I wonder what hole we really need to fill. If SHawes and Shock continue to improve they could become solid starters if not stars. We have KM at the 2 and Beno and Cisco for 4 more years. I guess the point or the three might be the positions we need to fill but you never know Greene could still pan out. End drunken transmission.

Hedo (still young)

Chandler,, because you couldn’t pass up on him, and maybe Ariza, to bolster the 3 spot. Look hard at PG depending on how BobbyB looks by the deadline or summer.

We definately need another 3 pt threat. Another ‘scary’ player off the bench, maybe thats here somewhere already(?) we’ll see.

Remember, BobbyJ is almost certainly gone either by the deadline or end of season.

Anyway, too soon to think it through clearly util we have a little more time to see what we’ve got in these young guys and Beno. . . .

Cisco? Cisco? CISCO!!!! #*$!%! !

I would go with either Joe Johnson or Chris Bosh in 2010, depending on what fits best… but as it was previously stated, it is too early to tell

by Caliballer91 on Nov 9, 2008 3:00 PM PST reply actions

Is it Impossible?

That in 2010 our roster is somewhat the same, except for our 3 #1 draftpicks?
B.Brown,KMART,Garcia,JT,Hawes 2nd team Beno,Salmons,Green,S Williams,Miller & 3 #1 draftpicks into the mix. This would mean Miller &Salmons take lesser roles thus lesser money. It would also mean all our young talent has developed and taken over!My point is 2010 is a long time away and you can`t predict how your young talent is going to develope or what draft pick you`re gonna get,so its very HARD to predict whom we should go after,it could be NOBODY & we just pay our stud youngsters!

by hudson101 on Nov 10, 2008 4:53 PM PST reply actions

Not John

With a ETO in 2010, it’s more likely, if he continues to play like he has, he will exercise his option. He’s scheduled to make less then this years MLE in 2010, plus he’ll he looking for a longer term contract as he enters his 30’s.

GP has to next years trade deadline to resign him to a much higher long term contract or to trade him. Otherwise, he pobably goes to the highest bidder in 2010. Their will be a lot of teams with cap space so the price could be high.

by HighTops on Nov 10, 2008 5:20 PM PST up reply actions

Really

Do you think that highly of him?I guess I don`t,rather play Garcia and Green.Anyways Douby could take his spot at backup SG.

by hudson101 on Nov 10, 2008 5:33 PM PST up reply actions

Yes Really

John is shooting a higher percentage , more rebounds, more assists, & fewer rebounds than Martin. And, he’s making half of Martin’s salary, and only scoring 5 fewer points, And, let’s not forget he’s a better defender than Martin, Garcia & Green. He doesn’t have to do anything more, just continue to play within the system and the current rate and he’s a shoe in for a big new contract.

Now, if Green progresses very quickly, say by next years trade deadline, GP will surely trade Salmons before he becomes a free agent if he can. By that I mean, no one is going to trade for a guy about to be a free agent, unless we do a sign and trade.

Agreed on everything you`ve stated

I`m not arguing the #`s ,I just don`t like the playing style. He reminds me of RonRon W/ his ball controling attitude,it hampers the young guys development w/o the ball movement.

I see what you are saying

But he’s been getting better. He really stepped it up on D the lst couple games and I cannot recall one time he stop the ball from moving on offense against the Dubs. I was there so that’s why I use it as an example.
