Thoughts on Brad
I retrack what I said in an earlier thread today and am stronly feeling that Brad's usefullness to the Kings is rapidly drawing to a close. In short, with every game he plays his value and effectiveness to the Kings decreases and he;s looking more and more like a stiff.
My question to you all is what your feelings about what Brad's value to the team is.
He is close to worthless in the paint.
He is a slightly above scorer for the Kings averaging 11.8 points per game.
His average rebound per game are above average @ 8.7.
He's averaging slightly below league average @ center in blocks @ .7 per game probably brcause he doesn't like to spend much time in the paint.
He is the main distributer from high key and the argument is he makes the offense better especialy for Kevin with his strong passing, one of the best passing bigs in the league.
When his perimeter shot is falling is improves the spacing and opens up cuts to the hoop when he doesn'shoot and he has men in motion.
Having laid out his positive and negatives what are your thoughtsabout what the team should do about Brad Miller.

Not sure what they can do
It feels recently like we have the Brad Miller of two seasons ago, and not the Brad of last year. He looks a step slower than most defenses and his own younger teammates. The whining and dumb fouls were kept under control last night, but they have been a problem all season long.
But Brad’s gone through stretches like this before. When he’s playing well, the offense generally runs smoother. We’ve been bitching and moaning about him for years, but you look at the +/- numbers at the end of the season, and invariably Brad sits at or near the top for the team.
We’ve discussed his trade value a bit recently, and there might not be a market for him. If not, I have no problem with Reggie decreasing his minute for Shock and Hawes, and taking the cap relief when his contract expires.

Yeah it's either one or the otehr
Cuz it’s clear Shock & Hawes need PT together. It would also be nice, as we discussed last night Otis, to give Greene more time I suppose somewhere along the line, even if it’s @ backup PF.

Inconsistant shooting makes him a liability
His low post game is poor, but he rebounds well for someone who never jumps. But, when he can’t make his jumper, he’s a liability. If we had a really good distributing PG, I really like to see us go away from the HI Post offense.
Spenser’s passing gets better everyday, and he could easily make those back door passes to Martin out of the Triangle which really makes Miller dispensible. All that being said, the Kings need to acquire another serviceable PF before they move Miller.
Moving Miller leaves us with Mikki & K9 to back up JT and no one to back up Hawes, when we go into next year. Trading our expiring or Mikki for a serviceable PF, makes the lose of Miller this year a PLUS,
It’s been reported that the Kings are looking to trade Miller for expiring and young talent, so I don’t see them accepting any bad contracts. But, if we had another 10 & 10 PF, I could see them accepting an expiring and role player. Because with the cap space and draft pick next summer, GP would be in a better position to wheel & deal.

You've been trying to make this point in every thread
For this year, if Miller disappears and you get no big back you have Hawes/JT/Mikki/Shelden with K9 in emergencies.
Next year, it doesn’t matter, any number of backup bigs that won’t completely embarrass themselves in 8 minutes a game will be available for 1 million a year, or GP can draft someone, or someone else will be along via trade.
We’ll manage to find some stiff to play 10 minutes a game without spending too much of the Maloof’s precious money.
The more you guys work the trade machine, the happier I am GP is our GM.

we have Shelden Williams already

shelden williams is not a stiff
If he was five inches taller, he’d be one of the better centers in the league. That said, he’s too short for the game he wants to play, but he’s damn good at bangin’ in the paint. He’s a center that’s shorter than our SF=of=the=future. Not good.

then a short stiff
he is equivalent in many ways to say, Nazr Mohammed (Nazr is taller and can block some shots but not much else, Shelden has other talents essentially equalizing their “stiff-yness” – maybe Malik Rose is a better example of a shorter wide body used in the middle) and already on the payroll.

I THINK MILLER HAS CHECKED OUT...
I think he’s on cruise control, just waiting to be traded. He’s lame comment in the paper today (something like “go talk to the young guys sniffle, sniffle you don’t want to talk to me.”) was just proof that he’s pouting and quickly becoming a distraction. If he were playing better and had a better attitude, he’d have value as an instructional/mentor-type to our young bigs. As far as JT not being ready yet, he plays better than Moore and about as effectively as MIller, with a lot of room to improve. Get him out there and eventually, he will be ready. In the meantime, there’s nothing to lose -and a higher draft pick to gain - by losing more games.

My REAL Thoughts on B-Rad...
..are that he would be better in Toronto:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=3000556575615&teams=28282823&te=&cash=
JO’s PER is lower than Brad’s. I think one place that Brad would actually contribute is Toronto. Colangelo is said to be looking for another big man. Toronto would get Brad’s high-post passing skills for this year and next, Douby’s (fading) potential, and Mikki’s…well, whatever it is he does for a team that happens to not be reflected in the box score. Plus, they still get expiring contracts to make sure they have $$ to extend to Bosh in 2010.
For the Kings, they get earlier-than-expected cap space w/ JO’s expiring contract, which would open up more options (such as trades, 09 free agent-hunting, etc.). Plus, the logjam of Big Men is reduced. We know K9 and Williams aren’t going to get much time. That leaves Hawes, JO & JT to split 96 min.
I honestly think Toronto is better w/ Miller than w/ JO. Maybe they would do it.

Just to exploit the skeptic I am
JO comes here, and yes, he gets a paycheck, but will he play/compete or be another sad sack going through the motions? Do you want the poison you know or the poison you don’t? Brad Miller for all of his faults is still a “fan favorite”, for many of the 12,000 who still go to ARCO Arena. Lastly, you gave up three and got one. Who are the other two?

Yes to both PhuKings and bte
I absolutely agree that Brad is just waiting and expecting to get traded and is going to wait for the trade utilizing the least amount of energy and emotion he can until it happens.
I’m not sure that Brad really is a fan favorite. I think we appreciate what he did for us back in the day but I have never had that “warm and fuzzy” feeling for Brad like I have had for many other of our players like BJax, Vlade, Peja, Hedu, Doug Christie, heck even Mikki a little bit.
I think that at this point the fans just want to get better and win and if the cost is shipping Brad off to Toronto or somewhere I think it’s “thanks for the memories, don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.”
Once we are committed to making the trade (and maybe GP is already there. I mean probably) then the bottom line is that we can make the bodies and the money work.
Bottom lime, it’s a salary dump just a little bit early. We are not going to win with Brad so we are better off losing without him. At the end of the season our payroll is looking a lot better and then who knows what happens. At the end of this season there are about 22 teams that are going to be taking long hard looks at their rosters. JO will be gone, he played at a high level for many years, there must be something he could he can teach our kids while still scoring 12 points and getting 6 boards a night on those decrepit knees.
If you can get past the point about worrying about winning it becomes much easier. I’m not talking about tanking, we send the best players we have every night with intentions of winng and putting out the best team you can and if you lose too bad, you just moved ahead in the line for the lottery. Tanking is about trying not to win and I’m not advocating that at all. It comes down to this, we are not going to win with the vets we have, our kids are not ready to take us back to the playoffs, it’s not likely any of the superstars looking for max contracts in 2010 are penciling in Sacramento into their plans and drafting late lottery is not going to help us draft the players we need to get back to championship form.
