What Happens When You Lack an Identity?
"They sped our pace up. They forced us into a lot of jumpers. I shot eight threes – that's probably the most threes I've taken in a game in my life. That's what I attribute the loss to."
Beno Udrih:
"We are just frustrated, because we can't figure out why. We are trying. We are trying to do everything. We are trying to practice, we had a meeting, we talk to each other, we communicate, it just doesn't work. We just have to keep trying to figure it out. ... We should play harder. We should not give up. I'm not saying we gave up, but we have to play through. I really don't know what to say."
Jason Thompson:
"The energy against the Lakers, home and away, was great. Coming in there with the mentality of how well we played against them, it's definitely a letdown. We were looking to turn things around. I guess things got postponed."
This team does not lack talent -- you don't beat the Lakers without some players. It's effort. It's motivation. It's a strong identity. This team doesn't have those three things on a consistent basis.

Let's see
Physical teams pound us into the ground and fast teams run us into the ground. Better teams generally dominate us. We do hang well with other weaklings. Sounds like we have PFD (Puny Freshman Disease).

I am glad I didn't drive 200 miles to see this crap
I had thought about making the drive with my son, but other plans came into play.
Missed the game on TV, too, as I went out to a movie and dinner with my wife.
Got back in time to catch part of the replay with the Knicks up 22-15. That soon became 31-15 and a Kings timeout.
Saw Duhon’s three and some other Knicks hijinks, then saw a disorganized Kings offense on the other side rushing to put up shots as fast as the Knicks. Saw Spencer chuck up a three on the first pass.
Turn on Sports Center, get the final score, turn off TV, go to bed.

This Saturday was date night
I got sympathy sex. That is the only good thing I can say about this game.
Everyone including the pregame announcers mentioned that the Kings should be ready to run:
43 points allowed. 3 rebounds, 68% shooting, down by 22. Do you all realize how difficult it is to play that poorly?
Did they try to run with a D’Antoni team? The Knicks did not shoot a foul shot the first quarter – how come the coaching staff couldn’t figure out that there are ways to slow down a fast team?

I thought that the first half especially had to do with the huge emotions of the previous lakers series. I think it was hard for them to get up for the game after that. It was positive to see how we responded and made a run in the 3rd… before we got destroyed by a series of unbelievable al harrington shots.
Loved the play by Beno btw.
Can we get these guys some motivational Viagra then please.
Can’t play hard twice in a row.

Especially during halftime
Where’s the Red Bull sponsorship?
One upside
Even in a game like that who can resist excitement at JTs continued double-double campaign.
Every opposing team’s commentators keep talking about Shock and Hawes and Donte, granted the color people must be struggling to find something to talk about in the absence of having anything interesting to say about the team’s general play or the play of its veterans. I think Brad Miller summed it up pretty well in Amick’s last article, “You don’t want to interview me. There are plenty of young guys around here with stories to tell.”
That’s right Brad. Beyond that statement, we probably don’t want to hear what you have to say.
LOL!!!!

Many problems with this team
No simple solutions. You could fire Reggie. Of course, I doubt Whisenant solves this team’s problem. Maybe I’m cynical. I still want to see this team fully healthy, and well, it still isn’t. I would love Brad MIller jettisoned now, so Reggie can just commit fully to the young guys, but Petrie will have the final say on that one. Too many question marks, too much crap surrounding this team from top to bottom, and truthfully, after taking 5 mins to walk up a hill that normally takes me a minute to walk up without ice, I don’t give enough of a shit anymore. This team isnt worth crying anything over; but I’m not really sure it ever was.
If I have to blame any single entity for this rebuilding process, and the way it’s going, I’d have to start with Petrie and/or the Maloof’s, which ever party resisted it longer. I’d point the finger at one side, but I’m sure it’s not that simple or easy. Nothing in life ever seems to be.

Dont doubt Petrie's skills
You know he’s gonna deal Brad. Other GM’s know that by now too. That’s why the trade isn’t going to happen for a while. This is the period that they throw all kinds of low-ball shitty offers out there. “Here are some d-league rejects for your viable center” – type offers. Give it a month or two when the teams who delusionally think that they could have a chance with their .500 teams (Chicago, Miami), want that one piece that will “put them over the top” and will be willing to cough up that 2010 first rounder or something equally as tasty for the services Mr. Miller McSmokinbowls.
"Viable center"
and Brad Miller no longer belong in the same sentence.
Do you really thing there are teams that think that Brad Miller will “put them over the top?”
Who’s smokin’ what?

you have to remember
just because brad miller doesnt live up to your “lofty” standards, doesnt mean that the man can’t play anymore, and play well. hes just frustrated to be on a bad team. Get over yourself.
Brad's lofty standards
Watch guy blow by for dunk.
Watch second guy blow by for dunk.
Repeat step one.
I hate to tell you this, because you seem to think otherwise, but Brad Miller is a major, major reason we are a bad team.

Seems we have come to the same conclusion

I ain't gonna "waller in our squalor"
This is what rebuilding looks like sports fans. Deal with it!
If kevin ever comes back from his “sore ankle” and we give him 5 games to shake the rust off then, and only then (assuming we don;t have any more injuries to key players) will we know what this team looks like.
I now want Brad gone worse than I want Mikki gone. At least you can bench Mikki. It looks like Brad is really in play. If all we get for him are expiring contracts and a high 1st round pick or low 2nd round pick I am cool with it. I’ve come to the conclusion that rebuilding can’t truly begin until Brad is gone. He’s an impediment to progress, a remenant of our past and it will better for all concrened (including Brad) WHEN HE’S PLAYING FOR ANOTHER TEAM

Kevin's transition
There is a lot of talk about how well Kevin and Brad play together and how they suffer when the other is not in the game. Seems the sooner Kevin adjusts his offense away form the high post passing game the better off the team will be.
totally agree
we will hurt for a while after Brad leaves. We will hurt forever (or it might just seem like it) if he stays.

"This Team Doesn't Lack Talent" ... okay, Ziller.
I Beg to differ. The King’s talent level (or lack there of) can only be matched by Oklahoma City, maybe Indiana and possibly Minnesota. Given the chance, I’d much rather have Memphis’ roster, the Clippers’ roster, I’d even take Minnesota’s roster at this point. John Salmons and Kevin Martin are better than average NBA players, Jason Thompson and Spencer Hawes will be better than average NBA players, Francisco Garcia is an average NBA player, Beno is an average backup point guard. Most nights, opposing teams have anywhere from 3-5 players that are better than our best player. Phoenix: Nash, Shaq, JRich, Amare. Houston: TMac, Yao, Artest, Battier. LA Lakers: Kobe, Gasol, Bynum, Odom. Boston: Garnett, Pierce, Allen, Rondo. San Antonio: Duncan, Ginobili, Parker. Denver: Billups, Anthony, Nene, JR Smith. Dallas: Kidd, Terry, Dirk, Howard. Orlando: Turkoglu, Lewis, Howard. Et Cetera. Et Cetera. Et Cetera.
OUR ROSTER SUCKS! TAKE OFF THE BLINDERS, SACRAMENTO! YOU’RE STARTING TO SOUND LIKE PEACHES NAPEAR.

I see your point
But have the 49ers not played better since replacing Nolan with Singletary? And what has changed there? The new coach changed starting quarterbacks, but he is working with the same roster that Nolan had.
I agree that this is not a roster of premium talent. But I do not think that the squad is so bereft of talent that it should be 6-18 and losing games by 20+ and 30+ points at home to anyone, let alone an eastern conference team with an overall losing record and a 3-8 (before last night) road record.

house of cards
that has fallen. As I have mentioned elsewhere – five coaches out means Coach Theus stays as it is best said in pun form -
acquiring a new coach will be a cellar’s market.
We need a system in order to build a team. I am not laying this season at the feet of Coach Theus but there is validity to the lack of overall talent to make a successful team. We can agrue over what success is, but it sure as heck ain’t this.

Fire Reggie Now!
I supported the guy all I can. No, a coach cannot go out there and make free throws or grab rebounds, but his job is to inspire and motivate players to do so. Which he has failed miserably. I gave him the benefit of the doubt due to injuries and yes, the team is not at full health, but no one can convince me 43 points to the Knicks in the first quarter was due to a beat up, injured team. I’m pissed I wasted a Saturday night for that level of effort, not to mention the $280 in tickets I pay every game x 44. Reggie is a bust as an NBA coach. His rotations and adjustments (lack of) make no sense. There is no rhyme or reason to how he is managing the games and I don’t want to see him on the bench Monday night.
I wanted to puke over the number of lay ups… that Turtle on the comcast commercials could have done a better job of stopping guys than Miller and Hawes. Speaking of which, I get Miller’s hot/cold performances, but where in the hell was Hawes? He had 1 foul and 0 points with a couple minutes left in the 3rd… what, is Miller rubbing off on him?

Hawes' performance
It’s called being 20 and having just a tad over a full season under your belt. You want to put the kid in the microwave and have him ready in 15 seconds? Not gonna happen. Patience is going to be needed in large doses when dealing with youth.

Thank you, John Salmon's, for taking personal responsibility
Coach Theus, please follow suit.
Point Guard Beno, please follow suit.
