Hoopsworld Rumor: Brad/K9 for Marion offer on the table for Kings?
"There is truth to a discussion about Marion being swapped for Miller... nothing is close, nothing is pending... in most situations rarely does a deal get instant approval from both sides... its rarely "Hey I'll give you Kobe Bryant for Keith Bogans" - and you instantly make the deal... a lot of time there is so much parity in a move, or so much that could fail in the move that teams tend to let things simmer - sometimes its because others have to be involved in the decision... rarely does a deal get instantly done, and more times than not its simply about shopping for the best deal.
The floor on Brad Miller is Shawn Marion... now can the Kings do better than that? Thats where the hold up tends to be... this belief that maybe I can do better and keep shopping... I would say it this way, you move Brad Miller today, then find out tomorrow you could have gotten Kobe Bryant for him... you tend to lose your job that way.... Think about how bad Memphis got run over what they got for Pau Gasol - nothing gained by jumping too quick."

The Kings are not in a hurry to make a deal… Brad is a good mentor for Spencer Hawes, the Kings are playing some interesting basketball and business will get done once the Kings get all the available offers… I really do not try and do the “cook up a deal” thing, because it just starts additional stuff that clouds the waters… I can say there is a standing offer with Miami for Kenny Thomas and Brand Miller – the question is does Sac pull the trigger for just marion or hold out for something more elesewhere.
2)What’s the latest on Marion? When? Where?
- Seem inevitable… when is up to the HEAT… where seems like Sacramento.
3)Is SacTown really in the mix for Marion? &
- They have talked, Sacramento is not sold on what direction they want to go and Brad is a good team guy there is nothing lossed in not trading him – the question becomes what do you gain in trading him.

How is this deal not already done?
I don’t care if Marion isn’t the player he used to be in Pheonix, he’s a hell of a lot better than Brad right now and he comes off the books this summer instead of next summer, and getting anyone to take K9 off our hands is a huge +.

You hit it
with K9(woof!) because we have been struggling to find any suitors for a deal that involves him. If he is in the discussions of this deal and Miami is serious about taking him along with Brad, then Petrie has to do it.

Seriously
You get out from under your two worst contracts a year early and get the best player in the trade to boot.

This is a no brainer as a salary dump. My guess is that Miami is holding out for Houston’s first round pick in order to take on the extra salary.

Miller/Thomas for Marion
The fact that this deal hasn’t happened yet is that Miami is unwilling to take Kenny Thomas. If they were, then this deal would be done in a second by Petrie. It would accomplish everything he appears to be seeking, namely, 2009 cap space, and does the improbably – getting someone to take K9 off our hands a year early.
by sactown on Dec 15, 2008 9:57 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
This sounds familiar
Kenny was a stumbling block last year and appears to be this season as well.
Either way, I’m cool with Petrie waiting…the Artest trade will pay fruit down the road (IMO), and trading Brad or letting him and Kenny expire naturally is fine as far as I’m concerned.
Although if Petrie does manage to leach Kenny onto a deal, it will move the Webber trade from a marginal failure to a marginal sucess in my eyes.
Know K9 getting traded, know hope!

Some people are under the illusion that Brad can still play
Maybe he can, maybe he just needs a change of scenery, who knows. Besides, Miami mainly cares about the summer of 2010, when both those contracts would be off the books anyway.
by Deleran on Dec 14, 2008 7:38 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
I could at least see that as a reason Miami doing it but I don’t see why the hell they would want K9 (W00F!). I guess in the grand scheme of things the trade wouldn’t matter since all three players would be off the books before the 2010 FA but I just don’t undersand why Miami would want a guy who is up to this point a piece of monkey crap and a 6 million dollar even bigger piece of monkey crap. Sub Douby for K9 and that deal makes more sense for Miami. They could think a change of scenery might improve his game even though I do not see it.

Doubys salary doesn't work
They probably want BJax or Mikki, but the GP is probaby asking for something else if they won’t take K9.

NBA CHAT WITH BILL INGRAM
John in Chicago:
Can the Bulls package Hinrich and Tryrus for the Kings Brad Miller? Then package Nocioni and Thabo to the Clips for Kaman? Would both sides do the trade?
Bill Ingram:
I’m certain the Bulls would make that trade, but I believe the Kings are close to a deal with Miami for Marion. And again, the Clips are saying over and over again that Kaman is not on the table.
Chris in Dubuque, IA:
Noah, Thomas, and Sefalosha seem to be on the outs with the Bulls. They make about $7.8 together. What could they be traded for that would help? Etan Thomas? Joe Smith? Kurt Thomas? Brad Miller?
Bill Ingram:
There’s nothing the Bulls need more than a starting center, and Miller will get moved this season.
Jeff in Miami FL:
Miami is 4W 1L since inserting a mediocre center in the lineup (Joel Antony) who good can the Heat be with a legitimate center like Brad Miller?
Bill Ingram:
Yeah, they’re a sure playoff team with Miller, and I’ve heard the Kings are in discussions about that very move right now.
Bulls Fan in Chi City:
Bulls = Playoff Team or Lottery Team?
Bill Ingram:
Lottery team barring a Brad Miller trade.
Josh in miami:
brad miller wouldnt be a good addition for the heat he is a upgrade over mark blount but thats not saying much, how about okafor for marion?
Bill Ingram:
You’d rather have OKAFOR than Miller???? Wow – at least Miller is a double-double every night and can create his own shot . . .Okafor is tied up for a loooong time, too.
Otis in :
kings are close to getting marion? I see why the kings trade miller, but marion is going to create a log jam at SF. salmons has been playing good, of course marion is better, but he wont be around next year
Bill Ingram:
It’s being discussed . . .not saying it happens. For the Kings it’s all about the ending contract, nothing else.
Otis in Sacramento:
I think the PG situation in sacramento needs to be addressed, and miller for hinrich makes sense, wouldnt you do that before trading for marion?
Bill Ingram:
Depends on whether you’re looking to improve the team, or to get cap space. If you’re going to keep the player, yes, I do Hinrich in a heartbeat!
jess in california:
Quick, where do the following players go: shawn Marion, brad miller, lamar odom, g Wallace
Bill Ingram:
OK last one – just because this one’s funny, Jess. Sacramento, Miami, nowhere, and Clipperland . . .Thanks for a great chat, everyone! Steve Kyler’s up next, so drop your questions to Steve.

I don't understand why everyone is so gungho about moving miller this year.
Marion is an upgrade over Salmons, but then we get non-starting Jon Salmons which is a huge drop off from regular Salmons (hopefully that makes sense).
I understand we want to move Miller in order to free up some playing time for JT, but I think Miller’s tutelage is valuable for the next year at least. Either way K9 is movable as an expiring contract in 2010, maybe not this year, but definitely next year. Why not teach Hawes and JT a couple more things about passing and running an offense, since the coach isn’t doing that.
The only thing moving the expiring contracts of Miller and K9 does is give us cap relief one year earlier; which is good as it allows us to take on the cap dumping moves of desperate teams (see Camby, Marcus), but the value of contracts that expire in 2010 are more valuable then those that expire this year due to the relatively weak free agent crop.
I am a realist and do not believe we have a shot in hell of getting any of the marquee free agents from 2010, barring a number 1 pick this next year that makes our team more desirable for a sub top tier player to come to. The only way we land someone is through trade (see Webber, Chris) and Miller and K9 can become a superstar.

Why Marion
First, he can play the 4 or 3, and has been rebounding well, 13 yesterday. Second, he would ease the transistion should we choose to trade Salmons. Moving Miller & K9, frees up $21M and 2 roster spots next year. The money & spots allow you to make uneven trades, where you assume more salary then you return. Either because your getting a more talented player, or where the other team is willing to give you draft picks to take an expensive player off their hands. Either way our trade options multiple with cap space.
Adding rookies to the team may help, but having the option to add some serviceable vets is also nice.

First: I hate Shawn Marion
I insticntively believe him to be a bad guy – whether thats true or not.
Second: With all the teams that want to get under the cap for 2010 because the grass will be greener then, there’s a real possibilty of a sweet deal for a team that has some cap space next year.

You start Marion at power forward, which really is his natural position in today’s NBA.
Udrih/Martin/Salmons/Marion/Hawes
Thompson is your first big sub for either guy; Moore comes in to back up center. Garcia and Greene fill in swing minutes; Jackson or Brown (or Brown or Brown) at the 1.
I don’t think Martin nor Salmons have anything to do with this.

Never, but I understand the angst
Sometimes you just have a visceral reaction in your gut to a guy. Maybe it’s a good idea to add him to your roster, but that dislike is hard to get rid of.
It’s kind of the feeling you get drafting T.O. for your fantasy football team.

From today's Chat on Hoopsworld
Andre in Florida:
Do you see MIAMI making the trade for Brad Miller any time?
Bill Ingram:
The offer’s on the table from SAC, the catch is they have to take Kenny Thomas. If I’m the HEAT, it’s worth it to land a legit center who’s a double-double every night.
This makes more sense, if Miami offered Marion for Miller/Thomas I think the deal would be done. I find this both reassuring (knowing GP wasn’t sitting on an offer like this) and disheartening (knowing that Thomas might be the deal-breaker).
Note: Bill Ingram also stated that Miami would be hosting first round playoff games with Miller on board (as stated elsewhere in the chat), so that’s probably why he thinks taking K9 is worth it (let’s just hope that Miami thinks the same thing).

Brad could help that team get extra offense
I’m not sure about much else. He don’t clog the lane, and he damn sure aint no power player. We all know how much Riles cares about that.

he won't be the same player
not saying better or worse, but different system produces different play and thus different players. New teams make soggy players fresh and Dwayne Wade (my fav player in the association atm) makes his teammates bettter (which makes you wonder even more about Marion). Wade will no doubt appreciate another passer on the team.
I do think Marion would be particularly crestfallen on the Kings, Brad Miller would be fine though I see his abilities as the anti-thesis of Marion. His speed will not blend with “Flash”. As for Kenny Thomas, they have doghouses in Miami too.

Miami’s centers Anthony & Magloire comebind for 2pt & 6 rebounds in 42mins. Marion had 15 & 5 in 41mins on 6-9 shooting.
Looks to me that the Heat could use some help at center.

My Fav MIA Trade,Last one!
Mia receives Brad & all exp. contracts(to counter Marion`s exp. contract).
Sac receives Marion & little used players.
No K9,but that`s probably holding up the deal anyway!
In this deal we take on $780,509 & Mia drops under LUXTAX,while also gaining a roster spot for the player they covet “Starbury”.
