Miller-Marion Trade Might be in Danger to Cavs. Poll: Welcome a 3-Way Deal?

UPDATE:  The Plain Dealer in Cleveland reports that the Cavs have not talked to the Heat about getting Marion, according to "multiple team sources."  In the polls 54% of StR was in favor of the 3-way trade as described below and 45% weren't.  Thanks for voicing your opinion.

This coming from Adrian Wojnarowski from Yahoo! Sports, the Cavs are offering Anderson Varejao and Wally Szczerbiak to the Miami Heat for Shawn Marion. The Cavs, however, are "hesitant to mess with the chemistry." The Raptors are also going after Marion.   Just my thought, maybe a 3-way trade with the Kings works?

Star-divide

An overwhelming 91% of StR members would welcome a trade for Marion as shown in TZ's poll.  Marion would probably rather play with LeBron James than in Sacramento and the Kings are seemingly holding out for the best offer when it comes to trading Brad.  The Cavs, they're not pulling the trigger because of chemistry concerns to an already very good team.  Ether way, his $18 million comes off the books after this season, but if Marion does get shipped to Cleveland I'd like to see Geoff Petrie jump in.

Brad and Kenny Thomas still get traded to the Heat giving them a much needed center.  Marion gets shipped to Cleveland to make a run with LeBron, if they gel.   Maybe throw Quincy Douby to Cleveland.  It works too.  Wally World and Varejao go to Sactown.  Wally's $13 million contract expires this season and Varejao, according to the article, will "likely opt out."  If he doesn't he has over $6 million due to him next season before his contract ends.

This trade could push Jason Thompson to the starting line-up with Spencer Hawes moving to center.  With Varejao coming in it also adds another big man.Not a bad trade the Kings could make.  So I ask this...

Poll
If Shawn Marion was going to Cleveland but Brad Miller was still going to Miami, would you welcome Wally Szczerbiak and Anderson Varejao?

Great post. Love the trade concept

I would definitely welcome Wally and Anderson. Don’t care much for K9 and Quincy so I wouldn’t care where they go. I would miss Brad Miller because of all that he has done here in Sac. Marion would be great and would probably sell a couple thousand more tickets each night. But I knew he would be a long shot for the Kings. Wally and Anderson would be great. Anderson has energy and has good rebounding abilities. Wally is ok on the defensive end but I like him more for offense. He would bring a good 3 point shooter to the Kings. I approve of this trade.

Haters make me famous.

Interesting point made by Wojnarowski
Sacramento Kings players had grown tired of listening to Reggie Theus tell them that whenever he did get fired, he’d have a good college job waiting for him. Maybe so, but they didn’t care. After his firing Monday, he can go back to campus.

Just so funny, like everything else.

Meh

whatever frees up money for next year, I’m down for. Although, just the though of getting K9 off the books early in the Marion for Miller/Thomas trade makes me excited.

They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.

I like

Is it bad that I would much prefer this trade over a straight deal for Marion? I’d rather see the young Kings in the starting line-up instead of Shawn and with the way Cisco is playing I would rather have him getting more minutes than Marion. Gives us a good young defensive minded big for at least this year and another spot up shooter for when Kmart/Cisco/Salmons are injured/not hitting shots. I think it works pretty well for all teams involved especially Cleveland.

Great deal

Only prob is Wally`s playing time would cut out Green, but other that that it`s a great deal!

by hudson101 on Dec 16, 2008 10:08 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

What about?

Do this deal then trade Wally & more(Moore,Jackson,Williams or SALMONS) at trade deadline.

by hudson101 on Dec 16, 2008 10:14 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Just thought of this

Run this off the bench for a bigger line-up when the Bobbys need a rest. PG-Cisco, SG-Wally, SF-Greene, PF or C-Moore, Varejao. 6’7+ only.

ESPN has Varejeo at 6`11"

He has started at C the last 2 nights due to injury to Big Z.

by hudson101 on Dec 16, 2008 10:26 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry

Misread thought you listed him as 6`7,anyways I rather shift Moore to 3rd C & have Williams as 2nd PF behind JT!
Now B.Brown gets the shaft in this lineup.

by hudson101 on Dec 16, 2008 10:32 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

He can play both

That’s what I like about him. He can play PF when Z’s in and center when he’s out. 14 PPG in 2 starts so far.

true

But, man, it sure would be nice to have more consistent 3pt shooting.

The value of Brad and K9's contracts will only escalate next season.

So unless you are getting something useful in return why do it? I am talking about young players of promise or picks; don’t see how Varajeo and Szerbiack do this for us. Obviously having Varajeo and Mikki in the game could result in the entire team trying to take charges, but In general they are mirror images of each other with neither having any semblance of an offensive game and both players being hussle players.

Cap space has already been offered to us in the form of Marion that’s not good enough for Petrie so I believe he is waiting for something of value as he also realizes that brad and kenny are assets. My guess is he is waiting for a bulls deal that includes tyrus thomas or maybe noah if he continues to be a sour puss in Chicago.

There now I've met the 75 word count. -pookeyguru

Assets?

Wouldn`t the assets come in form of Cap space so we can do a sign & trade or just pick up a FA or ETO such as C.Boozer?

by hudson101 on Dec 16, 2008 10:22 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

It seems to me...

…that this just emphasizes how good the Miller/K9 for Marion deal would be.

If Marion still has value, then he can be shipped out again.

I don’t have the time to check right now, but off the top of my head, would some combination like this work (after a Miller/K9 for Marion trade):

Chicago – Verejao/Wally
Sacramento – Thomas/Hughes (plus?)
Cleveland – Marion

Maybe also send Moore to Chicago if they really are done with Noah as well . . . although that’s highly suspect that both Noah & Thomas will be shipped out.

Again, no time at the moment, but I thought I’d through it out there to see what everyone can do with it.

by smgmatt on Dec 16, 2008 10:34 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

It works too

I’ve liked Tyrus Thomas since he got drafted. He’s only 22 and has nowhere to go but up. And that trade would work.

by rc360 on Dec 16, 2008 10:46 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Only thing

Why not cut out the middle men,let them do their own deal & deal w/ Chi directly, also there are other factors of getting a deal done such as LUXTAX cap, roster spots.
The ESPN trade machine doesn`t account for these type of things.
For example Chi is bearly under LUXTAX and this deal would have them take on $4mil & put them way over LUXTAX.Probably not gonna happen.
We`re in the same boat, bearly under LUXTAX we can`t take on more than $809,000 & won`t!
In this deal we take on $379,756,thus both teams stay under LUXTAX which is $70,800,000.

Sorry CHI is bearly OVER LUXTAX my mistake.

Still they`ll want to get under & we could help them or MIA do it w/ the right deal!

by hudson101 on Dec 16, 2008 12:22 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Not for Me...

I don’t like Sacto’s incoming players in this deal. I’m OK with Thomas, but here’s the problem: bring in Thomas and that will only impede J-Shock’s development, unless you have Thomas come off the bench, which is not good, because he has expressed frustration at not getting more minutes, etc. Also, Hughes still has 2 more years on his contract, and his numbers aren’t going to be that much better than Salmons or Garcia. This would take away any financial flexibility we would have this summer. No thanks…I’d rather have AV & Wally.

Besides, I really doubt Chicago is “done” with Noah. And aren’t AV and Noah the same type of player anyway?

Further, I like the options that AV & Wally would give us – we could flip them in another trade (attractive expiring contracts) before the deadline, or, if they play well, do a sign and trade in the summer. If they don’t play well, they come off the books and there’s really nothing lost.

Lastly, I might almost prefer the Marion deal for this reason only: a contending team will come calling before the deadline for Marion, guarateed. He would either get us smething good in a trade, or, worst case scenario, come off the books at the season’s end…and his salary $21M!!!! That’s better cap relief than Miller/K9 or Wally/AV. Plus, you have to think that Marion would pout so much, he’d make the Kings lose more games, which I am cool with, because I want Griffin or Rubio (I’m afraid Natt will actually get the team winning some games, which will be detrimental to our draft pick — although the Kings could just as easily go 1-6 over the next seven games…tough schedule coming up!).

That’s my 2 cents for the day. Oh, and AV & Moore are not “mirror images” (unless you mean a fun-house mirror). AV = 9pts, 6.6rpg, 1.2 apg; Moore = 4.8pts, 4.1 rpg, 0.7apg.

Just say no

to Larry Hughes under any circumstances, his contract is horrible.

The more you guys work the trade machine, the happier I am GP is our GM.

Lets just get Gerald Wallace back

Send Brad and Salmons to the Bobcats and we got ourselves a good Defensive SF who can also score.

Beno
Martin
Wallace
Thompson
Hawes

Now we just need to get rid of the NBA´s worst starting PG

Clear its radiance shine...

Sending Miller away

to get an injury prone downgrade at small forward doesn’t get me excited. Salmons is a lot better player than Gerald Wallace right now. And Wallace has one of the worst contracts in the league.

GWall = Godly

It is against my DNA to stop loving Gerald. Some things you just can’t quit even when you need to. I’d take Gerald on his worst day over Bmill on his best.

by Doubl3Dos3 on Dec 16, 2008 11:36 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

worst starting PG?

The numbers don’t back up your assertion. In fact, that was almost as silly as wanting Wallace back. No thanks. Salmons is better on both sides of the ball. Period. Wallace can….well….dunk. That’s about it. Oh, and he can get hurt really well too.

I’ll never understand the love people have for this great athlete with, at best, average skill.

i like this one

i actually like this deal better than bringing in Marion straight up. Marion would just be a salary dump for next year and thats pretty obvious. If we get Varejao and Wally we get a pretty good back up PF and wally is still a very good salary dump. actually if im not mistaken Varejao has a player option so he might be gone aswell. even so Marion coming to Sac makes no sense. we have won just 7 games this year so whats to say he will be motivated in sac? either way if we bring in shawn marion or if we get varejao and wally i think it makes sense to dump off k9 and miller. thats when the rebuilding process is in its final stages. the young guys get there playing time and we get huge cap relief this coming summer. its a win win if u ask me

Hit the clutch, hit the gear, hit the gas and im GONE!!!

by Robby1987 on Dec 16, 2008 10:56 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Varejao = yuck

I have a supernatural dislike for Varejao. Varejao is only marginally better than KT or Moore. Don’t we have enough mediocre power forwards on this team as it is? I guess I’d do it for the chance to dump Kenny Thomas, since Varejao makes slightly less money. Still, Varejao is going to squish Thompson’s minutes and Scissorback is going to squish Greene’s minutes, neither of which is what this team needs.

I’d generally prefer a deal for expiring contracts/picks that doesn’t squish two of our three best young players.

These are Exp. contracts

Varejeo has a ETO & won`t stay around here to back up a 2nd year guy like JT next yr.

Is Varejao that dumb?

Is he really dumb enough to think he’s worth more than the MLE? His previous contract holdout says he is that dumb and will opt out. That’s pretty dumb.

Instead

Trade something to the Thunder that allows us to swap 1st rd picks.
overall
Mikki is probably the most tradeable right now (to whoever) with that buyout..

Why would they ever do that!

They need more help than us,esp. when it comes to someone like Griffin.
We have Hawes & JT,their young bigs suck they NEED Griffin or Thabeet!

Hell i don’t know! – just wishful thinking

Maybe both 1st rounders though? they need a LOT of help and we probably don’t need two more rookies, just one really good one.

Why not this one instead?

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=7968313000556849&teams=2323555&te=&cash=

Miller, Douby, Thomas for Wally & Snow. Both contracts expire at the end of this season, clearing $21M off the books. Plus, no big man is sent back in return, opening up more time for J-Shock & Hawes.

Tangent: I am really starting to believe that Brown should be our starting PG. Put Beno in the backup role. Line-up (until Miller goes buh-bye) should be:

Brown
Martin
Salmons
Hawes
Miller

Post-Miller trade:
Brown
Martin
Salmons
JT
Hawes
