Eddie Jordan (Philly): Hey, would this be a good fit for me?
David Thorpe: Yes, but a team out west would look better!

Just saw this on the chat wrap...
Couldn’t agree more. EJ and Petrie could make each other look like geniuses (again). Please bring back the Princeton…
Beware certitude.

Love it!
Make it happen. The sooner it happens, the better. nothing beats paying three different head coaches at once!

That's only if he's hired this year
which isn’t very likely.

Phil Jackson
He could come here to coach and the Kings would win 25 games. This team needs players better than Mikki, Beno, Miller, K9, B-Jax and Williams. That’s just the way it is. Would Jordan be good for the Kings? Maybe. Maybe not. Depends on what system he runs and what players we have and get and whether they will fit into his system. Few coaches can take any group of players and mold them into winners.

I know he denied interest in a bench position but...
isn’t the thought of Jordan coming in and hiring Thorpe as assistant coach in charge of player development just a little bit intriguing?

GLORIA JAMES!!

I don't know enough about Eddie Jordan to know
if he’s a good option for the Kings or not. He has HC experience, has coached here before, has been fired by Geoff Petrie once (does it hurt as much the second time around?) and is a proponent of the Princeton offense.
If GP really wants him, the Family lets him and Eddie Jordan wants to coach here again then by all means hire him. I’m hoping that Petrie has a far better idea of what type of coach he wants than I or anyone here does.
Ultimately, I hope that Petrie gets the coach he wants as opposed to settling on a compromise that’s acceptable to the Maloof family.

Is it just me
or does Thorpe go way out of his way to mention the Kings as much as possible? I can’t ever remember a small market team having a terrible season and still getting this much national coverage.
by Travis Mays Hayes on Dec 17, 2008 4:17 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
We aren't getting THAT much coverage
Thorpe just mentions us a lot because of how good Kevin Martin has become. There’s probably a sense of pride surrounding his unknown trainee from Western Carolina who happens to almost be an All Star. Probably helps business wise as well

Thorpe probably has more interst in and knowledge of Sac because of Kevin
and becausr the elevation of Kevin’s game has put a lot of focus on IMG and Thorpe. Thope has mentioned that this (StR) is one of his favorite sites as has Henry Abbott of True Hoop both on the ESPN website. Sac gets mentioned in True Hoop more than many small market teams with many references in his First Cup and dailey bullets columns/blogs. Both the Bee writers and TZ are both linked fairly frequently

Abbott is good about linking everybody
The fact that StR and the Bee get quoted is because they’re the best sources for information. There is nothing to quote off, say, Kingsfans.com.

kingsfans is less of a blog vessel
and more of a discussion board. Only one person blogs on that site, and it usually isn’t about anything important besides her feelings about the team.

True
I was just making the point that Abbott doesn’t play favorites, but he only links what he considers to be high quality. If you aren’t blogging, like you say Kingsfans isn’t, Abbott won’t like to a message board.

Also,
Just curious, does anyone know how much he charges players like Kevin Martin?

I like Eddie Jordan...
Timing is everything and a second stint in Sacramento by Jordan could work out better this time if the team can start to turn things around.
Also, I agree with a lot of what betwentheeyes has been saying around here lately, ie a coach who has a workable system and knows how to implement it is essential for any team to go forward, no matter what the talent is on the roster.
Eddie Jordan would seem to be someone with that kind of approach.
I also still think Mario Elie could do a really great job. I remember he had an interview with the Kings around the same time that Musselman “wowed” the Maloofs, but you don’t hear his name come up much in these “next coach” discussions. The guy is real smart, real focused, knows the game backward and forward, and has a special ability to get players to play intelligent tough team defense.

What Veteran Coach in his right mind would want to coach the Kings right now?
Between the owners, the gm, & the players, who needs that kind of torture. We just saw Theus grow old and sad right before our eyes. No Vet Coach, especially one who’s still getting payed by his last team, is going to want to take on this job. Maybe at the end of the year when all the old vets have been moved, and the lottery numbers are picked.
With all the available jobs, the better coaches can pick and choose. Also, there’s the salary situation, how much are the Kings wiiiing to pay and for how long. There paying how many coaches right now?
I’m betting that they don’t hire a new coach until next summer, because their not willing to overpay for who they want and whoever they want won’t come without a big longterm contract.

How much input
would a Vet Coach want in the draft though? Would they want to sign on in time to affect this year’s drafting decisions?
by hozr on Dec 18, 2008 11:56 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Plenty of time
How many NBA head coaches do their own scouting? GP and his staff will have all the players ranked by draft time. The lottory numbers are picked at least a month before the draft.(not sure on dates) So, there will be plenty of time for the new coach to express his opinion. So, early June should be fine. So, the Maloofs will have 2 months after the season ends to hire their new patsy.
