[Ricky Rubio] has a large buyout which complicates things. But if he continues to bounce back from injury (he's had two consecutive good games in the Spanish league) he's a likely Top 3 pick in the draft. I don't think he'll pass that by. From what I can gather from my sources, agents will find a way to get him here.

I think the Maloofs might pay it...
this is where being the blazers would be nice.

Rules
Teams can only cover $500,000 toward a buy-out. Of course the Maloofs would pay it. But the buy-out is reported at several million, if I recall — Rubio would have to pay it out of his salary, which is about $5 million for a top 3 pick.
There’s also the possibility he enters the draft, gets picked but stays in Spain another year, a la Peja.

I didn't finish that thought
The reason to stay another year would be if the buy-out cost decreased in 2010.

Thanks for the Rules Clarification.
I of course being the eternal optimist would welcome him entering as we wont have this good of a pick next year to snag him. There’s really no reason to not enter this year as opposed to next year… as a top 3 pick really has no where to go but down in draft placement.

How many is several?
If it’s 2 or 4 million does he just take it and get it done with knowing he’ll make that much more playing here?

Just saw a report
There’s debate whether it’s 4.75 million euros or 6 million euros. A whole lotta bread.

The other problem is that the euro is still worth more than the US dollar
So that factors in as well, maybe more than the rest of us want to admit.

Forget unemployment, pray so that dollar gets better and we can get Ricky Rubio

Is that over two years?
or annually?
I think it might depend on what kind of endorsement deals he could get out here as well. Hopefully Nike or Adidas will be interested.
Or he’ll just have to settle for Folsom Lake Ford or Metro PCS

Blazers...
Aren’t necessarily in a great position anymore since Darius Miles’ got picked up.

I wish Petrie would've picked him
with the clear intent of having him play and screwing over the Blazers

He'll play 10 games for someone
either with the clips or later on a 10 day contract or some combination (i think)

Are we willing to wait an extra year for Rubio?
That’s quite a gamble for a team that needs, first-and-foremost, a starting PG. We’d pretty much guarantee a second consecutive miserable season if we wait for his buy-out to drop.
With that said, I’m really liking Rubio’s game. He’s so young it may be worth it to gamble on such a valuable talent. But that’s exactly what it would be: a gamble.

The guy has moxie...
I know its very cliché (thanks donté) to say someone has moxie, but the guy at 17/18 was able to come in and run the spanish team in the gold medal game and throughout the olympics without any glitches in his game. You can call that ballsy or anything you want, but to have a floor general like that lead you especially down the road when he has further matured would be amazing… those type of players do not come around very often.

And with Rubio
It might only be a year wait instead of the 2 the Kings waited for Peja.

Blazers fan here..
actually Rudy fell so low in the draft bc there was a good chance he wouldn’t have come over to the NBA. Had most teams known that he would have only been in Spain for one more year, I think he would have been taken higher in the draft, but there was that unknown factor with Rudy. Our organization put in a ton of work to get him here.

The Kings did the same with Peja
When he signed his re up with PAOK in 96. Organizations just don’t get guys over for nuthin. They work at it.

I think I liked the Kings in their contending years more than I liked the Suns.
