I should note
rbiegler predicted a 2009 selection of Curry by the Kings, like, a year ago. I was skeptical based on the PG problems and Kevin Martin’s presence. And I should note Curry’s big assist games and big BIG scoring games (like today’s 44) have not happened together: he scores 35+, his assists are low, when he scores less, he has those big assist numbers.
But DAMN. Can you imagine Curry and Martin passing back and forth and bombing away from 25 feet? You all know I love some Rubio, but DAMN. This kid’s jumper makes me hot.
I really think that doesn't matter
Because, as 27 noted, I think the biggest problem with Reggie I have is how he utilizes JT offensively. This is a 6’11 cat who can dribble and beat guys off the dribble when he picks it up. This is not usual. If Curry doesn’t fit the typical mold, then so be it. Championship teams don’t usually fit the “typical” mold.
No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. It's simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get tangled, you tango on
I like him but...
I dont know if I like him for a high draft pick. I’d rather have a pure PG that can shoot than a pure shooter that can assist – its a different mindset (Paul and Deron type vs Iverson type).
Don’t get me wrong, I think the kid is gonna be good.
It depends on the draft pick
If our selection is high enough to pick Rubio, our selection is almost guaranteed to be Rubio. …Then again, Petrie has a basket full of tricks, so who knows?
I’m thinking our pick is going to be about 6ish and that’s well in the range of Curry’s projection. Keep in mind that we just signed Beno to a multi year, max mid-level, so he’s probably going to eye a 2-guard to back up both Martin and Udrih. Since, I believe, Salmons might get the axe down the road. (due to Garcia and the increasing skills of Greene)
Considering Petrie’s choice of picks, historically, he wants solid guys who are overachievers, not high risk, high reward guys. So, that marks off Jennings.
If the Kings are able to select in the 6ish range, it’ll probably be between Jrue Holiday, Curry (if he keeps these numbers up), or some mystery guy we’ll curse in a drunken rage on draft night.
Rubio doesn't have offensive skills
That Petrie craves.
But damn… that Stephen Curry guys is one HOTT player, offensively.
I need to see more, first.
Point guard has to be #1 priority followed by another big man.
Off topic here but:
Do you take Blake Griffin if Kings win #1 pick?
BOOK IT!
I would think so
Petrie generally has been picking in the 10-20, 20-30 pick range, which makes for a lot more flexibility. Its hard to see us passing up a “sure” thing like BG for a flyer on a potential overacheiver.
Rubio does have some offensive skills
His not a great scorer, but he’s not terrible. Buuuuut… and this is a big but, he can run and offense and make awesome passes. On top of that, he’s a great defender who will annoy the living hell out of guys.

If Petrie Does not take Griffin if he's on the board
Then Petrie would be fired.
Griffin is a BEAST. Last year we had Beasley coming out but Griffin is going to be twice as good as him IMO

A point guard
doesn’t have to score (see Stockon, John) he makes every one else a scorer. Rubio is very young, he has time to develop his own offense.

No worries
no one who picks after #2 when Griffen is on the board will pass on him, if he’s still there after #1 or #2.

Thabeet will be hard to pass up
I wouldn’t. He’s that big man in the middle who can change the game.
But our options are likely to have changed a lot by draft day.

It's a tough call...
Curry is Petrie’s wet dream. A big time scorer off the bench, kinds seems a little like BJax in his heyday, don’t ya think?
It all depends on where we pick and who is available. If Petrie were to pass up Rubio, a true PG who is also an excellent defender, for Curry, someone who plays like someone we already have, then I’d be pretty pissed. Also, if we have an early lottery pick and we can’t get Rubio I kind of feel like we have to go for a good big man. Beno is already serviceable at PG, and a good young big gives us an excellent front court. Personally, I think there are some really good young PG prospects we need to look at.
Here’s what I can’t wait to find out. Does Tyler Hansbrough drop into the 20s where the Rox pick will land? And if so, do we pick him up? I think a front court of Hawes/JT/Hansbrough is pretty damned good. PG prospect in the lottery, former NCAA Player of the Year with our late 1st rounder. That’s a halfway decent draft, no?

In the SF spot
I think Tyler Smith would be great. Could he fall to where the Rockets pick?

The question we all have about Hansbrough
as he must have himself as he did not come out this last year – Is he Mark Madsen/Joe Kleine (reps to Section) or Al Horford/Kevin McHale ? He has much to prove at the next level.

Curry
He could be a top six talent by the time the draft comes around (Rubio, Griffin, Mullens, Jennings, Holiday, Thabeet, in no particular order). If his talent is too much to pass on, Petrie pulls the trigger. For example, I doubt that Petrie would have passed on Eric Gordon at #12 this year, regardless of how much he liked JT, Martin’s presence, or Douby’s productivity. The man’s attitude is that you draft the best player, period.

Completely agree
Jason Thompson was just the best player available this year, surprisingly to some, just not to Petrie. No way he passes on Brook Lopez, DJ Augustin, or Gordon. Taking Curry ahead of Blake Griffin isnt happening.
I hope you are right!

All I can say is
Besides Rubio and Blake Griffin, the number one college player I would want the Kings to take would be Curry..
Other possible prospects of note are Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson and Tyler Smith

What's with all the Ty's?

They all took a trip to Tyland
…….HA! Ahh, I don’t know what I’m doing anymore.
Maybe
We’re fit to be Ty-ed.

Curry
I think Curry is a Top 6 talent now. I don’t see his stock fluctuating much over the course of a season. Davidson could upset North Carolina in the National Championship game and it doesn’t change the fact that he’s largely considered an undersized tweener. Either you love Curry’s pro potential or you’re convinced he’ll be bullied. Given much of what we consider to be Petrie’s drafting preferences (some very real, others exaggerated) I feel he falls strongly in the former category with Curry.
Outside of Griffen, Rubio and Thabeet I think the most intriguing non-Curry kid for the Kings is James Harden at ASU. He’s a shooting guard, which we certainly don’t need, but his rebounding and ability to use strength as a stopper make him employable as an undersized small forward. He’s also a pretty solid passer and to me with the diversity of his skill set another Petrie preferred player (though realistically Harden is most GMs preferred type of player.)
he's small
that could drop him, probably should drop him…
