Hornets Trade Question
Whatup Sactown, I'm a hornets fan, and I have a trade idea that I want to run by yall. How important is Shelden Williams to your team right now. The Hornets really need some bench help, and I was wondering if you would make a move of Hilton Armstron and a second round pick for Hilt.
Hilt is not a good player. He can't score or rebound, and he turns the ball over and fouls too much. But he is a great defender. He is long, and has great lateral movement for his size which makes him a good team and one on one defender, because he has learned how to use his length.
What do y'all think. I know Shelden isnt coming back next year for you, but we sure could use him.

Doesn't work
cap wise. Shelden makes more than 125% of Armstrong’s salary. Even if it did work, I’m not sure why we’d trade an expiring contract for a non-expiring contract just to get a 2nd.

Haha, no it doesn't.
All do respect, no way. As far as the financials not working, you’re right. This would be in conjunction with another move with another team thereby allowing the hornets to make this move and save sacto a little cash this year to partially justify the trade.. I think the going rate for a second rounder is a million bucks.Tack on the savings this year 1.4 mill , and throw in an extra 500k and what do you say?
But Juju and Hilt for Douby and Shelden makes no sense at all. Juju isnt getting alot of minutes but the dude can ball out of his mind.

I really don't see the up side for us
the 2nd rounder is meaningless. Especially a late 2nd rounder. We’ve got 2 1st rounders and our own 2nd rounder next season. I don’t think we’ll be taking on 4 rookies next year.
Maybe we do it like this:
Sac out: Shelden, 2009 2nd round pick.
Sac in: Armstrong, N.O. 2010 1st round pick.
I’d be up for that, but for a 2nd? There’s no point.

The only reason
I wouldn’t do Williams/Douby for Armstrong/James is I wouldn’t want the possibility of paying James $6.5 million next year, just for the opportunity of grabbing a player that is washing out in New Orleans. If it were not for Jame’s ‘09-10 option, I’d say sure, why not?

If Armstrong doesn't block shots
Or rebound at a high rate, or convince the franchise he can defend the block, there is no point in doing this trade.
You guys can keep Julian Wright.

Hilton's benefits
I was honest about wht Hiltont gives, but on the upside he would come in and be your best post defender from the get. Hawes and Thompson are both pretty good scorers and rebounders, and Hawes has been suprisingly good at blocking shots, BUT…
Hilt would come in to Sacto and immediately be your best low post defender. He is more athletic then Hawes, and Bad Ass Brad, has a bit more meat on him then Mikki and he understand defenisve schemes better Jason Thompson. He’d get the same 10 minutes that you’re giving to Shelden. Those resources a less necessary with the Hornets because we have have other post defenders, and what we need is a rebounder. He doesnt need to be as good on d.

True
but what deal works just players for players.
Show us a deal on the trade machine we can say yes or no to.3 or 4 teams whatever.

Good point
Maggette for Julian Wright, and Mike James. Shelden for Hilt. Maggett has already worn out his welcome with G State, but hed be perfect for us. (Off the bench instant offense, a wing player who can create is own shot with CP’s help, a person who draws fouls, a person who slows the pace of the game with his efficient style thereby limiting the touches of the other team and giving the starters more rest, and a player whose defensive limitations are hidden by a very good team defense).

LOVE IT
From our end,not sure if GS takes that for Mags.
Nellie loves those scorers though!
You did sub Capn Jack & Marco for Mags because of Dec.15th,right?
by hudson101 on Dec 7, 2008 1:11 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Well
We are just talking hypos between fans, but yeah, the folks at GSOM loved this trade, and honestly, I think the management would like it too. They committed 5 years to Maggette, and already he has become unpopular with the fans, and some speculate with the team and mangaement as well. The problem is Maggette looks like Nellieguy because helikes to score andhe can’t play defense, but he isn’t really a nellieguy.
Nellie loves pace, and shots and movement. He likes to space the floor for shooters and then attack the rim. Corey’s game slow sthe game down. He has never been a great 3 point shooter especially when not set up with a good shot, and he doesn’t pass the ball.
Juju woudwork for them because although he isnt a three point shooter, he likes to and is used to playing the 4. He is a great defender and has the makings of a true stopper. He is a good rebounder for his size, and a good passer for his size, which would work well with the ball movement that Nellie wants. The biggest upside is that is that Juju is built for an up tempo team. He gets blocks and steals, and he flies down the court, This would give Golden state 3 guys with above average assist rates for their position, which would really compliment Monta.
You might ask if he is so good then why would you trade him. Well he isn’t selfish enough, and too much of what he does is duplicated by posey who at this stage is a better team defender. What we need is a selfish shot creator who draws fouls, and they dont get much better Maggs.

Who goes to the bench?
Peja or MoPete(R.Butler has started last 2 games, maybe both)?
I rather have Mopete than James if I was GS.
by hudson101 on Dec 7, 2008 1:39 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Good point but
Mopete’s contract expires in 2011, and I think G State wants to be a player for 2010 free agents.
I would probably have him coming off of the bench ala Ginobli. I think hed be willing to do it because hes ready to win and hes making his money. Our bench really needs some firepower, and I think just 15 minutes or so with the starters would really open up our offense.
Our starters would be: CP, Rasual, Peja, D West, and Tyson. With Posey still coming off of the bench first to replace Rasual, and then coming in Maggette for the last 3 minutes of the first and for all of the second. Then he would get another 15 between midway of the third till midway to the fourth. Then Posey replaces Rasual for crunch time minutes at the wing.
Also, having Posey play the backup four would really help us because it spaces the floor, and gives Corey more room for drives. This is also why it is so important to get a guy like Shelden in, because with a small 4, we would really need a 5 that can rebound.
And Honestly the only reason I wouldn’t jump at the chance of trading MoPete is that we just signed him, and he has been a good character guy who gets long with the other players. Having said that I would definitely be willing to do Tinsley for Mopete trade if we couldn’t get Maggs. Then we could trade Mike James’ contract for Etan Thomas whom I like less then Shelden but who wuld be adequate.
I think we can only add a max of two players and still keep continuity otherwise you could make the Mopete trade on top of the maggs and shelden trade..

Ugh,
I don`t know how Mags would accept that bench role?
by hudson101 on Dec 7, 2008 1:58 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah
He has had issues with the backup role before. If it was deal breaker, then I’d just switch him with rasual. The horents were a good defensive team last year, but alot of that has to do with Tyson manning the paint and having vets who know where to be. Although hewould be a defensive downgrade from Rasual, it would still work.
I ’m thinking Maggette would get subbed out at after 7 minutes and come back in at thestart of the second fpr another 8 minutes. Then he would play the last 7 and first 8 of the 3rd and fourth quarters. I still wouldnt give him the crunch time minutes though, because our wings shoot dagger 3s in the fourth (I know some conisder Peja a choker, but for us he ahs shot many a dagger 3 toseal the deal in fourth, and Posey essentially made his contract doing the same.

Its too late for GS to be a player in 2010
unless they make a trade move
Cisco? Cisco? CISCO!!!! #*$!%! !
by lietothegirls on Dec 7, 2008 5:35 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Exactly
This move, which dependingg on what they do with picks and current prospects would put them at around 45 million dollars in total contracts
by jdpourciau on Dec 8, 2008 7:28 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Why does GS do this trade?
They give up Maggette and Bellineli for J.Wright? If they are tired of Maggs they can get more for him than J.Wright.
I’m fine with shipping out Williams for Armstrong. At worst, he’s relatively cheap filler at the end of the bench.

2010 expiring contract
I think after signing crawford and extending jackson, they are worried abouttheir cap flexibility, and they would provide a great free agency destination for the right player. Also, they have a duplication of services. Oh and a first round pick. We wouldn’t be able to afford the 2010 pick anyway. And I did the contract that way because technically Maggette isnt tradeable so Jackson and Bellinelli’s contracts equal just a little more then Corey’s and thus it evens out. We would get nor would we want Bellinelli.
Who could/ wouldoffer a better deal? Not Portland or anybody else I can think of. Not everybody needs or wants a one dimensional scorer. Most of the bad teams already have one.

100% Agreed
Didn`t think about 2010 when they signed Mags to 5yr deal. But that was just a reaction from losing Baron.

GSW won't do this deal
They are on a winning streak….(please note date on this post)

He's only a good low post defender
in relation to your other bench guys. How about MM? He IS a pretty good defender, though too skinny. MM + ? for Armstrong and Wright.

You might want to check this thread out:
http://www.sactownroyalty.com/2008/12/7/684360/douby-to-knicks-rumors
In there are two trade suggestions sending you guys the big you may need/deserve. Julian Wright is the sweetener, though, so reader beware. One of them is my idea, so I’d love the feedback, and KingsFanFromCentralEurope’s one is pretty good too if we lived in an injury-free world.

I like it.
I posted my opinion on the thread. My only issue is that it doesnt seem like Sacto is really giving anything up to get Julian, and if the hornets were interested in the move, they might just make it a 2 way trade.

I was worried about the cut-Sacto-out portion
and came up with the Miller-to-the-Hornets idea. How does that one react to your temperament?
