Artest not opting out?

According to Sac Bee, Artest's agent Mark Stevens said Artest likey won't opt out.

"Of course (Artest not being traded) changes a lot of about your perspective; a lot of things change," said Stevens, whose client will earn $7.4 million next season if he doesn't opt out. "Exercising our option at this point is possible, but not likely."

LOL!
At first I didn't understand, then I remembered that you'd been binging on Dr. Pepper all day with Savage Beast.

You're just too sugared up to be able to type, right?

Yeah, I read this a couple of hours ago and thought, #$&&FDSSVY&!@!ZCHBN. If he's not planning on opting out, there goes the next two months of Good Ron.

Sob.

God bless you, Corliss. You always played as though you knew how expensive my tickets were. -section214

That was my first reaction
This is my actual reaction. I can't believe I actually said last night that keeping Artest was worth more than getting expiring contracts. I really wish I hadn't, but I was tired, and I said it, and I believe in taking responsbility for your  actions and all that horseshit, so I'll own up to it.

That being said whomever held up the deal, and understand I'm not blaming the Maloof's for any of this, as it appears to be entirely on Petrie at this point, but if the Maloofs held up Petrie on this I'll be angry. I kinda wish financial input meant more in this transaction in a way (as ironic as that is). Oh well.

All this proves is a Mark Stevens is a drama queen trying to drum up interest and $$$$ for his client. The odds are Bad Ron will show up making for a long 2 months. If the Kings lose Beno Udrih over this shit that is entirely unforgivable.

I'd have a hard time believing
The Maloofs wouldn't be down with dealing Artest. Keeping him almost ensures luxury tax, if they make a run at Beno in the offseason.

But who knows? We will never know what really went down towards the trade deadline. Too bad Petrie doesn't seem like the tell-all, book-writing type - I'd love to hear some of the specifics on his relationship with the Maloofs after he retires.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Artest's previous position that he would likely opt out left the Kings in an unfavorable position, as not trading him meant they could lose him this offseason for nothing in return unless they were able to execute a sign-and-trade with another team. They decided to keep him nonetheless, a move partially motivated by the lack of trade proposals they considered worthy but also because the notion of Artest remaining in their future remains.
Sam Amick is evil. At least he's up front & honest about it. Sam I hate you. Mostly I hate any idea of Artest being part of this franchise moving forward.

Sam Amick isn't evil
"Of course if we can enter into a negotiating process with Sacramento this summer and we can both agree on a contract, it would be favorable because it's security," Stevens said. "Why would we wait an extra year to be put in the same situation that we're in that same summer? If we can get something done, and it's favorable and it's honest, then of course we'd look to do it."

Stevens was quoted by TV station MyFoxColorado on Feb. 10 saying, "Ron easy is a $13 million (per year) player, $14 million (per year) player, but he is not getting paid that."

This whole situation is evil. It's outright retarded the Kings consider Artest is a part of the future because they didn't get premium value in return. My questioning of sane management decisions will now commence.

There's the rub
His agent is probably right about Artest's value as an NBA player, although that dollar amount has to be mitigated a bit by his past character issues.

My guess is he's going to ask for slightly less per year (maybe $10 or $11 million), but want a four or five year contract.

We will all be purchasing Costco-sized bottles of Tums if that comes about.
