GAME 58 at Dallas, Game Thread

This team's greatest victory came against Dallas. On the surface, tonight might be another decent opportunity.

In practice... perhaps not.

It is a 5:30 p.m. tip local time. I do not expect much Beno Udrih success -- not quick enough to burn Jason Kidd and/or the Erick Dampier/Brandon Bass combination. I do expect much Kevin Martin success, however.

I just hope he plays more than 22 mins.
Also hope we can keep it somewhat close for most of the game. So at least it will be fun to listen too. Dallas played last night so we have that going for us. Go Kings!

Pretty good start. up 18-11
We seem to be trying to get Kmart involved early. That's good. Sounds like Kidd guarding Kevin early, interesting.

Good job getting Kevin involved
He's still not shooting well. Only 2/6, but he's gotten to the line 2 other times and has 4 assists. That's a lot of touches. I think that's a good thing. Kings down 3 at the half.

by Kfan in Korea on Feb 29, 2008 6:37 PM PST reply actions

yeah...
pretty sure they're not tanking. they're just consistently inconsistent.

by kingsfaninjapan on Feb 29, 2008 7:04 PM PST reply actions

udrih
overall, he's still inconsistent. but i'd say he deserves to be a starter, and not a great sub.

by kingsfaninjapan on Feb 29, 2008 7:06 PM PST reply actions

wow!
martin dime to miller! martin's ft attempts is a good indicator of his involvement in the game. he's not shooting a good percentage from the field, but he's active. 4 boards and 5 assists with lots of game left.

by kingsfaninjapan on Feb 29, 2008 7:10 PM PST reply actions

why?
why did theus call a timeout. the kings were rollin' along! let's see how the last 2 minutes of the 3rd Q goes. miller stood out there for a second when the timeout was called, like WTF????!!!

by kingsfaninjapan on Feb 29, 2008 7:13 PM PST reply actions

yup
like i said, nice TO to mess up the rhythm theus. artest had at least 8 in the quarter, so he takes him out.

by kingsfaninjapan on Feb 29, 2008 7:18 PM PST up reply actions

WTF
Up by 9, now down by 3. 12 point run by Dallas in last 2 mins.

play of the year. of course it happens against the kings.

Same thing in 1st qtr.
The Kings up 28-19 i the first quarter. I read a short article, look up and its 28-30 Mavs.

This is called championship basketball, I guess.

WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED
Seriously? I mean really. All of a sudden they're down 3 again? A 12-0 run to end the quarter?

WHAT THE HELL?

Worst timeout in the world Reggie. The worst.

Deja Vu
WOW!

I'm laughing hysterically right now. I don't know why. I just can't believe how a terrific run late in the third ends up being another miracle rally 81-72 becomes a 12-0 run as the Mavs go up 3.

Hawes and Salmons
are looking horrid.  Not sure why he's keeping them in.  I'm getting to the point of thinking that, if you don't start Salmons, just don't play him - at least not any meaningful minutes.  He just doesn't seem worth it.

by thelettere on Feb 29, 2008 7:20 PM PST reply actions

exactly!
and theus keeps forcing him into the game!...on another note, why do the kings consistentlt collapse in like that 6 minute stretch between the 3rd and 4th Qs?

They must be tanking
I see no other logical explanation for this.  My perceptions of Theus were quite positive up until this last week or so, when all of a sudden he turned into a moron.

by thelettere on Feb 29, 2008 7:23 PM PST reply actions

theus
you gotta remember he's a rookie at this. he had this team overachieving for most of the year. i think he's just gotta work on substitution patterns, and when to call timeouts. it seems like he hasn't figured out which lineups gel (i don't know if anyone can figure that out with the current personnel!). they need to bring in a psychologist or something.

by kingsfaninjapan on Feb 29, 2008 7:28 PM PST up reply actions

think I'm done watching this team
at least until midterms are over. what's the point?

agree with everyone.. that timeout was one of the stupidest I've ever seen

If you're testing the young guys
do it in the first half...  not an extended stretch towards the end of an eminently winnable game against a quality opponent.

Butters
I think Mikki got some of his clarified butter on Ron's hands because Ron has been handling the ball terribly this quarter.

artest
he makes some dumb ass decisions in crunch time. grab the rebound, don't slap it out!

by kingsfaninjapan on Feb 29, 2008 7:47 PM PST reply actions

Strange stat
Artest 10/22 for 22 points.
Kmart 5/11 for 23 points.

  1. WHY AREN'T WE RUNNING PLAYS FOR KEVIN IN THE LAST 2 MINUTES
  2. WHY DIDN'T WE GET THAT MISSED FT REBOUND
  3. that strange inbound play made me think it was in the stars for the kings to win
  4. why, cisco? why?
  5. without the absolute 1st/3rd meltdowns, we would have won this game

Tough loss
But at least it was an entertaining game, and a good effort. After the last few games, I'll take that.

by Kfan in Korea on Feb 29, 2008 7:49 PM PST reply actions

Another nice game for Beno
10/16 for 25 pts. 5 boards, 5 assists, only 1 TO.

by Kfan in Korea on Feb 29, 2008 7:51 PM PST reply actions

Boo
Some really great play in this game completely overshadowed by some really stupid play.

I like Beno and Kevin.

I don't like Ron.

by The Ghost of Dick Bavetta on Feb 29, 2008 7:52 PM PST reply actions

Stackhouse
He outscored the Kings bench. 15 points for the bench isn't going to get it done.

Anthony Johnson
Is SOO MUCH better than Quincy Douby. In fact, he is an amazing backup point guard. I am so happy to see him play.

Sarcasm off.

AJ is terrible. Really, he is just a robot out there meant to bring the ball up, pass it to someone and then go back and play so-so defense. I would rather see Douby out there even if he's not a true PG.

He can shoot, and he looks great in a suit. Hey, everybody - It's REGGIE TIME!
