Hawes Cracks the Rookie Top 10

ESPN's David Thorpe slips Spencer Hawes into his rookie Top 10 for the first time, and offers the following analysis in his Rookie Watch column:

All season, Spencer Hawes has shown the ability to score, but his recent set of explosive dunks (and offensive tips) as well as his 12 blocked shots in the past four games suggests that he might be more of an above-the-rim player than we thought. Hawes turns 20 in April, and he has the look of a "late bloomer," meaning that his body and athleticism are probably still years away from peaking.

Consider me as geeked as Rivers Cuomo.

Wow
I looked at this last night and he was #18.

Looks like The Shaw might have been picked at the appropriate place in the draft.

God bless you, Corliss. You always played as though you knew how expensive my tickets were. -section214

I love the nickname
The Politician.  What an awesome nickname.  There are infinite "one liners" that can accompany that.  I hope it sticks.

The politician
just vetoed your bill to raise the score. (after blocked shot)

just rejected your defensive policy, and approved a baby-hook in every rim social-welfare plan.

just filibustered your legislation, next time get some Senate support.

just impeached you. (after steal)

Wow.... those suck.

We've got The Landlord and
The Politician. If we can pickup The Corporate Exec, The Lawyer and The Used Car Salesman, we can have an all negative connotation team. ;p Then we can bring The Real Estate Agent, The Godfather, The Drug Dealer, The Hooker and The Rapist off the bench.

SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!

by section214 on Mar 13, 2008 7:51 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Old? Nah.
You're only as old as the music you listen to and the technology you use makes you seem.

If you listen to Weezer and have a blog, that puts you at about 24.

... I act younger than I am?!

(Cuomo's recent B-sides/rarities solo album has some good stuff, for those who moved on after Pinkerton or Green.)

Hey
It's a proven fact that women mature earlier so it's really not our fault. What's wrong with acting like a kid anyway? :P

by kingme on Mar 13, 2008 2:35 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Absolutely Nothing!
Especially considering I've never thought of myself as any older than 22.

And that my vacation of choice involves mice and monorails.

And that I listen to the same music as my kids.

And that I can kick butt on anyone at Wii boxing.

TickTickTickTickTickTick

by LeaguePassAddict on Mar 13, 2008 6:44 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Ummm
Does that mean you hit 22 & haven't had a birthday since?

Disneyland is stupid for any age over 5.

Musical choice is a choice of specific taste. It's not your kid's fault that most musical taste sucks.

Wii? What the hell is a Wii?

(Bitter cynical old man rant over.)

Maybe
I kick butt at Wii boxing because I go to the gym every day.

And Disneyland is only stupid for the cynical. <cough/pookey/cough>(Kidding. you know I'm the founding member of the cynical drunken old man ranting fan club, right?)

And my music taste is wildly eclectic. But I do like some of the current stuff.

As far as birthdays, I know how old I am (which will NOT be revealed on this site) but I FEEL 22 because the people I know who are my age seem...older.

Except you, SavageBeast. Meet me after school and I'll buy you a slurpee.

Wii boxing
Kicks my ass. Great game, but you'd better rehydrate after.

I agree with LPA on Disneyland, I hadn't been there in 30 years or so, and the thought of going again made my stomach turn. But I took my little girl last year and, besides being much nicer (and cleaner) now than it was back then, it's a completely different experience when you go with your little ones.

Beers at the ESPNZone afterwards didn't hurt either.

by Travis Mays Hayes on Mar 13, 2008 10:27 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Meh
I never got into The Rentals. And ever since learning about Sharp's attitude during the Pinkerton creation process (basically being an ass), I'm over him.

I like some post-Pinkerton songs. Actually, many of the raw Green demos are nifty, and some of the pre-release Maladroit rawk junk is cool.

But nothing will compare to Blue or Pinkerton, of course. Masterpieces.

I think
"Politico" rolls off the tongue better.

As a fan of the books
I don't think there's anyway you can pull that off. Spenser is far too cynical for Shawes. Just a personal opinion though.
