GAME 71 vs Memphis, Game Thread

Avenge!

Game's at 7. A win against a poor team would be excellent. A win would leave Reggie's Kings just one win from tying the win total of Muss's Kings.

Artest
Two assists and then a trip to the locker room. Cisco comes in for him and drains a three. Kings by 6 early.

can we
just sit artest for the rest of the season, im tired of seeing kevin standing wide open with his hands up while artest dribbles between his legs to take a 30 foot fadeaway jumper

I think
that we're in for an ugly stretch of games.

those
zone defenses are REALLY tricky to figure out.

especially for the amount of boneheads we have on this team

I think the problem
is that we score quite well against our zone defense in practice.

You could
do a highlight reel on the last ten games of the season and you may not break the one minute mark.

Artest with a 3
as Kings retake the lead. We're attacking that zone a lot better and Warrick has cooled off a bit. AJ is playing well.

Kings up 70-61 after Brad hits Ron for a lefthanded layup.

Griz doing a lot of soloing.

Tied at 87
Kings really struggling with both Martin and Artest on the bench. Both have broken the 20-point mark, and the Kings usually prevail when that happens.

Good Battle
Between Gay and Artest.

Artest has been abusing Rudy when the Griz weren't playing zone, but he gave him a nice bump and then blocked Ron's shot with six seconds left. Then Ron played good D on Gay on the other end. OT time.

Gonna be hard to come by, even with OT.

Poor Brad
In OT he has set up AJ (miss), Matin (fouled) and Artest (miss). He's 2 assists away from a triple double.

This was a win against an absolutely terrible team. The Grizzlies suck. I'm sorry if I'm still not used to playing meaningless games.

Winning Ugly
I'll take it. The alternative is much, much worse.

Martin clutch on those last two free throws. He was 14-14 at the time, so missing there would have really hurt. But he nailed them.

Probably a bad call on the foul on Mike Miller. Not sure whether there was contact on that last play in the key, but that was a helluva smart thing to do to backscreen on Artest. Warwick is a "small" power forward, but I don't think Ron is going to be buying that.

Kyle Lowry looked like a player at the end. If the Griz don't keep him he's someone to consider, even as a backup for next year.

by coolcatreportdotcom on Mar 26, 2008 10:08 PM PDT reply actions

Kmart
10th game in which he's scored 30 this season. The Kings are 6-4 in those games.

They're 1-2 in the games that Artest has scored 30, including that heartbreaker 89-87 loss to the Rockets.

by coolcatreportdotcom on Mar 26, 2008 10:14 PM PDT reply actions

7-0
Kings record when Martin and Artest combine to score at least 50.

Last factoid for the night: Martin averages 36 minutes a night and Artest 38. They've only both played their typical minutes or more in 10 games this year, with the Kings 6-4 in those games.

Good question
Why the hell did they trade Mike Bibby to get a guy the coach won't play even when the team has already been eliminated from the playoffs?

And
Hawes was out for a good deal of the game with his ankle sprain.

Yet another argument
for not signing Mikki Moore in the first place, and yet another reason to move Artest by the deadline if not earlier.

Not yet another argument
Signing Mikki was a sound freaking decision. If we hadn't signed Mikki, the Kings might be playing Kenny Thomas. Just because a coach chooses not to play the youth doesn't make it the veterans fault.

And what does playing Shelden have to do with trading Artest. Are you using the theory that as long as the team has Artest, then it's trying to win now, and therefore not developing any youth?Cause that's a pretty theory.

Mikki Moore in the skills challenge! - LPA

by iashwash on Mar 27, 2008 6:33 AM PDT up reply actions

No actually
My theory is that because Reggie has to appease Artest; he (artest) won't respond as kindly to playing with Williams. Therefore playing Williams alongside Artest provides a bunch of challenges.

Whether or not this Kings team can win is hardly the point. Ron doesn't believe anything he doesn't want to anyway. Especially in the basketball realm of things.

When the Kings get 34 wins,
we'll see more Shelden.  That's my theory anyway.

End of game officiating
I'm glad to get the win, but the end of game officiating was terrible.  The call on Mike Miller was clearly a charge and Lowry was fouled on the last play of the game.  I'd be pissed if I were a Grizzlies fan.

by Carl on Mar 26, 2008 11:05 PM PDT reply actions

The same
officiating crew that called Monta Ellis for taking down Derek Fisher the other night. I think that Delaney, Grillo and Poole have probably had better weeks.

I've gotta say
watching Artest dribble out the shot clock and take either a step-back jumper or a drive into a triple team just never gets old. More of that please.

Definition of a screwy year
The Kings have a better record than the Hawks, who are currently in the 8th seed, with 3 other teams on their heels. Boy I love this NBA. (Oh, and in case you're wondering I still think David Stern is a big fat douchebag. Every day I read something come out of his mouth I want to quit following the NBA.)

I love the West this year. There's gonna be drama come playoff time. It's a shame we couldn't be apart of it

by kingme on Mar 27, 2008 3:00 AM PDT up reply actions

Actually Im rather happy about that
Maybe it will drive the "younger" Kings to strive for such a thing. Maybe this will allow Geoff Petrie to "allow" willingly to break this group apart before it gets worse.
