NBA Announcer Approval Matrix

Thanks to Lang over @ SlamOnline, we have an NBA Announcer Approval Matrix.  I can't say I agree too much with this list though.  I live out in Jacksonville so I have to catch all of my games on "league pass".  As a result oftentimes I'm subject to the opposing teams' announcers during Kings games.

I think compared to other color analysts, Jerry does a pretty good job of explaining what's happening on the court.  Yes has too many "Jerryisms", but he's knowledgeable and objective for the most part.

My biggest disagreement with this list is the position of the the Clippers' announcer.  I almost yakked at the ridiculous homerism going on during the Kings' midseason OT loss down in LA.  The Al Thornton dickriding is going to get worse as Thornton develops into a quality NBA player.

Btw...if Grant is Peaches, does that make Jerry...Herb?

Jerry is just Tonto

It’s the Lone Ranger that needs to eat the silver bullet.

Interesting list

I’m not sure I agree with Breen being the best out there, but hey one’s man opinion is his own.

Breen

I usually like him - he’s certainly in the 95th percentile of NBA announcers - but I don’t like his signature call, “He puts it in!” It only makes sense when referring to a layup or a dunk, but on a jump shot? Nope.

“BANG!” is a great call, though. Like that one.

I don't like

Breen as much as other people. His voice is boring and his screaming of “Bang!” is rather annoying. I’ll take napes over breen. On tv grant is pretty good and i love his energy in the close games. (its his energy on a layup to make the score 4-2 that’s annoying).

Marc Jackson annoys the hell out of me. he has nothing smart to say and just states the obvious. van gundy is the best out of that crew.

I have to say that Marv Albert is the best NBA announcer, with Kevin Harlan right behind him. Their voices are the easiest to recognize and they always remind me of the playoffs. steve kerr was great with marv as well.

when will the Kenny Thomas Reign of Terror end?!!??

Man, Im with you on Marv Albert

And I’m not a big Breen fan, but Kevin Harlan? Sheesh, he is the Michael Bay of basketball announcers IMO.
