Theus Comparison
I saw a recent poll over at our very own Sacramento Bee asking for a grade on Reggie Theus' first season as head coach. Since people here know more about the game and the team I thought I would ask the same question, with a little comparison information to consider.
W L % Ortg Drtg
Sam Vincent 32 50 .390 104.6 (24th) 109.4 (20th)
Marc Ivaroni 22 60 .268 105.0 (22nd) 111.4 (28th)
Larry Krystkowiak 26 56 .317 105.3 (21st) 112.8 (30th)
Reggie Theus 38 44 .463 107.5 (13th) 109.9 (25th)
As you can see, compared to other first year coaches, Theus has the best record. But the defense leaves a lot to be desired (who knew?) Considering we were without key offensive players for a multitude of games this year, I am impressed with the 13th in Offensive Rating, though.

I gave him a 'B'
because it’s not clear to me if he’s running the show or if Ron-Ron is.

That's why I gave him a B too

I also gave him a B
But mostly because he’s made some bone-head first year mistakes, like calling out his players in the media.
Snappy dresser, though. You gotta give him that.

Good point
like calling out his players in the media
That’s bush-league and it will need to stop.

I also gave him a "B"
Rookie mistakes aside, he did a great job directing a team whose starters lost over 170 games to injury. And he got the team to play hard to the end. Only a handful of seasoned coaches could have gotten more out of this team.

So...
what grade do you think he deserves? A B seems more than fair to me.
He hasn’t shown that he can out coach the best in the league, in fact, I’m a bit concerned about his success based on his currently unknown/little-known status in the league.
It’s a bit like other teams being unable to scout the Kings because they don’t have a clue about who will be playing in any given game.
I love the improvement this year, don’t get me wrong. I guess I’m anticipating the Sophomore Slump that comes from other teams studying the player/coach more.
Gosh, I hate being a pessimist, especially since I simultaneously harbor/battle an optimistic streak.
God bless you, Corliss. You always played as though you knew how expensive my tickets were. -section214
