let 'Spoiler Week' begin

Im excited to finally put up my 1st post, so bare with me. Well Kings fan after years of being spoiled with fancy passes, great teams, an late season playoff dreams, the time has come to reassume the role that our old friends Mitch Richmond, the Big Nasty and the L-Train provided us many years ago... or that Ron Ron and Kevin Martin gave us last year. The opportunity to be spoiler has returned, for the 2nd straight year (your welcome Warrior fans). Goodbye March, April madness has officially arrived.

Star-divide

The essentials:

*4 out of next 5 games are against teams fighting 4 position in the Western Conf. playoffs

*The final 7 games are all against .500 or better teams.  Portland being the only team not in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Playing Denver, the Dubs from down the street in Oracle (yikes), New Orleans, the Spurs, not to mention Bean & the hated Lakers... Twice including the final game in Staples on tax day.

There is a great opportunity 4 our Kings make a big pay off going into the off-season with. some quality wins and effect what will go down as one of the greatest Conference playoff pushes maybe in the NBA and maybe pro sports history, as well as make some or just make sure Captain Jack or AI come fishin with us this year. Somebody the Kings play over the next 2 weeks will be sitting home watching on TV. Might as well throw a nice welcome to the Lottery and 1st round exit party with a little cowbell love.

Dude you have an interesting diary
and despite the fact that you didn't put all that many words down, it was extremely hard to read. Some tips:

  • One learn some diary formatting tips. (Actually better get used to them being called fan posts since that's what they're changing to.)
  • Don't use the w/ please. (I realize it means without.) But, one it looks bad, and two not everyone knows what it means.
  • Run on's are hard to read. Please don't use them when writing.

Last but not least a diary is not the same as a post. Your first diary, while interesting and brought about an interesting thought, is not the same as your post. What I'm writing here is a post.

This by no way is a criticism of you. We all have to learn the format here of what works and what doesn't. We all make mistakes (just look back to March of 07 if you want to see how  bad some of my stuff was--long long paragraph without breaks--and rambling points that made no sense--just to name a few), so don't take this personally. It's not designed to shame or pick on you. It's just designed to help format your future diaries/post's better.

yeah
I got the same lecture. Good points all around, helped me out a good bit. The bloggingtheboys link is pretty useful.

Also, you can edit your diary/fanpost, which is useful if you wanna try out some of the stuff.

Yeah about those abbreviations...
w/ actually means with and w/o means without. Your point remains valid nonetheless, its really hard to read through abbreviations, it really breaks up the flow of your ideas.

abbv.
But they do come in handy when you're trying to get your idea across ASAP, especially when your writing skills are MIA and your thought process is DOA. Abbv.'s can help shorten a Q & A as well as an Op. Ed. piece.

You're a bastard
and unfortunately, unlike Peaches, I don't hate you. This severely disappoints me as I feel I'm failing my own standards for hate. :(

To Mo: Thanx for the correction.

Certainly
But now you know what I know pretty much. I hope you continue to write diaries/fan post's. (I hate the word Fan Post's. I'm going to continue to call them diaries. I'm talking about when StR switches over for those who are confused. Anyone who is a McCovey's Chronicle reader already understands.)

McCovey Chronicle's
That is the site the opened my world to sports blogging.  I love the group of people, and the conversation is always good (if not overexposed with cat pictures).  Maybe someday we can get 1500 posts per game.

All that said, I also (greatly) prefer the term 'Diary' to fan post.

I'm one of the few people who didn't
come here via McCovey Chronicles. I remember the old Blogger blog TZ used to have when it was Kings Fans Blog. (I believe Carl used to post there too.) I remember though, the downside of that, was that posts couldn't beyond a certain amount of words.

The new style has some good points, and some bad ones, I think mostly the fan posts vs the diaries, I never once thought negatively of diaries in any way, and it will be interesting to see what kind of things garner attention over the course of time.

New style
I'm not too picky on fanposts vs. diaries, but I really like the fan shot feature. I think I'll be using that a lot.

lol who cares about his formatting
i just really hope we help knock Golden State out of the playoffs.

thats what they get for talking shit after we kicked their ass last time.

The "Yeah they will have a lot of fun watching us in the playoffs" comment hopefully comes back to bite them in the ass!

I've gotta admit
I was rooting for the Warriors to go a ways in last season's playoffs.  This year, I'd be ecstatic if they missed them completely.

They are giving up 108.3 ppg - dead last in the NBA. More proof that they are just a gimmick team that could make some waves in the playoofs, but isn't a legit contender.

Completely agree
I was pulling for the Nuggets to miss the playoffs after skipping out an Artest, the but Warriors new-found-smugness drives me nuts.  I completely hope they miss the playoffs. And since both the Nuggets and the Mavs own the tie-breaker, it looks like they will.

39 Wins
Would be a decent accomplishment considering the Kings have 35 now and will only be favored in one of their last seven games.

Here are the games:

  • Saturday, April 5: at Denver.
  • Sunday, April 6: vs. Lakers.
  • Tuesday, April 8: at Golden State.
  • Friday, April 11: vs. Portland.
  • Saturday, April 12: vs. New Orleans.
  • Monday, April 14: vs. San Antonio.
  • Tuesday, April 15: at Lakers.

Denver and Golden State are fighting for their lives, especially the Warriors. The Lakers, Hornets and Spurs are all fighting for top record, although that could change by the time we play those teams. And New Orleans and San Antonio are fighting for their division crown as well.

by coolcatreportdotcom on Apr 4, 2008 9:58 AM PDT reply actions

Yeah...
how great would it be if a win against Denver helped to knock them out of the playoffs after they passed on the rumored Artest for Kleiza and pick(s) trade?  Ouch, bad call Coach Karl!

by defender96 on Apr 4, 2008 10:43 AM PDT up reply actions

Back-to-backs
Denver plays at Seattle the night after they host us.

The Warriors play us two nights after facing the Hornets in New Orleans and two nights before hosting Denver.

New Orleans comes into town after playing at the Lakers the night before. San Antonio also plays the Lakers in LA before coming here.

The last Lakers game could possibly be meaningless in terms of the standings and the Lakers could be resting some folks ahead of the playoffs.

by coolcatreportdotcom on Apr 4, 2008 3:52 PM PDT up reply actions

Both Laker games...
Are the second game of a back to back, so hopefully we can pull out one.  As for the last game of the year being meaningless I don't really see any possible way for that to happen with the Lakers looking to get homecourt throughout the playoffs and the Suns making a run at the division crowd.  The Western Conference is just so close right now.

by moproblemz on Apr 4, 2008 4:28 PM PDT up reply actions

37 or 38
Man, that schedule is BRUTAL! I'd be surprised if we get more than 2 or 3 wins.  So, my guess is we finish the season with 37 or 38 wins.  Not a bad season considering the changes in the coaching staff, the Bibby trade, the Artest trade rumores, and all the damn injuries we've suffered.

It's funny that at the beginning of the season I looked at this team and predicted a 35 - 38 win team. At the time, though, I felt negative about the team and its prospects.  I feel differently now. Suddenly, 37 or 38 wins sounds OK because I see an upside for this team (though it's 2 or 3 years away). Moreover, these guys play their collectives asses off nearly every game. I can very easily cheer for this bunch.

by Kusian on Apr 4, 2008 1:08 PM PDT reply actions

I feel good
about this schedule because as everyone knows well here, we show up against the big clubs.  even with the pressure to play the young guys, i think theus' competitive nature is going to force him to play the rons and kevins some big minutes.  ron is going to want to play big minutes and win these games, even with no playoff implications for us.  i wouldn't be surprised with five wins out of those seven.  and those teams are going to look at the rest of their schedule and still overlook the kings (even with our quality wins over all of those teams this year).
when will the Kenny Thomas Reign of Terror end?!!??
