Warriors announcers just said
they thought Kmart would be all NBA this year. 6th in scoring, leads league in FTs made(is this true?) Go Kings!

by Kfan in Korea on Apr 8, 2008 7:45 PM PDT   0 recs

I think he broke the Kings season record,
for made free throws in one year, but he's sitting at 13th for the season for FT%

Correction:
I haven't checked this out, but I swear that I remember Peja making something like 60-70 in a row.

How does SpeedRacer beat that with fewer in a row, did he just get to the line more?

Doh!  Speedracer's record might be most points off of free throws rather than a true FT% record.  I don't think KMo has earned the TFT% record yet.

by KK on Apr 9, 2008 9:25 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Actually they posted the graphic later in the game
He's #1 in the league in FTs made per game, at 8.3 per. Maggette and Iverson are second at 7.9 and Kobe is 3rd at 7.6.

He did break his Kings season record for FTs made. 481 last year, 496 so far this year in 20 less games.

Gotta love a guy who gets to the FT Line
10 times a night and can make 85% of them.

Ah!
Thanks for the link...and the clarification.

I really wish we locals could watch the opposing team's feed sometimes.

by KK on Apr 10, 2008 6:51 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

It depends on the feed
That's from years of having watched the other guy. Peaches is a bitch on the airwaves to be sure, or at least on the radio AW's, but on the TV AW's he's a bit more controlled.

There are far worse team announcers out there than Peachosauras Rex.

Pookey speaks truth
During the game, the Kings crew is actually really good.  Since I am always forced to watch whatever League Pass provides, I am familiar with most play-by-play teams.  The Celtics are easily the biggest homers, and the Hawks announcers always sound bored.  Always.  I would say the Kings, Sonics and Suns have the best crews, but I am sure I am forgetting some.

It's funny
I like Mike Gorman (C's play by play guy) and think he's very very good. Others teams I like are: Fitzgerald and Barnett (Dubs), Kevin Calabro (Sonics), Ralph Lawler and Mike Smith do a good job, and I always enjoy hearing Stu Lentz, even if you 27 consider him to be a jerkoff.

How much would you pay...
How much would you pay (to charity of course) for one of the Kings Broadcast Team members (be it Koz, Fat, Kayte, Angela, or Jerry) to throw it back to Grant by calling him Peaches.

"And now it's time for the second half, let's throw  it back to Peaches and Jerry."

I'd chip in a good portion of cash for that. Especailly for Jerry to turn to him and go "I don't know Peaches, I think Beno's doing a fine job replacing Mike Bibby"

I'm Grant Napear's favorite fan.

happier with my donation.

Shoot, I guess I should just send it to them anyway.

Sheldon Williams
should not play another game in the NBA ever again.  He is far to slow/lazy/fat/out of shape/half-retared....

We should trade him for Candace Parker!!

Shelden Williams
I think I've seen enough of Shelden Williams now to say some educated things about him.  This is going seem like a rehash of a lot of the other info about him, but I like to make up my own mind, even if I end up agreeing with everyone else in the end.

First, the good stuff:
Seems like a good character guy and I'm willing to bet he's a hard worker.  Extremely strong and ridiculously long arms.  Can often go up and through people to score and will bang down low.  Decent jump shot to about 15 feet and decent moves around the basket.

Now, the not so good:
Horribly ground bound.  Often gets jumped over for rebounds by taller and more athletic players.  Slow running the floor.  A foot race between Shelden and Brad Miller would be competitive, which isn't a compliment.  Not very active on the floor.  I see shots he should have contested and rebounds he might get with a little more activity.  Shelden's build, height and athleticism remind me of Corliss Williamson, though Corliss was much more skilled in the low post, and Shelden is the better rebounder.

I'd like to see Shelden continue to play heavy minutes, but he looks like a career bench guy to me.  I think he would be better off in a half court offensive system.  His most likely career path is as a guy who can bang people around, rebound a bit and give hard fouls.

Player comparisons: Malik Rose, Eduardo Najera

by Carl on Apr 8, 2008 11:11 PM PDT   0 recs

Great analysis, Carl
Spot on, though I will add this - Corliss got blocked a lot (and blocked out a lot) in his first few years. Once he learned how to use his strength and width he became a much better NBA player. It remains to be seen whether The Landlord can learn those same lessons.

Also, I'm beginning to worry that Shelden's hands may have been manufactured by the same people that fashioned Mikki's claws.

That said, being in NBA shape can cure a lot of that, and Reggie has mentioned that Williams needs to be in better shape.

Non-related: Last night was the best advertisement I've seen for Spencer spending a summer in the weight room. Biedrens moved him all over the place.

If you're going to come here strictly for the purpose of starting shit, move it along.  We've got a community that's free from trolls, morons, shit disturbers and other malcontents.  We don't need you to be the first.

by Carl on Apr 9, 2008 1:11 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yours is a sig worthy post.
I am a little torn since I'm still so fond of Corliss's play and love my tag line, but your entire post is signature worthy and should be immortalized somewhere!  I almost switched my tag to your post.

He/she (troller) isn't even close to first place as a troll...but is certainly in the running for the dumbest of all time.  I seem to remember worse.
