I'd be excited
If anything happened past an agreement to talk more. All this did was give the people who hate the Maloofs because they’re rich a chance to bitch about how the Maloofs aren’t like us because they have money. Of course they have more money than us. Every owner of any pro team ever has more money in their bank account right now than I will ever have in my lifetime. If you’re going to hate the Maloofs because they have money, then prepare to hate every owner ever. Owners aren’t like us, that’s why they’re owners.

Agreed.
I’m absolutely sick of people finding a million and one reasons to dump on the Kings. I’m willing to listen to valid criticisms (infrastructure, traffic) but I’m tired of people bringing up their pet issues as if the Kings not being Sacramento would somehow solve all the its problems.

California has a 20 billion dollar debt.
Isn’t it great they have a lot of money, I certainly don’t want to foot the bill for people who have the money to pay for it….I would never have the gall to ask people to pay for something that would put the majority in further debt, and to benefit a family who cares nothing about us (who are not like them), laughs at us and all the way to the bank because we did this for the kings!!

What makes you think
That you aren’t already footing the bill for people who have the money to pay their own way? City and state governments are in the business of enticing new business and keeping current business. And that is generally done through subsidies and incentives.
The Maloofs aren’t different than many large business owners. If you think sports owners are the only entities being subsidized by state and local governments in California, you’re crazy.

Please don't feed the trolls
it only encourages more of them to show up. Let them ignorantly flame away on other sites, this can only end badly if you try to reason with them here .
Those against the Maloofs and the Kings have an agenda and will not be swayed by reason or reality…because (in their minds) without the Kings and those Las Vegas millionaires in Sacramento, their lives would be just peachy perfect.

Not being in Sacramento any more
I’m not up on all the ins and outs of the financial aspect of an arena deal, so I’ll just add my two comments and let it go at that.
1. I wish they could have found a way to make this work downtown, but having the area be in a “multi-use” entertainment area is encouraging.
2. Their penchant for bad haircuts notwithstanding, the Maloofs are not inherentley evil, and while I don’t think an arena should be funded entirely out of the public coffers, since it seems to be the norm around the country to use some municipal monies for such projects, I don’t see why we should expect the Maloofs to foot the entire bill simply because they’re rich.
But, then again, I’m blonde and I don’t live there anymore.

You forgot
the housing market crash
rising crime rates nationwide
the falling stock market
9-11
and, last but not least,
It’s the Maloofs fault that I spend way too much time on SactownRoyalty…because there’s no such thing as free will and personal decision making when the Maloofs are in town. Pretty much applies to all of the above, with the exception of 9-11.

Agreed
Some sort of Public – Private split would be fair. But if they can get it done at Cal-Expo for no public money, and finally upgrade the freeway in that area at the same time, that’s be awesome. ‘Course I don’t live there anymore either.

I think the reality is difficult
I think any plan that uses public dollars is hopelessly doomed to defeat at the polls. So the Cal Expo plan might be the last best chance for a new arena in the area.

Yup
I agree with otis29 100%.
Even with all of the subsidies/loans for ARCO II, the road improvements were made at public expense. If they can pull of the remodel of the fairgrounds and the building of a multi-use arena owned by the public without using public tax dollars AND fix the Capital City Freeway (using public money)?
Sweet!
