Mariotti takes shot at sacramento in his column.
While discussing D'Antoni going to the Knicks instead of the Bulls, Mariotti attacks Reinsdorf by saying, "Since when did we become Sacramento?" I dont know if he's talking about us losing S. Van Gundy, not extending Adelmen's contract, or hiring unproven cheap labor in Muss and Theus but one thing is certain, he's using us as the standard for poor ownership decisions. i disagree with him and hope Theus proves himself next year, although in hindsight Id like to call a mulligan and give adelman an extension but we're still rootin for reggie.

My dear Mr. Richmond...
You’re giving Jay Mariotti entirely too much credit. I would prefer his shot was a veiled reference to our ownership. On the contrary it was the same lazy knock against Sacto made by every big city writer in every big city publication, that we’re an undesireable location for players to play, no one wants to be here, we’re a cow town blah, blah, blah. That’s why the Sacramento slight comes before his litany of players and/or coaches that have gone to locations other than Chicago.
Loosely translated… Jay Mariotti is still a d*uche.

you must be good at math
because you suck at reading comprehension. He listed all those players because they had interest in coming to chicago but management couldnt make it happen. Its true that Sacto is an undesirable place, Webber said he cried as he flew over the squared off farmland around sac but chicago is far from undesireable, they have talent, a huge market, a nightlife, 5 other professional teams(cubs, w sox, bears, fire, and blackhawks), and in a few years will more than likely have DWade.
In the article Gasol said he thought hed end up in chicago, it wasnt that he didnt want to go there it was that management didnt get it done. Chicago was one of the few locations kobe was open to but management didnt get it done. D’Antoni was thought to prefer chicago and most thought it was a better fit for him but went to the knicks and why you ask? because management couldnt get it done. And you may think that Mariotti is a “d*uche” but hes more successful at writing his column than you are at anything in your life especially reading comprehension.

No reason...
to get testy. I’m assuming you aren’t Mariotti (and if you are, don’t get mad at me, I actually like you, I’m one of about 3 people who voted yes on your Deadspin Media Approval ranking, I’m just very defensive of my dear city) so I’m not entirely sure why you broke into the whole “he’s better than you are at anything in your life but…” bit, which doesn’t really seem to have any validity in regards to supporting your assumption, and doesn’t convince me of anything other than the fact that Buzz Bissinger may have had a point.
Anyway I’m 110% certain I’m right, but as opposed to arguing it with just you and risk having yet another level of my comprehension insulted, I’m posting the article link and leaving this to the discretion of other readers…assuming other readers care.

Mariotti may be a good writer
But I’ve seen him on ESPN (or some other channel), and he seems like a self-centered bullshitting hack. And this:
And you may think that Mariotti is a "d*uche" but hes more successful at writing his column than you are at anything in your life especially reading comprehension.is some of the stupidest shite you can say to an anonymous person on the net.

I completely agree
Richmond you need to get a hold of your life if you’re going to attack everyone who disagrees with your interpretations of something.
Also mariotti is more than a douche, he is an arrogant dumb fuck who is lucky to have such a cushy job at Around the Horn. It pleases me that most of the respected writers around the country completely dislike him.

Jay-”Since when did we become Sacramento? And why are the Bulls so sluggish and wishy-washy about every big decision that comes their way? Aren’t we all tiring of Kevin Garnett going to Boston, Kobe Bryant staying in L.A., Gasol going to L.A., D’Antoni going to New York - and Reinsdorf and general manager John Paxson just sittting there, making excuses, spinning bull to the gullible local media and letting life pass them by 10 years after a dynasty was prematurely dismantled?”
now youre quote
“I would prefer his shot was a veiled reference to our ownership. how is that about chicago being a cow town like sac how is that about chicago being undesirable when its where kobe wanted to go, gasol thought he was going there, and Garnet reportedly would not have turned down a trade there as he had initially with the celtics. This is all about their management. and their managements inability to do anything worthwhile so if the comparison is valid it should be one comparing them in managerial terms. Not once does mariotti mention anything about the nightlife or the cows.

I'd agree with...
your contention if, in fact, there was anything Mariotti specifically said in his article in regards to Kings’ management being inept. Sacramento as an underwhelming location for athletes/reporters/coaches is a long held and oft used cliche of the media (one reinforced when guys like Webber and Artest refuse to come here initially after trades.) The cowbell the most obvious trope in that regard. I have heard very little, even in the Sacramento media, regarding the ineptness of the Kings owners and management-unless you’re exclusively reading NoNewArena’s comments-short of their mishandlings of the Adelman/Musselman situation and subsequent fallouts. It’s not like the Front Office has tried for exotic trades and come up goose eggs, or fruitlessly pursued free agents at the risk of not nurturing their own roster.
I realize your point, which is that Management has failed in Chicago, and that’s the point of the “Since when did we become Sacramento?” comment and correlation to our own situation. But again I would insist, time and time again, that said rhetorical question is in reference not to our management, but to the fact that it shouldn’t be hard to attract people to play in the Windy City and managements inability to land a Garnett or Kobe or Gasol would be understandable if, in fact, Chicago “had become Sacramento”. It reinforces the point that all three of the aforementioned and D’Antoni wanted to be there. Chicago isn’t Sacramento, how has Reisendorf allowed it to become said city. The question is in reference to precisely what you say it is in reference to, but for precisely different reasons than the ones you’ve assumed.

1st of all
Thanks for finding the article, richmond.
What is the statute of limitations on a feeling of superiority? Is it longer than 10 years? Because over the last 10 years the Bulls have played to a .367 winning percentage, which equates to a 30-52 average record. They have finished over .500 twice in that span. Meanwhile, the Kings achieved a .591 winning percentage, which equates to a 48-34 average record, with seven .500+ seasons. So who has had the best product in the 21st century, the Kings or the Bulls?
It’s difficult to really grasp what Mariotti was really driving at here. Is it the SVG thing? Geography aside, I would have chosen Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis and Hedo over Brad Miller, Kevin Martin and Ron Artest too (mostly because of Howard). And remember, Orlando was spurned by Donovan before turning to SVG.
In the Bulls case, they got outbid for D’Antoni, period. What’s the big deal?
And the idea that players won’t come here? Pish posh, rubbish, old news, outdated. As I have said here before, give me some documentation. Webber crying? That was over 10 years ago, and if memory and K9’s(woof’s) lingering contract serves, Webber turned around and signed a long term deal here. Players in their prime sign for the most available money. Players past their prime sign for a chance at a ring. Period. Who in the last 10 years has refused to come here? Who?
I think this just comes down to a writer that was too lazy to update his “team to insult” card in his rolodex. Memphis would have been a good choice. Or Minnesota. I mean really. Who has had the better ride over the last ten years? Kings fans or Bulls fans?

Van Gundy
Meant to say earlier in this post that as Richmond pointed out and Section corroborated it could easily be a reference to Van Gundy, but again I’d say it’s much less an indictment of poor ownership decisions (remember, Van Gundy ditched US, it had nothing to do with mistakes made by Petrie and the Maloofs) and much more an indictment, again, on Sacramento sucking. “Wait, Chicago is getting ditched by a coach?!? What are we? Sacramento?”

Some points before my time expires
1 this article had nothing to do with Sacramento, except maybe with the small point that Mariotti thinks it’s irrelevent. Good. He’s a stupid self deluded twit with the english of a cue ball.
This entire article was about the Bulls being cheap in their handlings, and in the larger picture, of being run cheaply to the detriment of the franchise, particularly with in-city standing so much at stake constantly with no dominant Chicago team littering the landscape. Well there was once, actually, but that team was dismantled by a ton of things (Krause and Reinsdorf get blamed, and deserve some, but Jordan and Jackson deserve equal shares of blame.)
As far as the other stuff of the article that Mariotti made, there was some interesting stuff. The point about Jordan being the owner was an interesting one. Does anyone want Jordan being an owner with how poorly things have run for the Wizards Bullets and Bobcats since he arrived there? Interesting thought, but Mariotti has always been a Jordan dick-licker. There is no shock that he would do so again.
Last but not least Rock why even post this? Mariotti isn’t clever enough to insult Sacramento, and if you’ve never been to the place, how can you feel insulted? Aren’t you an OKC resident? I am quite confused of what the point was in posting this crap. Good luck with the lobotamy though.

I'm glad richmond posted the article
An innocuous Sacramento reference is still a reference. And it’s not like we’re in busy season here. And some of the thread has been worth reading. Just my opinion.

For one you seem to be arguing a side point
And while I agree with your side point that the ensuing result made the beginning of this tolerable, it still doesn’t justify the actual posting of the original article. If you really wanted to talk about it, go to Blog A Bull. That’s the whole tone of the article. It’s about Jerry Reinsdorf/John Paxson being cheap/slow. Mariotti only called Sacramento small-time and, that’s his opinion. Since when does Mariotti matter in Sacramento? I don’t think he matters all that much in Chicago truthfully.
(Section I was making a point. You are, in practice, totally correct. I was speaking from a totally theoretically point of view. Sorry if that wasn’t as clear as I should have made it.)

I believe the title of the post pretty much alluded to what was inside so rather than bitching about why i posted it, i think the more pertinent question is why did you read it although it was cute when you called me Rock.
