Fargo Goes "Kermit Washington" On KJ

It was only a matter of time before Heather Fargo resorted to this. Maybe she's just sore because she could never do this.

So KJ’s face will never look the same? I can’t tell, the linkl doesn’t work.

The Link

It’s working when I click on it – it’s The Bee article where Fargo wants the KJ “case” reopened.

It wasn't working for me either

but it is working now. Must have been a problem with the SacBee website.

TZ

I generally agree with just about all of TZ’s post, but I have to say that I have not agreed with him with regard to KJ. The election was too far away to rule him out when he did. Moreover, and perhaps more importantly, he underestimates what an intellectual and political lighweight Heather Fargo is and will always be. KJ will be the next mayor, and he will win with a substantial majority – as he should.

Yeah, I suppose I just live in a dreamland where persistent accusations of harrassment of a minor (however dubious) combined with the appearance of a potentially shady cover-up disqualifies you as a challenger to the mayorship of a fairly major city. This world town is bizarre.

You’re right, he’s not out of this. Especially if Fargo keeps this passive-aggressive behavior up. When will politicians figure out sincerity has made an unlikely comeback?

by Ziller on May 22, 2008 7:13 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Couldn't agree more

There is no reason why KJ should end up being Mayor of Sacramento, with multiple alleged incidents of improper behavior with underage girls. Funny, I always thought that was an automatic dealbreaker for a politician – maybe not in this case.

But Fargo asking for the reopening of the case doesn’t sit well either. Does she do this kind of thing across the board? My guess is no, meaning her conflict of interest here makes her look worse for bringing it up.

In a perfect world, I’d be rooting for KJ – but once the “dirtbag” label is applied in my mind, it’s hard to remove it.

innocent until.....

As soon as anything is proven related to KJ and the alleged incidents, I’ll change my vote. (Though, I’ll hate it.) But, here is the deal: allegations are just that – allegations. He’s not been charged and obviously not convicted of anything.

I’ll admit I have a bunch of self-interest in this: I think KJ will deal with the Kings better than Fargo. But, I’ve always been one to be a bit distrustful of the justice system. People lie; kids lie; cops lie. It’s up to others to prove KJ did something illegal; he shouldn’t have to prove he DIDN’T do anything.

Just one guy’s opinion…

by Kusian on May 22, 2008 9:12 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Don't be confused

This has nothing to do with the Justice System™ and everything to do with the Court of Public Opinion which plays by a completely different set of rules (hint: there aren’t any).

by smgmatt on May 22, 2008 9:28 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

And chiming in from Placer County...

The fact that these allegations have not pushed KJ out of the race is a testament to just how tired people are of Heather Fargo. KJ would probably be long gone if his opponent was of Joe Serna quality.

If I lived in Sacramento County I would be voting for Johnson. Nothing has been proven, and were that to change he would be drummed out of office.

One more note – The fact that the mayor’s office is asking the police to get together with the DA to reopen a misdemeanor case whose statute of limitations has long expired is amazing to me. I understand the interest from the feds, as St. Hope receives federal funds. But this move by Fargo is wrong. What’s next – ask the IRS to pull Leonard Padilla’s tax returns? This could wind up blowing up in Fargo’s face.

It's probably unfair

But there are certain issues that prejudice my opinion towards a public figure. Abuse directed towards women, children or animals specifically. Once I’ve heard it, even in rumor form, I’m just unable to look at that person the same way again. Hell, I was a Ron Artest fanboi until the deals with his dogs and his wife.

Additionally, while KJ shouldn’t have to prove he didn’t do anything, that benefit of the doubt applies only to a courtroom. If we were under those restrictions on the internet, most blogs and message boards would be Hello Kitty equivalent. :)

My thinking when I hear something like this about an athlete is first – it’s probably true. And second – how many times has it happened before and been swept under the rug or ignored by some athlete-worshipping police officer or prosecutor? I guess I’m just a cynical bastard.

You are correct though, anyone short of Dave Jones is probably a better fit as Mayor for Kings fans than Heather Fargo. If KJ does happen to win the Mayorship, I’ll have to see that as the silver lining. I won’t even have to hold my nose and vote for him – I live in El Dorado County now. :)

And...

We’ve just been given a real time one two punch of reasons why this election is so divisive, destructive and difficult to gauge. Because I don’t think any of us would realistically disagree with either Section or Otis’ arguments. Or if we did disagree with them would at the very least not sympathize with the sentiments both express.

I've read the relevant documents

Two thoughts in the same head here, so follow me on this:
One:
I’ve read the relevant documents in regards to the girl in Phoenix. It’s very clear to me that there was significant and unforgivable wrongdoing on KJ’s part in that case. As far as the other case(s) go, where there’s smoke, there’s probably fire. I can’t in good conscience vote for Kevin Johnson.

Two:
Heather Fargo is CLEARLY abusing her office in asking the police to reinvestigate. Has she EVER asked them to reopen another case? Does she even have a right to do this? And finally, the “new information” she sites is from the PHOENIX case, which has nothing to do with the Sacramento case from a legal standpoint. This is clearly political grandstanding, which I really frown upon. What’s worse is that she is abusing her office, which I absolutely cano’t stand. Fargo has been WOEFULLY ineffective as mayor. I have major problems with lack of redevelopment Downtown, the ATROCIOUS job the city did developing Natomas, the lack of movement on the railyard, and the lack of real action on fixing the flood control problem. I cannot in good conscience vote for Heather Fargo.

So I’ll vote in the election, but I’m abstaining from the mayoral vote because they both suck.

Dizzying Intellect
“But it’s so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy’s? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.” -Vizzini

On a more serious note, there are at least 3 other mayoral candidates that you can vote for (although you wouldn’t know it from the sample ballot they sent out).

Nice!

Hehe – I love it.

I’d love to have more than a two party system in this country and more than a two person race for mayor. Unfortunately, we have neither and none of the other mayoral candidates has a chance to win. I vote ‘None of the above.’

James Carville is rolling over in his grave.

The one aspect of this debacle that, more than any other, I find politically incomprehensible, is Fargo’s insistence on inserting herself into this sexual misconduct maelstrom. She basically had a one way ticket to a third term written up on a Maricopa County police blotter if she’d simply stood in the background and let the accusations (however dubious) sort themselves out. It wasn’t like the media wasn’t going to cover it with or without her involvement (I’m admittedly shocked KOVR 13 has yet to make an “Is Kevin Johnson really a pervert?” billboard for that bizarre Asking Questions, Getting Answers advertising campaign…incidentally NO State Workers are not making more money than you are…) Anybody who’d taken a High School level Civics class could tell you to never insert yourself into a story, lest you risk becoming the story, so what did Fargo Inc., in their infinite wisdom, decide to do? Insert themselves in the story. Now it’s impossible to discuss the St. Hope accusations without Fargo’s vindictiveness inevitably also addressed. It’s an incredibly unsavvy move politically made by an individual uniformly despised for her lack of political savvy. Steinberg as Senate Pro Tem be damned Richie Ross clearly jumped the shark politically when he pursued that equally miscalculated No On the Recall, Yes on Bustamante campaign 5 years ago…

And it’s unfortunate there weren’t any violent criminal incidents connected with St. Hope, at least that way maybe Mayor Fargo would have expressed some interest in the city’s soaring crime rates.

Clearly

This issue is not yet getting the traction Fargo would like. But injecting herself into it in this manner is Tyson-stupid.

From an interview with SN&R

Fargo was interviewed by the Sacramento News & Review and was asked about the allegations against KJ:

This is the kind of thing that would be very distracting if you were mayor. But it’s not for me to respond. Some people have wondered if it all came from our campaign, but we didn’t create this.

When I originally read this I applauded her for staying out of it . . . but as you said Otis, it must not have gotten the traction that they wanted it to, so now they’ve thrown themselves into it which just makes them look shady.

They may not have created this, but they’re sure doing everything they can to sustain it . . . which could end up being their downfall.

by smgmatt on May 22, 2008 10:03 AM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

But...

Wasn’t the situation doing a good enough job of sustaining itself? I mean Fargo announced she would reopen the St. Hope case a day after the Bee published the story about the $250,000 Phoenix payout. Which was without question the most inflammatory and potentially damning thing that had been written about Johnson.

by rbiegler on May 22, 2008 10:10 AM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

It probably would have, but...

You already nailed it in your original post…

It’s an incredibly unsavvy move politically made by an individual uniformly despised for her lack of political savvy.
