Joe Axelson, Dead at 80
The AP reports Joe Axelson, a former Kings GM and one of the guys who orchestrated the Sacramento move, has died at age 80.
Though he was responsible for such things as Joe Kleine, Pervis Ellison, Coach Bill Russell, Coach Jerry Reynolds, and Coach Dick Motta, he's generally been given a pass as a key player in the franchise's early-Sac history. I mean, historians don't really hate Aaron Burr, you know?
Best wishes to the Axelson family. I imagine some of you who were older than 5 y/o when the Kings arrived will have extended thoughts.

Joe Axelson
Mr. Axelson used to drive me crazy with some of the decisions that were made while he was the GM, but he was forced to operate a team on a shoe string budget, and Billy Beane had yet to write “Money Ball.” All told, the Kings may not have won much while he was at the helm, but it was new and it was exciting and it was fun.
A man’s career pales when compared to a man’s life within his family, and my bet is that Joe Axelson was loved where it counted the most. My deepest prayers go out to the Axelson family during this time of tremendous loss.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Axelson.
As usual, section214, you cut directly to the heart of the matter and see what is most important.
Well done, sir. Again.
God bless you, Corliss. You always played as though you knew how expensive my tickets were. -section214
