PG Comparison (mmmm, charts)
Draft Express has release a nice article detailing some comparisons between the big name point guards coming into the draft. I have not yet seen it here on StR, and dunno who else checks out Draft Express, but I found it quite interesting....
...It was interesting to compare DJ Augustin and Russell Westbrook, two of the more desired PGs that we readers constantly bat around as being potentially available at the #12 pick. I know numbers don't mean everything, but hey, they gotta mean something, right?

if you love stats. Nice find, sactoreg.
I temper these stats only with the fact that NCAA games are played at a far more varied pace than NBA games. For example, UCLA actually plays at a fairly slow tempo. They take their time on offense, though they do take full advantage of transition opportunities, and they grind away at you on defense (sort of a college version of San Antonio). Texas and North Carolina are more up tempo.
I think that the stats to show that Lawson and Ausgustin are more polished as point guards than (say) Bayless or Westbrook. I think that for the next two years Lawson and Augustin may be more ready to contribute, at least as off the bench, pace point guards, while Bayless and Westbrook will have to make more adjustments. The question is who will be the better players in year #3?
I would still be very happy with Westbrook or Augustin, but failing at that I’d love to figure out a way to grab Lawson without giving up the #12 pick (Salmons and a 2nd rounder to Cleveland for the #18?).
By the way, DraftExpress now has Anthony Randolph dropping to us…

Maybe
Because he was expected to go in the Top 6-8 as recently as last week, and now the Kings could get him at #12 without having to make a trade to do so?
Just guessing here.
Me, too

Thanks for the answers (I was curious, and not being a smartass)

Seems like a Lamar Odom clone to me
Not the worst thing in the world. (I won’t call Odom a nutcase out of respect to the tragedies he has suffered.)

Where's OJ Mayo?
First of all, great find.
That said, I was very disappointed to see that OJ Mayo wasn’t included in the analysis. I even had to double-check to make sure they listed him as a PG on their Draft Board (yup, PG/SG).
This seems like a huge omission for an otherwise fantastic statistical analysis.
Mayo
1) His turnover’s drove him right off the charts.
No?, OK -
2) His check didn’t clear so they left him off the analysis.
Or maybe -
3) The charts were prepared at a deli, someone screamed out “Hold the mayo!...”
I agree. It would have been nice to have him on there.

thanx for the props
...and yeah, i am surprised mayo isn’t on the list. but hey, who knows…maybe the site is expecting to do a similar analysis on shooting guards, and they classify mayo as more of a 2 than a 1.
Why not both?
Personally, I would have liked to have seen some of the “combo” guards on both lists, because they don’t have a definitive position in the L yet.
Wow
and Alexander has moved up to #8 on their board with Brook Lopez all the way down to #9. It also has the Kings taking another SF at #42 in Malik Hairston and Nathan Jawai at #43.
I’d think that Petrie would go for a PG in the 2nd round if Randolph was selected at #12. Seems unlikely they would pass on Lester Hudson, George Hill or Mike Taylor in favor of another 6’6’’ guard, especially one that underachieved at Oregon. Hill looks decent on these charts though he’s obviously a scoring-point and less of a distributor.

I just love
a person that looks at the 2nd round picks. You’re a sick individual, just like me.

Why not...
...Goran Dragic as a 2nd rder? He can’t shoot but apparently he is a ball-hawk. Wouldn’t mind taking a flier on him to see if he could be a defensive spark off the bench.
Dragic
He’s been mentioned here before. Here’s his bio, though “Best Case – Jason Hart / Worst Case – Orien Greene” is frightening.

But...
...if we go big at 12 (and I think we should), then we aren’t going to get a franchise PG in the 2nd rd. I won’t speculate on any trades since we really don’t know. To me, that means we re-sign Beno, let him start, pick up FA PG or commit to Douby (scary) to back-up and we can draft Dragic as our stopper. Of course, if he ever pulls up for a 3 I’ll be closing my eyes, but with Paul and Williams in the West we surely can’t depend on Beno to stop them.
I don't think
we’re the only sick individuals here section, I’m waiting for Pookey to chime in…
And hey, there have been some alright players taken with the 42nd and 43rd picks:
42- Daniel Gibson to Cleveland, 2006
43- Trevor Ariza to New York, 2004
(44)- Keith Bogans to Milwaukee, 2003
(44)- Michael Redd to Milwaukee, 2000
42- Stephen Jackson to Phoenix, 1997

Lawson is very good!
Reading this makes me believe that Lawson is much much better than anyone in the league is giving him credit for. He was on the top of almost every chart in that article… I’ve been saying it all along; Lawson’s going to be a sleeper if he’s in this draft. I’d be happy taking a big at #12, then packaging the 2 second rounders and Salmons to trade up for a 20+ pick, so that the Kings would be able to secure Lawson.
Lawson
All Lawson had to do was to pass to Tyler Hansborough. Even I could do that.
BOOK IT!
And -
all he would have to do here is pass to Kevin Martin and Spencer Hawes. If you can do that too than let’s call off the PG search, put you in touch with GP for a tryout, and let’s set to drafting a PF.
