Sactown Royalty Draft Contest
WHO WANTS A T-SHIRT (AND BRAGGING RIGHTS)?!?
Then enter the Sactown Royalty Draft Contest. Here's how it works:
- In the comments section of this post, let us know who you think the Kings will draft with their 1st round pick, and then their 2nd round picks. Whoever gets the most picks right wins the next Sactown Royalty T-shirt (coming soon!).
- Super Duper Bonus Pick! You may also include a 2nd pick for the 1st round, just in case the Kings do some draft day dealing (whether they add a 2nd pick or trade down). If the Kings land another pick and select that player, you get credit. This does not count as a "back up" pick at #12. It only counts if this player is selected somewhere else in the 1st round.
- In case of a tie, the correct selection of the first 1st round pick(s) will be the tie breaker. The 2nd tie breaker will be who posted their selections first.
- One entry per person. Once you have entered you may not change your picks. The advantage to entering early is the tie breaker edge, while the advantage of waiting is any extra bit of news that you may pick up between now and Thursday.
- Entry deadline is this Thursday, June 26th, high noon PST.
It's Sunday. What better time to ask yourself, "What would Geoffsus do?"
Good luck!

My picks
I’m not eligible for the t-shirt here (just the bragging rights), so my picks don’t count in the competition. But I thought that I would submit them as sort of a template.
I’ll take Darrell Arthur as our 1st round pick, and Pat Calathes and Goran Dragic as our 2nd round picks. My bonus 1st round pick is Roy Hibbert.

My ridiculous guesses
Disclaimer: I am totally clueless about who the Kings should select and if I get any right, it’s out of pure luck.
First round pick: DJ Augustin
Bonus pic: Roy Hibbert
Second round picks: Goran Dragic, Pat Calathes

Kings Picks
I like Anthony Randolph to be pick 12th.
Mike Taylor and Bill Walker as our 2nd round pick.
In the case we get a 2nd 1st rounder, I think we take Roy Hibbert.
If we get a 1st round pick… we will probably find that out after July 1st because of Artest early termination clause.

You bring up a good point
But for our purposes the t-shirt will be awarded based on picks that we know to be ours on draft night.

"Initial" Draft
Someone needs to select D.J. Augustin, D.J. White, J.R. Giddens and J.J. Hickson.

Hey
Btw… can anyone fill out a Kings.com ballot for me? I want to enter for the Kings jersey but I don’t live within 75 miles of Sacramento. I live more like East Coast in Maryland.

Piiicks (yikes)
1st I like Anthony Randolph to be pick 12th.
2nd Mike Taylor
2nd Pat Calathes
Bonus 1st hmmm – Ajinca
I’d even consider him if Randolph and Alexander were gone. A reach, I know but maybe that TJ Ford and Toronto’s #17 are in play)
Speights would be another option for bonus 1st but I’ll stick with Ajinca . . . I guess.
I don’t know why but i just have a bad feeling about DArthur.

My Guesses
Kings will pick (my official SR pix):
1st round – Darrell Arthur
Bonus 1st – Bill Walker
2nd round – JR Giddens
2nd round – Joey Dorsey
For fun, If I were forced to pick for the Kings:
1st round – Marreese Speights (possible future PF stud)
Bonus 1st – Bill Walker (possible future SF stud)
2nd round – Richard Hendrix (if he’s not there, then I would take Omer Asik)
2nd round – George Hill (possible solid PG backup). If Hill is not on the board then I would shock the world and take Sean Singletary
OK, how many of you are glad I am not picking?? lol
He can shoot, and he looks great in a suit. Hey, everybody - It's REGGIE TIME!

singletary?
I think if Singletary gets an invite to a summer camp the world will be shocked….(waiting for Qincy Douby to call him and let him know people are talking about him on str)...

HAHA
Don’t be too shocked. Remember, Mustafa Shakur got an invite last year and Singletary is basically the same as Mustafa except a MUCH better shooter/scorer.

Singletary!
He is moving up in all the drafts. He started off as going undrafted a couple weeks ago and now is slated to go early in the second round on many mocks and even in the late first round on a couple

My Guess
1st round = Darrell Arthur
Bonus = Ryan Anderson
2nd round = Mario Chalmers, Courtney Lee

My picks (mostly just for bragging rights and sheer boredom)
1st round pick – Anthony Randolph. I believe he’s going to drop down in the draft and the Kings surely will need to pick him up.
Bonus Pick – I’m just going to go out on a limb here and say Joe Alexander falls to 15 and the Kings trade for him after Artest opts in. The teams that need instant help are the Suns, Denver, and the Spurs, due to aging players. However, I don’t think that the Spurs would want part in any sort of blockbuster deal. (they never have) So, I’m thinking the Suns would want to load up on a veteran player or 2, since they obviously want a championship badly.
2nd round picks – Joey Dorsey and Goran Dragic. Dorsey would provide solid defense off the bench and Dragic would be the best PG available on the board, since he has a lot of upside.

Just thinking of the line-up makes me drool
PG – Beno / Dragic / Salmons
SG – Martin / Garcia / Salmons
SF – Alexander / Garcia / Salmons
PF – Randolph / Moore / Miller
C – Hawes / Miller / Moore
The eventual line-up of Beno, Martin, Alexander, Randolph and Hawes would be insanely athletic, like a ball of fire running up and down the court.

PG – Beno / Salmons / Dragic
SG – Martin / Garcia / Salmons
SF – Alexander / Garcia / Salmons
PF – Randolph / Dorsey / Miller

Those were both of my second rounders, and you posted first . . . good thing (for me) the first tie-breaker is 1st Round Pick!
I’m hoping for Randolph, but picking Speights here because, well too many people have picked Randolph, ok?

also I have a feeling is Chi takes Rose then you will see Brad Miller in a Chicago uni next season and a birdy named Kirk playing with royalty. I think we jump back into the 1st round through a trade with Toronto/Pheonix where we also get Barbosa.

Wow
How does BMiller get to Chicago? Fow who? I also don’t think that Heinrick is a ‘push the ball’ PG our guys want. He’s a halfcourt guy. I do think there ‘may’ be some BMiller interst out there though.

Answered your own question
Miller ($11.375M) for Hinrich ($10M) works under the cap. I’m not saying it would happen, but that’s how it was proposed in the grandparent-post.

$10 Mil for Heinrich!!
Yikes – way too much for him i think. He’s got a long term contract as well – doesn’t he? (just checked, four years left at 10.5, 9.5, 9.0 & 8 mil) Thats a lot of commitment to someone another team doesn’t think is the answer. I’d rather give it to artest.

BMiller - Orlando
I could see him doing well next to DHoward in Orlando. A nice fit I think. he gets them some rebounds, some distribution and counterbalances Howards complete inability to shoot past eight feet.
[disclaimer] haven’t even thought about how that works but would include orlando’s pick.

by lietothegirls on Jun 23, 2008 12:13 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Good fit (Miller), bad fit (trade partner)
Orlando has been mentioned before as a good place for Miller, unfortunately they don’t really have anything to offer salary-wise (their only two big contracts are Lewis & Howard).
Any deal would likely have to start with Turkoglu coming home to Sac, and filling out with Tony Battie, Jameer Nelson (not likley), Brian Cook, or Kieth Bogans (expiring). Anyone other than that (including their pick after it becomes a salaried player and not a zero-value throw-in) would require a 3-for-Miller deal which wouldn’t make a ton of sense for the Kings roster (unless they were all useful/high-potential players – Hedo, JJ & Player #22 would be fantastic value, but far more than they’d pay for Miller in my opinion).

Sounds right
They’d have to pull one of those ‘retired’ players out of thier hats or something.
